This is the stuff I love to learn about! The behind the scenes stuff like helmets, suits, logistics for the teams including air travel, trucking, hotels, contingency plans for whatever may come up, what it takes to wrap a car etc. Just like I didn't know that there is a whole team back at the shop going over information and calling shots on race day until just recently. WOW!!! Interesting stuff. I couldn't care less about the movie stars at the race or what famous person is a team owner. I like the nuts and bolts of the sport. I love to listen to Steve Latarte call races because he can get technical.
Great video. I’ve painted a handful of helmets for friends so hearing all that goes into the high end paintwork and getting just the shell brings it to another level. What a dream job that would be.
great video. thanks Kenny and Greg for the insight. My chosen career was as a graphic designer / art director for the past 30+ years. I learned airbrush in college... never used it in my career but picked up the airbrush again during the pandemic and have been painting anything that doesn't run away. Helmets are by far my favorite medium... because they are super challenging. I've been following Off Axis and am always inspired. Originally from VA, and drive up 77 often to get home. would love to come tour the shop.

I always buy Shoei helmets. Yes they’re one of the most expensive brands, but the amount you pay for a helmet is the value you put on your head. Don’t be cheap when it comes to buying a helmet.

I have been wearing top of the line Arai helmets since 1984, and I am very happy with them.
Arais are very nice, but at their price point it's annoying that they don't come with DSAF shields standard.
Love the Mizzou helmet. I would like to get one of those for myself. And maybe a KC Chiefs design.

For driving HPDE track days we are required to have a current SNELL rated helmet. I use a Bell M4 full face and IIRC it was $400.00.
Those prices are great for how high quality those helmets are.

I actually think his helmets are a bargain in today’s prices of everything is stupidly expensive.

$2,000 is actually cheaper than what I thought they would be. A Aria motorcycle helmet is $1,000, but they ARE handmade in Japan. Their quality control is one of the best in the business, and they pull 1 out of every 10 helmets off the assembly line to quality check them. Shoei is another quality handmade in Japan helmet company that has helmets over the $1,000 price point.

When i was Younger I Did not wear a Helmet on My Harley. I found out The Law passed said you have to wear a DOT approved Helmet We Found out The DOT never had equipment to test helments They Tested 0 . So many Tickets came to Court in Atlanta Our Lawyer always Won One case that Broke the camel's Back was a Judge Got Mad He was Going To call The DOT after many Calls being Put on Hold The Judge Told The Officer I do not want to see another No Helment Ticket In My CourtRoom . It pays to Know Laws,Many people Paid Good Money it was another Money scam .

Them scrutinizing the weight of the paint is just ridiculous. Driver's water weight from day to day varies more than that paint ever would.

Big waste of money. I have never watched a race an ever remembered what a single helmet looked like.
It's mainly for photos and for the sponsors to use in their promos.
As a driver I can tell you the paint jobs usually have some personal meaning and with input from the driver to the Painter. We don’t give a single shit if a fan likes them or not. So no, not a waste of money.
