  • This SCA tournament combat is from the Meridies Fall 2015 Crown Tourney finals between Count Adhemar de Rouen and Sir Barthelemy of Illyria.
    The winner of this best three-of-five bout will earn the right to become the next sovereign with their consort.
    This is a detailed video analysis of competitive medieval recreation combat without choreography. This uses the mobile app "Coach's Eye" to break down shot mechanics, movement, balance, power generation, etc. and provide commentary.
    Combat is full-speed, full power with rattan (wooden) weapons. Hands, wrists and legs from the knee-down are not valid targets, and grappling is limited. For more details on combat rules see www.sca.org
    Thanks very much to the creator of the review video, originally available here: • Ansteorra Crown 1993 F...

    Just for clarification, that was the king at the time, me, who told Sir Barthelemy not to take the shot. From my vantage point I saw the shot strike as the flat of the blade. Barthelemy is an extremely honorable fighter, and not seeing the shot, called it good based upon it striking.

    I’m so happy to see one of these again! I find it amazingly valuable to see fights of this caliber broken down and slowed down! I often pick up many small things on top of what you go through!
    Thank-you!

    I've seen pretty much every video related to searches for sca heavy combat, and this is the first I'm seeing this fight. And, if memory serves, that goes for a couple other ones you've done. I find these videos invaluable, as my current life situation doesn't really offer me the time to get out to practices, and these make my pell training soooooo much more effective.

    Great breakdown, and yes Adhemar used an extremely light shaved rattan sword. He makes up for some hitting force loss with good rotational technique to generate force, allowing his resulting speed to be a killer.

    Hey Avery, I love your videos, so it's a "please keep making them!" vote from me :)
    It's a combination of a lovely speaking voice, a good technical breakdown, and just the right level of presenting plausible explanations for stuff that looks a bit iffy on film.
    The leg shot from Adhemar looks like a straight shot (that turned into a bit of a slap with the flat - I know the same thing happens to me) to me, not a wrap - certainly that is how it settles, knuckles in rather than knuckles out.

    - Are you going to evaluate just top tier fighters, do you think you might analyze fighters who have room for improvement? I'd love to hear what you think of my fighting.

    • @AveryCloseCall
      @AveryCloseCall  Před 4 lety +1

      So long as the video is good for analysis, the fights are clean, and it'd be interesting for other fighters besides the ones analysed, I'll look at anyone. I've got some analyses of newer fighters up. However, I don't tend to do personal analyses if it won't be of interest to a wider group as well.
