He's already admitted and accepted having a bit of narcissism (don't we all?). I don't think it offends his sensibilities. He's been becoming more and more honest since this style change and letting go of his former style/persona/facade?/defenses? and that takes an incredible amount of courage and humility. Some of the rest of your guys's exchange was a little over my head but that's just my 2 cents worth. I love this guy.

Just watched Father John Misty on SNL and have been watching and listening to as much as I can in one night and I am in love. Oh my god he is drop dead Gorgeous here. I know he probably cares nothing about that but I can listen to him talk for days, sing forever.
Now I love him as I love Thom Yorke.

Brilliant, really. The sardonic, dead-pan delivery just makes J Tillman all the more thrilling, in my book. You gotta love a guy who is so brilliant, yet seems utterly bored with himself and everything around him. Miss him in FFs, but I'm so glad he's taking chances and still making great music.
I really do enjoy the way he expresses himself. I find myself chuckling and thoroughly entertained by his charm. Great responses to the You Tube comments and critiques. ❤️

I was lucky to meet Josh at the DC's Black Cat performance this past year and I love FEAR FUN so much AND the whole live band performance, that I will be at ALL of your DC area shows in 2013 wearing my heart-shaped sunglasses...and bringing friends.

I loved listening to this. The fact people hide behind keyboards and screens writing mindless poetic dribble in response to videos is ironic to me. However to watch Father John Misty have his say and voice his opinion, priceless! Thanks for the morning grin!

@awwitshorace, You know what's a more pretentious word than critique? You guessed it, pretentious. You're correct in pointing out that most youtube comments don't really resemble a "critique" in the traditional sense of the word. However, seeing as how this little segment could only be seen as "humor" then I believe his use of the word critique is in this case isn't meant to be taken seriously. I mean, he's sitting here reading youtube comments about himself and responding, and you comment on him using the word "critique". Take a moment to analyze how ridiculous that is. Then think about said comment utilizing the word pretentious to describe the word critique. I want you to think about that.

I guess you misunderstood and totally missed the point of my reply to yours. That was no attack on you. Let me explain, it was specifically my agreement with your comment about him looking in the mirror while you'd be trying to have a conversation with him. My response to your message was a line from a song by Carly Simon called You're So Vain. Maybe you've never heard the song before or didn't recognize it but it's one of the first lines in the song and when I read your message, that's the first thought that came to my mind. I was trying to say to you that I get what you mean and that I agree with you base in this particular video of Josh. No, I have never met him and have no plans or desire to. I like a few of his songs but not all of them. I'm sure he's evolved like most artist do but I really don't follow his music that much. I knew of him from Fleet Foxes and like what they've done so I check out his stuff now and then. I don't understand why you had to go on the defense, I meant no harm, I was actually agreeing with you. I know sometime it's hard to convey what people really mean through text and messaging, but please don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Maybe ask about the meaning of a message before you just assume next time.

I've never heard this guys music before, this just came up on a playlist. I really don't like this guy. He is trying way too hard. I have no problems with someone being verbose but this dude needs to put down the thesaurus. Not everything needs to be a metaphor. If I ever hear his music I hope it sucks and validates my hatred of him.
