Back in the day i beat a man with just a maxx c in atk because we bricked HARD and could only make a few exchanges before the field was just empty he was playing a trap heavy satknight deck and i was playing early ritual beast
Nah I'm playing Ursarctics. I kept drawing bricks and the other guy wouldn't Special Summon. Big Dipper sitting on 6 counters while Royal Decree has IO turned off, but I'm still paying child support. Big sad.
Had a similar duel yesterday. Opponent played True Draco. Opened with Kaiser Collosseum, Monarch's Erupt, Diagram, Dinomight Knight and disparitied into IO as well as controlling a True Draco Apocalypse. I got around him by baiting the IO with Salvage (playing Plunder Patrolls) and just summoning Moerk 2500 DEF to stall him out. Every time he got around my Moerk I revived it with Booty so in the end he died to IO's cost

I baited out the IO by dropping the Fusion Spell, attempting to crash the Fusion monster and then Salvage to get my hand back which they fell for so witb the IO the Kaiser Collosseum was no longer a problem and their biggest body had 2.5k so I just Xyz summoned Moerk and stalled
If you already malding not to draw zoo monsters in a zoodiac deck, imagine how bad it is to not draw a single kids or the field spell in a prank kids deck

This is exactly what happened to me a few days ago. Eldlich with IO, Skill drain, and Gozen against my Tri-Zoo. He couldn't put set 1 pass and lost to his own IO. It turns out that sometimes Judgement just makes you lose faster

I summon two arc odd-eyes and odd-eyes pendulum so I bring them down to 100 LP with my attacks combined. I go into MP2 and summon red-eyes metal flare, then I end my turn. It's their turn, they draw and immediately activate feather duster

I had some kind of "Fusioned" situation: I was playing Zoo and my opponent Numeron Otk. I've set IO first turn and he was unable too use field spell. But I've not drawn into any Zoo 4 turns in the raw and died to IO
I thought because of how IO was worded that it destroys itself if you can’t pay the cost, as opposed to something like Destructive Draw, which specifically mentions that it will kill you if you can’t pay the LP
I use Unchain and met a Eldlich player and they use Imperial Order. I can destroy it but I choose not and I was right. They attempt to activate one of their "spell" and they fail. Man I was so confused like "wtf bro???"

IO requires that you pay 700 life points, you cannot pay more life points than you have, but you can pay the exact amount you have, at 600 life points you cannot pay 700, so the card destroys itself since you cannot fulfil its maintanence cost, but at 700 lp, you can pay 700, and fulfil the cost by killing yourself.
So IO has something called a maintenance cost. Its a type of classification that cannot be negated, the Koa’ki Archetype is another example of this cost. When able, You must pay the cost or the card is destroyed. When IO got errated, the maintenance cost got changed to be manditory, not optional like it was pre errata. So so long as you have at least 700 lp you are forced to pay the cost. Even at 700 LP you must pay the cost and as you saw, it can lose you games. Now im not a judge so Im not 100% certain on the accuracy of this part, but the Maintenance costs I do believe must be paid as the first step, so say you had HSD on your opponents SP. Before you could even be allowed to activate HSD to destroy IO you’d be paying the 700 LP cost. Again not 100% certain on that aspect of how these type of costs work, but the long story short is. These costs cant be negated, they must be paid or destroyed, and IO forces you to Pay if you’re able to

In the OCG ONLY (and in master duel, since it follows OCG rules), if you have the exact LP to pay a cost, you can/must play it. This is NOT the case in the TCG.
Stop playing staples and only play cards in your archetype and you’ll always have zoo cards to play 4head. That’s how i got to plat 1 by using pure windwitch

You just answered your own question. IO destroys itself when you are UNDER 700. If you are at 700 exactly, you can (and therefore must) pay the cost.
