Theres no confusing Guru's voice. RIP to a legend.
tbh once i couldn't tell if it was Guru or Dave east on a track...wish i could recall d track. But i think it was d joint Premier put out not too long ago with a video to go with it. Like i didnt hear it or watch it from d beginning and bc its new i was like "oh a new Dave East".
Guru is one of the best lyricists of all time, and Premier doesn't know how to make a bad beat.
Thank you! So many idiots claiming he’s too boring and monotonous. They think lyricism is Eminem on rap god or godzilla. They don’t understand the many things that make a lyricist or a timeless track. Guru had some of the nicest flows ever. And he was always ahead of the times.
Facts
@@lethalassassin1754 I mean, Eminem *is* essentially synonymous with lyricism and he's one of the greatest to ever do it, but those two examples are radio hits and far from his best work. It's not like his endless catalog only consists of songs like Rap God.
@@vn5774 yup

Gang Starr - Moment Of Truth
Yess
One of the realest songs. Gotta do it dawg
Yeah
100%
All time song right there. Do it. 🙏
The sad part is that he was talking about back then, but it's still going on.
100%
Yes and it’s worse 😣😣😣
EXACTLY
As another great artist said, the game ain’t changed just the name of the players
Exactly, which makes it even more sad cuz it was hella hard to get by back then even as a young black male trying to become something in life. Good thing they succeeded 💯🙏🏽
About 20 years ago I had to drive 3 hours out of state and I had this song on repeat the whole ride
"just like the sea shore I'm calm AND wild /with my monotone style..." one of my favorite lines ever....
Bruuh
And its literally HIM.. What he says is real but he doesn't to shout or scream to get his point across
Absolutely love GURU🔥
One the illest DJ Premier beats... so chilled out and smooth w/ Guru's rhymes man i could literally put my headphones on and just zone the fuck out..
My first few years being a Hip Hop head I was all about Pac and Biggie. As great as they are, as time passes I now listen to more Gangstarr, Wu-Tang, and Mobb Deep. These groups grow on you over time, takes a while to appreciate their greatness.
Never could stand West Coast rap. Always thought Tupac, Snoop, Dr. Dre were unlistenable, boring, with lame grooves.
@@hazepheno925 well that is definitely an unpopular opinion.
@@hazepheno925 maybe it's just not your type of sauce my dude. I think they're all amazing.
@@hazepheno925 people give them too much hype tbh , my opinion east coast over west , mobb deep just got the flow MF DOOM etc. makes you actually bob your head
Kool G Rap and Scarface are top 5 IMO
Dj Premier is the goat producer, unmatched production catalog
Gang Starr - You Know My Steez
🔥🔥🔥🔥
back in the mid 90s when i was in high s hood the hip hop heads would discuss how the music industry would change and we all predicted how it is now
The guru;s voice was an instrument in its self. Check out "mostly the vioce" "just to get a rep"
80's and 90's rap was the best it ever got sadly
Fact
Respect this young man for doing this
Above The Cloud feat Inspectah Deck is fire too
That was one of Inspectah Deck's best verses, makes me wish he did more work with DJ Premier
Moment of truth, above the clouds, you know my steez
Guru and Premo always on point. You have to to do "Above the Clouds" at some point. That shit will blow your mind.
And Dwyck
Gifted unlimited rhyme universal. Rest in power hip hop misses you
Guru is one of the most lyrically dense MC’s of all time and he doesn’t get ANY of the respect he’s due 🤦🏾♂️. RIP Guru
Guru was lyrical, but not to a point that it was over your head. He was smooth Street hip-hop, and there was always a message in his songs
God Bless u youngman...u ain't just woke..u doin the work
One of my all time favorite Premier beats and Guru ripped it apart. I was just grinning waiting for you to hear that “monotone style” line.✌🏾
Jeru The Damaja “Come Clean”
(Another classic track by DJ Premier)
The legendary Gang Starr. One the greatest hip hop groups of all time! R.I.P. Guru.

I first heard the Guru and Gangstarr in 1990. Listen to “Step in the Arena”. It’s it painted such an incredible picture of that era.

Love this song and video. They rollin down Broadway in Brooklyn. Some of them stores they passing still there!
Bruh you nailed it. It's all about the mass appeal. And not just with music, with everything else too (social media etc.). That's why the shot on the beach in the winter is cool. He's kind of poking fun of that lifestyle. RIP Guru. Such a legend.

I was fortunate enough to meet Guru before he passed. Amazing dude
Also, again 😁, "gift of Gab-freedom from flowing" 🎁✌️
One of the coldest beats ever ❤
Pretty sure on Beyond Comprehension, he has a lyric that says “with my monotone style.” You nailed it lol.
Guru voice always been fiya 🔥🔥to carry a beat. DJ Premier name still rings bells today.
Whats funny afterthe 2nd verse you mentioned his monotone sound and he mentioned it in verse 3 lol. Great video lol
one of the greatest instrumentals in hip-hop history
The industry aint changed. That beat goes hard AF the hands on it took to create that? Home grown art
People are people...greed never changes. Glad you liked it!
The '90's paid respect to the roots through shout-outs and samples.
Some of my favorite Gang Starr songs: Moment of Truth, What I'm Here 4, You Know My Steez, Above The Clouds, Work, Manifest, Skills, Full Clip. Also check out GURU's Jazzmatazz albums from the 90s. He got live jazz musicians in the studio to record with him

I came across one of gurus albums in lilydale Victoria Australia in a local market a basic table with a cloth on it, it was all like lo fi jazz, dope af but it taken at a house party like 2 months later! Still regret it that was at least 6 years ago.
Love your reaction videos bro. You have an old soul !
Been waiting for this. React to anything off "Full Clip"
Not Gang Starr... but from the same classic era, but you should totally check out I Used To Love H.E.R. by Common. That song is an incredible and poetic story about, well... when you listen to it and the story being told above that amazing beat, the ending will blow your mind! :)
But digressing back to Gang Starr, Code Of The Streets is a classic!
This joint bumps in the ride too.
That's why they call him "King of Monotone"........ Nigga!
so true. we used to dance to this, if you can imagine.
Guru bragged about his monotone style. 🔥
More Gang Starr. Words I Manifest, Take It Personal, Just To Get A Rep, the list goes on and on...
Of my favorite groups ever.
Can we give some love to the og scratchin' on the turntables! Great beat and hook, DJ Premier. Great reaction.
There's a track where Guru calls himself the "King of Monotone".
First heard this track on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4. What a classic
The whole Daily Operation and Step In The Arena albums 🔥🔥🔥Guru drops knowledge on “2Deep”
You a son like elroy. One of my favorite lines ever.
This song always gives me Jetsons flashbacks. "Eep opp orc ah ah".

Gang Starr - Mostly the Voice
Banging this in the 88 maxima.. The cassettetape broke!! Wore it out😂😂😂😂
I'm so happy to see you young brothers taking a look at history, and how these rappers are able to be wack in there music and still get paid. Gangstarr and others back then did it for love not money and they stayed true to Hip Hop. Now no love for the music or craft because they don't know the history. I love seeing this...keep shining lil bro....also if you wanna hear a staple in hip hop listen to M.O.P 187
Gang Starr - My Advice 2 You
