- As #thefallguy is set to be yet another flop in the recent history of several #boxoffice flops, the better than expected opening for #kingdomoftheplanetoftheapes isn't nearly as good as some are saying when you remember its budget and especially when you compare it to the other films in the recent franchise #boxofficebreakdown #movietalk #planetoftheapes

Thoughts?
I think the Ascension was on Thursday. 😁
LOL agreed
Even though Girl Boss of the Planet of the Apes did better than expected, the combined total US box office was still below $100 million. We'll have to see if Girl Box Mad Max does any better.
Great Apes film.
Agree.
Hollywood is in a really bad spot. They ran over the goose that laid the golden egg, backed back over it again, then lit the goose on fire, and now wonders why the goose is not laying more eggs...and now blames the goose for the lack of golden eggs!
7 years between War of The Apes and Kingdom is way too long. That’s a major factor I think. People feel like they now have to rewatch 3 films to know what’s going on because the other films in the series are so far removed from their memory by now.
Top 5 Movies Domestic Opening of 2024 (so far)
1. Dune Part Two - $81M
2. Godzilla X Kong - $80M
3. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - $58M
4. Kung Fu Panda 4 - $57M
5. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire - $45M
Dune 2 and Planet of the Apes were both enjoyable movies for sci fi and fans of cinema
Crazy how 2001 ape movie is actually way more popular then the reboot lol
It looks like even Deadpool will flop at this point because Hollyweird poisoned the well so very much that most people just see a female character and immediately assume its a woke 💩fest.
2024 blockbusters are slowly becoming what 2015 was for blockbusters, after a banger of the previous year (2014/2023)
Idk Fall Guy imo was better than Kingdom of planet of the apes but both were still very good films
Man is the boxoffice going bleak for a long while. They need a Barbenheimer to save this year. Deadpool is rated R so it might be tough to just get a billion.
Joker made a billion
@@ryanlu5722stupid Deadpool ain't gonna be no Joker
Deadpool will get to $850 million at least because the other two did. For a billion it has to be a good movie. But one or two tentpole movies a year won't save the theaters. Industry wide changes within the movie studios are the only way to fix the box office. Executives and CEOs need to be fired, tarred, and feathered out for essentially creating their own competition with streaming.
Sonicfusa, there's your Barbenheimer.
@@Shrike1988 deadpool 3 will make more than joker ... guaranteed
Unfortunate. I found both The Fall Guy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes to be a solid start for the summer season in terms of quality.
In my Scott Steiner voice: You see the numbers don’t lie, and they spell disaster for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes!
This Movie has no Rewatchibility Value at all.
It's not going to sustain Itself.
These Apes aren't going to have Legs.
Top 3 Highest Grossing Universal Movies of 2024 (so far)
1. Kung Fu Panda 4 - $529M
2. The Fall Guy - $106M
3. Argylle - $96M
Well I mean....what is gonna do better? one of the earliest franchises that has been financially successful the whole time and had JD Salinger involved in narrative theme and development or......some random movie with a lame action guy and his uWu girl ? Planet of the Apes is a goated franchise. Always has been.
I doubt this movie will over perform, it seems like the movie will lose money with a 160 million production cost, not to mention marketing
We probably won't have another hit until July with Deadpool and Minions. Bad Boys could be a modest success if the budget is under 100 million.
I'm curious how people feel about films with overblown budgets that should on paper still perform well, such as Joker Folie a Deux and Gladiator 2.
@@poisonedyoyo Joker 2 has potential to do well, but I think Gladiator 2 is going to fail. Most agree that the original is good enough and the budget matches that of Dial of Destiny.
Fall Guy was a decent movie that had no clue what it wanted to be. A love story? An action film? A tribute to Stunt People? It tried to stuff it all in and add unfunny comedy.
I think it will do well on streaming.
We saw it 5/11. The theater was pretty full. Then I came home and watched Bullet Train.
I enjoyed the rollicking Fall Guy enough to go back to the theatre to see it a second time. I agree that it will do well on streaming - and probably PPV sales before that.
Well, it certainly is refreshing to come back here again after a long time.
Where ya been!!?
Eh dealing with some stuff family wise and trying to find a new job after I was cruelly fired over stupid rules but I’m doing good Odin. You?
Sad to hear that but glad youre back! Doing alright here!
Thank you for talking about Planet of the Apes, it hasn’t been getting a lot of traction from Geeks & Gamers, Nerdrotic, and the Critical Drinker communities, and I’ve been wanting to hear reviews or something!!!!!!
Yeah, it's tough without them making up our minds for us.
I think Apes will surpass 500 M
Most movies are trash now, and I’m not spending $100 plus to find out if the movie is the rare gem that isn’t trash that hates me.
This one is definitely Trash that Hates You.
I might of considered watching Planet of the Apes until I learned Disney was involved. Challengers is another one I won't see since it's Challenging to look at anyone who's attractive.
its good movie
@@JosephHandibode Too much bad will created by Disney for me to care.
@@perfectq7206youre just whiny
Good Choice, My Friend.
You've just saved yourself from watching another Brave and Stunning Girl Boss Outdo Every Poosified Male in a Movie Again.
@@lanalan4157 Interesting, I didn't know sheep bots had the ability to type. Planet of the Sheep 🤔.
I've liked the Monkey World reboot franchise and found it interesting where it came to explaining how it all happened.
This feels like a weak opening worldwide especially on a 160 milion budget for Apes. It better have so strong legs.
Godzilla x Kong was confirmed to be getting another movie this week along with Spin off shows and Season 2 of Monarch. So I guess Legendary and WB consider it a hit (would be cool if they would reveal how much they get from china compared to the average 25% studios usually get ).
