💖Robert Long, the original singer, was openly gay by the time this song was published (1977). There wasn't much acceptance for the community. In almost all of his songs, he tried to put some 'gayness', as a (subtle) fighting for tolerance. The sentence "Where there are more people like me" had a double layer: People who were heartbroken ánd People who were "like him" (gay). (Gays were often referred to as "like them", to not have to pronounce the "gay"word.) So yes, it encourages you to be brave/tough if you're heartbroken, but also in other situations such as being hurt or feeling sad. It's okay to be sad. There are more people "like you" everywhere...

Such a shame we don't hear that much by Anita Meyer anymore. It's ALWAYS the same song on the radio. I used to go her performances with a friend of mine and she knew us and invited us in her dressing room several times. She's very friendly and we really had a great time. Yeah, real shame, such a great voice. I think the fact it hits you because she really is a very friendly sweet woman. She means it.

Anita Meyer is one of the grand ole ladies of Dutch music. Singing a song of one of Dutch best songwriters, Robert Long. I didn't know tis cover btw.... goosebumps. And I so love you adopted Dutch music. I know all of these songs, but listening to a non-Dutch person loving the music.... awesome!
When you understand dutch some of these songs are so emotional . even when you are in a happy state of mind you can cry for the people how aren't and can relate to this situation. So beautiful. Greets jacco

I think the reason why this program is so great is often people look up to recording artists and they seem to always have a mask on to hide their emotions. Because "it's the song what must have emotion, not the singer" as I heard someone say a while ago. Seeing even they can break because of the shit in their lives, that's the same shit in our lives, make them human again. I can't wait till the next season.
Brace lived a few houses away from me, its a really nice guy who had some problems but no mentor and made a few mistakes, but its a great person at heart and today 12years later its a great guy, the person we all knew he would be with the right people around him

You are so right, young people need good role models. My youngest son was 14 when his dad passed away. And as much as I tried being mom and dad at the same time. That doesn’t work. Young boys need their dad’s. Or a close male relative as a role model. I watched him struggle and it took him a long time to figure himself out. He is 32 now and absolutely amazing. But as a parent you always feel guilty about you child’s struggle. And we definitely put on our brave faces to get through it.

Robert Long is someone I grew up with. My mother always played his song. He was gay and being proud being gay. There are so many of his songs so pure and full of daily emotions that it is impossible not to cry. Unfortunately everybody has to go sometime and we lost another beautiful soul.
A recommendation of this same show but from Maan, the girl that's crying through this performance. It's Maan with Nessun Dorma, really a powerful performance.

Beautiful song and wonderful singer. If you like this kind of music, you really need to listen to: Samen zijn from singer Willeke Alberti. Our son died in 2008 at the age of six. We played that song at his funeral. It's the most beautiful song ever written.
