  • How to shoot an interview with just ONE camera - Being able to film an interview is a critical skill for both those interested in starting a videography business and content creators hoping to reach new audiences.
It's easy to get overwhelmed when getting started, as the thought of multiple cameras, angles and microphones prevents you from even taking the first step.
In this video, I discuss a simple one camera interview set-up, with three different camera angles, that will help you get started - even if you only have your phone to film with.
    We discuss:
    1) the rationale for incorporating the cinematic interview into your filmmaking tool kit
    2) the most important features when purchasing a new interview camera (e.g. type of autofocus)
    3) Why I use the cameras I use for interviews, including the canon c200 and eos r, as well as cheaper alternatives for those just getting started.
    4) different interview camera angles to consider, and their emotional impact
    5) the basics of audio, and two options for getting great sound on your subject.
Gear used in this video (NOT associate links - I don't benefit from you using them. Just for your information :) )

This How video was very well done: you demonstrate what you teach and show in real life what you are telling us. I enjoyed watching and learned some things at the same time. Thanks for sharing Micheal!

Love your content Michael! Very practical and insightful. I especially like when you used the diagrams!!! That imagery is very helpful to understand each technique for someone who is new to videography. Can't wait for your next video!!!!!

I know this is more work.....but you’ve got some pretty professional gear there, I would of thought you would also incorporate a two camera set up as well?

Haha that's awesome! Most people find the channel because of the dental content, but I'm always glad when people find it through some of my other eclectic videos! Where do you practice?

Hey Michael, I was watching this video because I am filming an interview with my father who is a doctor about our product DocWalks ortho insoles. I was only looking for advice on filming but oddly enough by the end I heard about your Health focused channel and what you do and I thought this is right on brand with our company. Would you be interested in potentially working together. Maybe we could co
-promote something or be a sponsor or even have you interview my dad about common body pains and the best way to prevent them. Let me know what you think!

Hi Michael, thanks for the informative video! I'm a dental student (headed to D2), and wanted to start recording my time in sim, and later with patients for review/learning. I wanted to know what camera system you use (cost associated), and if it'd actually be worthwhile. Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

Why the unnecessary and distracting background music? It spoils the video. No-one likes it. I’m off.
