      A rough estimate not including things, he didn’t give an actual number to. So we are going to pretend the jet hasn’t gotten a flat tire, windows haven’t broken yet and no de-icing needed. The crew stays at your home or condo when you land somewhere, because I don’t how much a ladling, food and transportation would cost or the cost of repositioning to send the crew home and this isn’t including a sudden emergency maintenance issue. I also did just the most expensive jet the golfstream, would cost approximately $2,090,250.00 per year to maintain and fly 200 hours per year. That’s including the hanger fee of $81,000 per year and the $144,000.00 per year for LAX hanger fees, since he goes from LAX to London, I’m going to assume he lives in London. His accent gave him away. Another rough guess, it would be about $2.5 million per year to fly 200 hours. That would include crew benefits like lodging, food and transportation, windows and other mechanical fixes that came up etc. it’s always better to over estimate, then under estimate and you can’t afford the expense anymore. So if tomorrow you won the lottery and after taxes you had $200 million to splurge on stuff. You could buy and fly your plane for the next 20 years, and still have $80 million to purchase a nice home. You could also charter your plane when it’s not being used. There’s companies that you can call that do that. So you don’t need to be a billionaire, otherwise movie stars wouldn’t be able to afford one. There’s no movie star that’s got billions except I believe Oprah is the only one. The rest hover around
      600 million or less.

    Being a pilot, I've actually given this a lot of thought. If I win the PowerBall or MegaMillions, I do not want to manage fixed and operating costs at all.
    I'd charter based on trip distance, cargo considerations, and runway length of destination airport. All I want to do is ride...

    • @marcoscasado8698
      @marcoscasado8698 Před 10 měsíci

      Wouldn't it be better to buy is. And rent it out whenever not in use? That could probably be an investment right?

    • @RudeBwoii
      @RudeBwoii Před 5 měsíci

      @@sadekkafesh6490 Landing fees, tarmac fees, fuel bill per flight, hanger fees, etc, all still apply when renting it out. I imagine that's why chartering a plane is so expensive, and a huge portion of the charter fee goes into offsetting the fees associated with such use.
      However, after subtracting all those fees associated with renting out your plane, your profit is essentially peanuts. ~13k charter fee on a G650 minus all those fees will probably net you at most $3-6k per charter.
      As someone who bought a G650 for $65.5 mil, are you really missing $5k profit per weekend? Not to mention, the jet is halfway to its destination when an emergency crops up, and now you have to charter a ride yourself.
      Obviously, it doesn't take a whole weekend to fly from NA to EU or SEA. So you can run a couple flights in that one weekend, or even the ENTIRE week. This obviously becomes a business at this point and nets you $5k per charter. With proper efficiency and marketing, might sum up to around $70k per week (2 charters per day), or as much as $105k.
      But that runs the crew ragged, and doesn't change the fact that the more frequently the plane is used, the more likely something will happen.
      Probability is a thing.
      One might argue "that's why insurance exist". But it doesn't change the fact that it's a huge hassle to go through when turning a private pleasure into a business.
      You're better off just keeping it private (as the name suggests "Private Jet"), and flying out whenever you feel like.

    I agree. That $1.6 million is very low for annual cost for a G650. I work in the maintenance side of aviation and I've always heard you need to budget about 10-15% of the purchase price annually. Not the used price, but the price of the plane when it was new. That could very quite a bit depending on how much the plane is flying due to fuel cost and the added maintenance.

    I think sharing a flight on a private jet is the best way! You don't own it and still get to fly to your desired location at a much cheaper cost. And it beats flying first class. It will cost you 43% less than flying alone. It is usually 2.5 to 3.75 times the price of first class depending on your destination. Safe travels.

      Not even close, if you netted 100 million in the lottery you could easily own a private jet. This video mentions the gulf stream 650, most private jet owners would have something smaller to suit their needs. You could own an older Learjet, a citation, even a challenger or PC 24 at a much lower cost. With 100million, or even 75-80 with taxes per month you’d be making around 400k with investments. A jet ownership would be about 45-70k per month depending on factors. Also you could easily offset costs by chartering the plane when you’re not using it.

They landed, taxied up to the hangar, got out and sorted out everything with the facility manager for a bit. They then got back into *another 7X* and flew off. It’ll be cheaper flying first class. This video didn’t account for depreciation of the airplane. A brand new Gulfstream G650 depreciation schedule is around $2 million per year. After 10 years you lost $20 million from depreciation alone. Add in all the costs of ownership, you could spend around $50 to $60 million over 10 years. If 5 people are traveling first class 3 times a month they would rack up a lot of miles for free first class tickets.

      I have worked in the private charter industry for over 10 years now, you are incorrect.
      It is absolutely cheaper to fly commercial than owning your own jet.
      The resell value of airplanes are a joke. A G4SP brand new back in the day was about $40 Million, now days you can buy a used one with decent hours on it for around $2 Million. They are not that old.
      No aircraft owner buys a jet because its saves them money, it is the convenience factor of flying when you want and where you want, it is just you and who ever you bring along, and its private. No TSA screening, show up to the airport on your own time, go to airports that commercial flights can't go into. etc.
      ADS-B In/Out upgrades (which are required since Jan 1 of this year) easily costs into the $100,000 + range, even for small prop planes your looking at $20-30K for the upgrade.
