- The Johnsons were the first Houston family selected by the show, who brought them from a 720-square-foot home with just two bedrooms and one bathroom (and no air conditioning) to serve the couple and their five daughters, to a 4,500-square-foot Spanish-style home complete with a schoolroom and office space to run their business from. It's got plenty of beds and bathrooms, too.

I watched some of these episodes. Then I watched as a woman and her kids were evicted from their extreme makeover house because her taxes were raised (property) and she couldn’t afford to pay them. So her and her children were thrown out with only some of their belongings. These people need to know that improvements mean higher taxes. I found this so appalling. A need for the family turned into more if a stressful situation. These are people in NEED. Just disgusted me.
Yep, they actually had aftercare... all may not have followed the protocol. It's still a wonderful blessing 12 years later.
This is the part they dont tell you about. If the family was already struggling to keep a shack together, what makes them think they can afford to keep up with those freaking property taxes! This is so freaking sad! America spends trillions taking care of everyone else but our own. That makes me cry!! I pray that the Johnson family doesn't go through getting kicked out!!
They set up after care funding to maintain these costs and sometimes even pay off the mortgages. If the families didn’t use the funds as planned then thats on them

I believe I noticed that there is a spiral staircase in that house.
Personally I worked on this house (couple night shifts) when it was built back 2010. it's been on the market for the last 2 months for 720k. About 1k per month in taxes. I am strongly against this type of built-outs. Instead of building a basic affordable home they over built/give. (They've could of help 5 people Instead of 1).
90% of people loose their home in couple of years in this magnitude of help.

They Need Solar Panels , A Wind TURBINE , Fundraising/Donations To Mortgage , Etc. To Help Them Afford This Home In The Years To Come . Due To Their Rise In Cost Of Utilities , Property Taxes , And Insurance , Up Keep, Etc .
Actually, there was after care, but I requested that the house be built green. We have solar and recycled blue jean insulation that has a greater Rvalue than insulations available in 2010. Twelve years later, we are still in the home and continuing to pay it forward

The gentleman is a pharmacist or a pharmacy technologist which means he may not even be a pharmacist. Will this family be able to afford the property taxes? The increase in water, the increase Due to the air conditioner! There’s a lot of money flowing out of that house and with the mortgage and higher taxes, food and clothing for the children plus saving for their college for five children! Did the inheritance already have that mortgage paid off?
