A Mortgage IS a loan!!! Defaulting on a mortgage means you've defaulted on a loan. The homes are being foreclosed which means they are being repossessed by the banks who loaned Essien the defaulted mortgage.

If you actually look at it this is a smart move becuase the Essiens owe $2 million and they know they can't sell it at that $14mil so why not default on the loan and have the bank sell it for about $10mil on our behalf and they take their $2mil and we take $8mil and they probably purchased the house for $5mil.
