Ms. Coleman is an actor's actor. She puts in the work, grounds herself and gives remarkably truthful performances. AND she keeps getting better! Watching her grow from Doctor Who, to Victoria, The Cry and now, the Serpent into a singular artist is a real privilege. I can't wait to see what she accomplished next. Bravo.

This interview was really insightful- you can see how much thought Jenna put in to bringing this character to life. I watched the show over the course of a week- it was captivating.
For those commenting on her accent, I’d point out that this is a British production and that 99% of their intended audience wouldn’t be able to discern an accurate Quebec accent from a dodgy one. So, whilst they’d want to do their best, I doubt her being an English access gave them a moments pause. She brought a lot of publicity to it as she’s a critically acclaimed, well known actress. I think she did a fantastic job!

The art of filmmaking is unimaginably complex and depends so much on the effort of so many to act in concert to produce a work of art such as The Serpent.

Like M T said, it was terrible. Almost insulting. She doesn't have that specific Québec accent. How do I know this, well, I'm a Quebecer myself. However, even though most people think I'm French because I have what I call an international accent, I do know what the Québec French sounds like, I grew up surrounded by it. And Jenna... well... She sounds just like any anglo-saxon person trying to speak French. Takes time to master an accent. It would have been better to cast a quebecer actress. I mean, it's not like we don't have great bilingual talents here. I think Caroline Dhavenas of "Hannibal" fame could have been a great replacement!

Yet because you’re not French, nobody would tell you that you’re unforgiving I’m sure;) Also just to be clear, Im not talking about how she makes the French accent when she speaks English, Im talking about the scenes when she is supposed to speak French.

Actually her accent was a bit problematic (speaking as a french person). She has a very thick british accent when she speaks french, and needs subtitles to be understood. Her french was very good grammatically, but really nothing to do with Canadian way of speaking, which is how they characterize her. I think every french-speaking person was really confused by this :)

Her accent was terrible she didn't sound like a French speaker. Plus she was supposed to sound like a Québécoise

I guess that the key audience is english-speaking and if that is your case then the quality of her french is irrelevent. As a French-Canadian, I can tell you that her french is incomprehensible and that I had to read the subtitles to understand what she was saying. Even the off-screen voice of her mother was completely detached from anything Québécois. She did a wonderful acting job and I totallly got into the show as well as her performance but the french was a disappointment.

Don’t think she is a good actress at all, no facial expressions, no emotions, she is cold as ice.

Maybe it is her acting in this serie ? I don't know, but I thought it was her work in portraying Marie-Andrée and Monique. She had a lot of facial expressions in Doctor Who. And a lot of emotions in The Cry. I don't know, simply my point of view.

Really dude!? Don't you think you have to be cold and restrained when you're drugging people and scaming them all day long? She was playing a a real life person who didn't have a lot of personnality

Jenna's extremely versatile and when she's playing an expressive character, she nails it. Just watch her in Doctor Who. She can say more with her facial expressions than most actresses can with their entire bodies. Monique was SUPPOSED to be a cold person and therefore less expressive because she's the lover of a serial killer.