So Far 20th Century Studios is the "Subordinate" that Where Disney Doesn't seem to interfere And Hopefully Alien Romulus wouldn't be affected by Disney's Interference.
I didn't realize Apes was Disney property. Had no plans on seeing it, but now I couldn't be convinced to see it.
I hate that Disney owns it as well but trust me they definitely let the team have the creativity like the last 3 films .
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is another overlong movie, 145 minutes. Hard pass.
I want my tightly paced, smartly structured 100 minutes entertainment back.
Where it’s rushed? Hell no.
@@achaudhari101 Rise of the Planet of the Apes: 105 minutes, perfectly paced.
A new film in a new trilogy doesn’t get the luxury of being somewhat rushed.
HOnestlyt hey have to spin it however they can but it if the fourth biggest domestic opening of the year because Kung Fu Panda 4 is in the mix. Furiosa should get some numbers, maybe Garfield the MOvie, then obviously Inside OUt 2 and Despicable Me 4 will guaranteed knock thisx thing further down the list.
But for overblown budgets, Joke Folie a Deux and Gladiator 2 are on their way, and those films were not made by Disney/
Oh how the mighty have fallen, Hollywood burned down their own Fanbase and then wonders where all the Fans are is just funny.
I wasn't interested in Aps, but i actually really enjoyed it. the simplicity of it, yet competent character work, it looked great and really made me think of some of the Conan stories.
Having never had any interest in any movie that contains the phrase "Planet of the Apes" in the title, I was inspired to check out the older movies currently showing at my local theater. I got all the way to something called ... "Frankenhooker". There are just no words.
Man give planet of the apes a chance stop being so uptight jfc
Heather Hunter is that one.
I am a fan of the original Planet of the Apes quadrilogy from the 1960s, and I enjoyed Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Despite this, I don't really feel a strong urge to go to the theater to see Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes because of its whopping 2-hour and 25-minute runtime. I'm not sure it will hold my attention for that long. I don't want to feel antsy in my seat during ten-minute action scenes two hours into the movie with no end in sight. Hollywood now treats this series as a major IP, aiming to make each movie a grand epic, but I think this type of film would be better off as a 90-minute movie. That's the maximum time I'm willing to sit through a theater movie that requires a considerable suspension of disbelief; I can't see myself watching an ape drama for over two hours
But you'll miss all those unnecessary scenes where the Apes still use Sign Language to talk to each other.
I think they developed Caesar as such an amazing character in the first 3 films, we aren’t as drawn to the new one as much. The new protagonist kind of sounds like a teenager and less masculine. If they bring back Andy Serkis it would be huge numbers IMO. Also, haven’t humans had their chance? C’mon man! I’d take Proximus over Mae! 😂
The protagonist is, in fact, a teenager
@@Jonathan-fu5hx😂
I think I liked The Fall Guy movie better than Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie.
Disney Taints anything they touch Planet of the apes the Caesar trilogy are awesome movies and to me Kingdom of the Planet of the apes not a very good movie boring I do not like the Not Nova being the first human to talk to ape and when she said her name and it wasn't Nova I'm done with it all the humans really drags this movie down. And the BS changes to the to the story look like a lot of scenes were taken from the original Planet of the apes +the actress is from Netflix's Witcher can't stand Her.👎👎👎👎
^I agree with everything you've said.
The good news: kingdom of the planet of the apes overpreformes, which is good for the movie, and godzilla x Kong is confirmed for a sequal wich isn't surprising considering how much money it made and it still has a chance to beat kong skull island box office now the bad news: fall guy flops
It's interesting that Adam Wingard makes Death NOte movie that people hate, yet folks are excited by his Godzilla movies, yet when news breaks out that the Cowboy Bebop writers are doing Scooy Doo for Netflix, people dont' even want to give it a chance. Yes, it'll probably be awful but at least see what they promote it with I'd say. Or the premise.
Kind of like how people can't just shoot down The Hunt For Gollum or War of the Rohirrim just because of Rings of Power.
@poisonedyoyo the Godzilla fanbase in general enjoys both sides of the franchise. The depressing, dark and serious and the fun over the top Godzilla movies. Its why the franchise has continued for this long.
Plus with a sequel to GxK now fully in developement along with Monarch season 2 and spin off shows. Legendary will own the space for a while in terms of making Godzilla content.
"Blessid Mothers day...." uh?
Where did that come from?
Why not "Happy Mothers Day"?
Wow. Never expected a comment like that when I clicked on to find out about the weekend box office.
Whatever.
Well, it might have something to do with the fact that today is Mother's Day. Just a guess, you know.
Editor's note: The addition of "Why not 'Happy Mother's Day" was a late edit.
Bro are you serious? Lol
@@OMBReviews
Just my 2 cents, Bro.
What is people’s issue with Disney ? It seems to immature to not go see a film just because it’s Disney. I think people need to start to grow up.
What is your problem with "demonic stuff" in movies like "Tarot"? It is just like Fantasy, so why the hate? (Btw: of course nobody goes in "Tarot", that movie screams "Don't go see me". But not because of the demons!)
Because it deals with the demonic which is real and shouldn’t be played with
But that’s the whole point of Fantasy is to show the bad things so that people don’t do it in real life.
@@OMBReviews Oh man! No, "the demonic" is not real! Really not! Trust me: superstition can ruin your life, so better get rid of it !
This isn't superstition. Best trick the devil ever played. I would encourage you to pick up some scripture!
@@OMBReviews Sure, nothing more convincing than texts written more than 1000 years before science, by authors we don't know and whose scources we can't trek! Yeah, that will help!
