    Have a few videos to catch up on but am loving that you are doing this series! Binge watching now! Can you please share the name/make/model of the covered outdoor stove? I didn’t see it in your links. Also, how are you storing the raw meat, milk for coffee, eggs and other perishables? Can you share tips on the cooking side like my question above, any foods you prepared from home in advance, eco ways for cleaning up and disposing of food waste and washing water etc? Thank you! Oh! Also, the larger tent in this video, name/brand/model please? You mentioned in a later video (it was the first I watched then wanted to watch the full playlist 😂!) that the big tent “ripped”. Considering this, would you still recommend that larger tent?

      Hi! Thanks for binge watching our videos😊❤️ We've had so much fun filming them and we're glad we somehow get our enthusiasm across to our audience😊
      We got the grill from Costco. Here is a link for more accurate details www.costco.ca/nexgrill-cast-aluminum-table-top-propane-gas-grill.product.100709987.html
      The got the tent second hand but it's a walmart brand: www.walmart.ca/en/ip/ozark-trail-6-person-instant-cabin-tent/6000202351524 Honestly it's still a pretty good summer tent. We love how easy it is to set up and pack away. We choose the dark rest version so the light doesn't get in when we're still sleeping 😊
      We store our food on a small cooler with ice since we just do overnights but you might need something more if you're going longer.😊

You two are so adorable and your enthusiasm and the way you laugh when things go wrong, instead of showing frustration) is infectious! In a good way 😂, I guess these days that phrase is not so good 😬 😆. I hope you plan on doing more! I live in Ontario and wayyy back in the days my best friend and I did a week long camp hike through the Bruce trail over on Manitoulin Island. She is experienced so I just got to enjoy the journey but as I was watching your series I actually was on Amazon creating a 🏕 wishlist lol! During our week we set up camp one night in pitch dark! It was a no light camp site so we couldn’t even use the car lights lol! We also had another night on the sand and it was windy but the stakes won’t hold in sand 😆, another night was on a cliff over look so we slept on huge boulders flatted but uneven and again no place to stake the tent. Definitely got full exposure and it was sleeping bags on the ground every night 😆. Look forward to more videos 🤞🏽🙏🏽🏕💚

    The first camping is always a fun experience!😆👍
    My way to keep warm is, from ground up: get rid of big stones where the tent will be, heavy duty tarp, tent, (inside tent) a thermal camp mat which really plays a trick, a thick picnic blanket which is waterproof at bottom and my family uses in summer, self-inflatable mattress which has high insulation R value and not the ones with air blowing in, one sleeping bag for each person, (outside) a tarp hang over the tent to prevent rain.
    During sleep: you can wear wool sock (Costco) and fleece hat to keep warm. The sleeping bags which have head rest area can tighten the edge to keep head cozy.

  • @DaveAlton
    @DaveAlton Před 3 lety +2

    So glad you survived! I’m also glad you decided to go front-country before back-country. I’ve been camping in BC many times growing up in various forms through scouts, cadets, and just fun camping with family or friends. You definitely made the right choice to go front-country first. You’ll learn the hard way what you used and didn’t use, and what you can do without. With more experience, you’ll enjoy it more and more because you won’t have to work as hard to stay warm and dry. So here are some suggestions.
    First off, your sleeping bags seemed thin. Anything that fits that small is made for weight and size and not for warmth. That’s great for back-country, but as you experienced, they didn’t work well in April. When you do go back-country camping, try it first in the summer. The temperature will drop, but not to the same extreme. The other thing is your tent. Although it’s nice having a big tent, it can also be your downfall. Your combined body heat is going to be the biggest factor in the warmth of your tent. With tents that size, it’s going to be more difficult to keep warm. If you want to use thinner sleeping bags, you probably want a smaller tent. If you don’t want to invest in heavier sleeping bags, you may want to just get fleece liners that can go inside your thin sleeping bags. You’ll also want to wear most of your clothes to bed.
    Even with all that and a small tent, I’ve spent nights curled up in a ball on August nights. So here are some other tips to stay warm. Bring hand and foot warmers. They last for hours and I find that if I put them in my chest pockets of my jacket, they cool my entire body. But I also put them in my shoes and gloves because I like to guarantee my warmth. It’s like in Batman Begins, when Bruce falls in the cold water and is trying to warm himself by rubbing his hands together, Ducard says “rub your chest, your arms will take care of themselves.” Another trick is to get a large rock (about the size of a small bowling ball), and put it near the fire so it heats up slowly. You’ll want to find a dry one so it doesn’t explode (do your research to avoid this). Once it’s really warm, take it out of the fire, and wrap it in your towel. Take it to bed, and spoon it inside your sleeping bag. It should stay warm for hours.
    The other big thing is that you’ll want to get 2 tarps. Luckily it looked like you avoided heavy rain. I’ve only managed to avoid rain about twice in my entire experience camping, so don’t count on it next time. In BC, your tent’s fly isn’t going to hold up against the rain very well. On top of that, the ground is going to get wet and the water will come up from underneath the tent. To counter this, put one tarp over your tent and make sure it’s not flat, but slanted so the rain falls off one side and doesn’t pool in the center. Tie each of the corners to the trees surrounding your tent so it’s elevated above your tent. Anything that is wet and touches your tent will get your tent wet too. The second tarp will go under your tent. Lay it flat on the ground, then put your tent on top, then roll the corners up like it’s a pizza crust. Roll up the under-tarp so that the rolls (or crust) is now under your tent. That’ll prevent rain from falling on the ground tarp and streaming to where the tent is. make sure not to cover your fire area with the tarp that’s hanging from the trees.
    You were right to wear layers. You obviously did your research. As it gets warmer, you can remove layers, and as it gets cooler, you can put more on. I’d advise against jeans though, since once they get wet, they stay wet. One fun trick is to find an army surplus store that sells old army equipment. I have a thick wool sweater from one that I’ve never been cold in. Put a layer of cotton (a t-shirt) underneath that, and a waterproof layer outside it, and you’re golden.
    You discovered the fun way that small axes aren’t good for anything but removing small branches from logs. You can probably get by without an axe for most of your camping as long as you can find tinder and kindling to start your fire, and you bring or buy the firewood you had. If you want to get an axe, and feel really cool (or get those fun macho shots of you splitting it), check out a Muller style splitting axe. Axes that have those wedges on the sides will wedge apart your wood as you split it. The wedge gets narrower and narrower as it goes up to reduce friction. The end-result is that you can split wood like the wood you have with one stroke once you get the hang of it. It would look great in a lot of your video shots too.
    Well done on your first camping experience! I’m so glad you had fun! Every time you go again it’ll be easier and more fun because you won’t have to worry as much about staying warm and dry, and you’ll be able to focus more on experiencing the beauty of nature like you got to see!

    I love camping videos!!! My tip for front country camping (aka car camping): invest in a queen inflatable mattress. It offers better cushioning and insulation from the cold ground. There are also queen size sleeping bags so you can keep each other warm. You can also cook faster and safer with a camping stove instead of a backpacking stove. Before you go to bed you can boil some water and fill some bottles with hot water. Take the bottles to bed with you. And have some hot tea or liquor before bed so that you get warm. See you next video!
