What did YOU ALL learn / hoping to learn on your hike!?
NEVER GIVE UP. Even if that means taking time off. If you want it, make it happen.
Yup!
Thanks for sharing your lessons learned Hollywood. I'm an older hiker now and always share with youth to take time & really enjoy the beauty of nature. It is a gift to have the health to hike. One you may not always have. Make the most of it. Appreciate your content. Best.....Bob V
Love that advice. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
I binged watch all your videos in three days. I couldn’t stop watching!! Thank you for taking me along!! I loved every moment!!
Hope to see you again in the future on another adventure!!
Truly appreciate that!! Thanks so much for watching!
Great info. I agree with your viewpoints.
One thing I've learnt in life is that change is constant. No fighting it.
Keep up the great work.
Love that, thanks for the comment! A fight you'll never win huh. Appreciate the support 🙂
I just finished watching your documentary on the AT. It was amazing and you did an amazing job with the video. You are truly an inspiration. Thank you so much. I wish you nothing but the best. 👍🙏👏😊✡️🕎
Thanks so much! Truly appreciate that. The best to you as well
A great video, Nick. I would love to see a video in which you talk about how to navigate the mental side of the hike - when a tough day arrives, or injury, problem, doubt - just how you tackled the mental game that is often front and center.
Excellent idea! I’ll be sure to make that video soon. Appreciate you watching
Hollywood, I love how your Thru-hike has, and has continued to enhance your life❣️❣️❣️😃
It blesses my heart to see you choosing to take all of the Trail’s gifts to you, however they came, and to make a difference for good-in your own dynamic way❣️❣️❣️❤️😎😅
I really think that is a huge takeaway from the AT, or any long-Trail Thru-hike❣️❤️
Aaaaand, finding the light from that chosen path, post Trail, however one comes to it,
can make all the difference in any struggles that may capture hikers in one’s post-Trail decompressing, and returning to life off Trail❣️❤️
The path you are choosing is maintaining and strengthening your Trail connection, and nurturing bonds to its community❣️😃😎 I’m happy to see this-I personally think those bonds are important❣️
Seeing your videos grants me a window to see that hikers can stay tapped into the multifaceted beauty of the Trail in the everyday, post-Trail life❣️❣️❣️Making the life-giving choices I see on your videos, will keep your Trail experience refreshed in you, and it’s joyous to see them overflow to all the lives you are touching.
The Trail is always making people think, and get creative, it constantly offers endless opportunities to be in the solution❣️❣️❣️These offerings are such great gifts, even if it may not have seemed like it, or felt like it, when it was all going down❣️Learning those skills is a prized possession, a cherished takeaway, and can help hikers thrive anywhere, under any circumstances.
Trail skills, wisdom learned, truly will serve and bless hikers anywhere, anytime, under any circumstances❣️😃
Keep those videos comin, hiker❣️❣️❣️😎🥰👍🏻👍🏻😃
God bless and keep you safe, wherever you are❣️❤️🥾🥾🥾
Marlene you are simply a treasure! Thank you for all your positivity, you spread light wherever you go. And you’re absolutely correct, the things we learn on trail aren’t apparent until way after, such is life huh. Appreciate your comments so very much!!!
@@PackAndSoul love you, hiker❣️😃
Hey Nick - thanks for the vids! Appreciated your advice, reviews, insights, and good vibes when I was prepping for my hike. Finished my AT 2023 July 20!
Yeahhhh amazing! Congrats. Hope it was one hell of an adventure
Anxiously awaiting # 4 of 7.
Coming soon, Sunday or Monday :-)
excellent points of view per usual
Thanks for watching
awesome info
Thanks for watching
Both love and hate your video.
I’m not an art fan BUT Bob Ross is a favorite.
Mighty Blue - The last one to Katahdin wins.
You talked through the entire video with only minor dog distractions. I found it riveting.
No way can thru-hikers process their entire hike. I’ve been section hiking for 30 years and I have found after 52 hikes that it takes months to process just one hike. Thru-hikers have back to back to back to back - - - section hikes. 👣👣👣
Love that perspective, back to back to back sections. That’s how we look at it anyway, each section presents all its different challenges and essences. Great comment
one step at a time, can't get to katahdin tonight.
Yup!
sooooo much learning on a trail every day. I think the biggest thing I learn every time im out there is that I dont miss the "real world." I always think im leaving something behind, but what I gain out there washes all that away. great vid!
Great points!
❤
Thanks for watching!
Great video, as an experienced backpacker that has been through some tough days… what was it like for you on those days that were really hard? Will you elaborate on when you felt the most discouraged and why? What did you do to persevere?
Also I noticed you exercised everyday or practically every day on trail.. that must have been exhausting… why did you fell the need to do that and what benefits do you think you gained by doing so? The 15 plus miles per day must have been challenging enough… so what was your purpose behind the push-ups and sit-ups… did it benefit you later down the trail?
-Will
Excellent questions. In terms of the tough days that made me feel discouraged, there were plenty. However on the AT, I NEVER wanted to get off trail. I found that the toughest ones were the days that seemed out of my control. The days that it felt like something might pull me off trail before I wanted to. Shin splints for example, hurt so bad I thought i broke my leg: stress fracture. That was really hard to deal with, thinking about having to get off trail for an injury. I was pretty bummed thinking my body failed me even though my mind was strong. Luckily, it wasn’t broken, and I was able to rest for a a few days and then resume. Missing home, being tired, wet, cold, hungry; I rather enjoyed those feelings, maybe I’m just a glutton for punishment. Which is also maybe why I did the push-ups and sit-ups at the end of the day lol. Even though hiking 20 miles a day is for sure enough of a workout, I wanted to make sure my arms and core weren’t losing too much muscle. Once I got in the habit of doing it, I even looked forward to it each evening. Like a ritual I suppose. Thank you for these questions and all the support! I’m pumped for your experience!

Loved the response, thanks for taking the time…
How about hygiene on the trail? My short trips I just used sanitizer and maybe wet wipes . What was your routine to keep you healthy as possible I guess is what I’m asking…
@@willbullard8600 OH BOY! My hygiene was atrocious on trail lol. I got like 3 styes cause of it. Maybe I was just living out my dreams of being a gross little boy forever or something, but I definitely could've / should've taken better care of myself. I used hand sanitizers after going to the bathroom, and wiped my face off in a lake/stream in the evenings, but that was about it. I only stayed at a hostel like every week and half or so, so I didn't take too many showers. If you find out a better system, please let me know! haha
@@PackAndSoul Thanks for the candid response Hollywood!
I appreciate you entertaining my questions..
I have dreamed of accomplishing a thru hike for 18 years… I’m a dad of four ranging from 22-4 ha! I live between the Smokies and The Big South Fork..
My trips have only consisted of three night 4 days… so I’ve been curious about how thru hikers sustain and evolve their routine on a long trail….
You probably have addressed some of these questions in your videos but it’s great to be able to communicate directly so thank you.
What about food storage? Did you hang your food or did you keep with you at night?
I always hang whether on a cable or with my bear bag.
This as you know is tedious and I’m curious if this is commonly practiced day after day on the trail.
Thanks
-Frogman
@@willbullard8600 The good news -- all a thru-hike is, is a 4 night trip over and over and over again until you get to Maine! Because you're going into town for a resupply every 4 days or so, it's like resetting the trip I found. Check out my vid on food storage "BEAR CANISTER vs URSACK vs DRY BAG (czcams.com/video/-3wVMOIppcs/video.htmlsi=MQa0hUOTsDR4hktI). I go over what my typical food storage situation was on the AT. Essentially, most people start out hanging every day, then a lot of us (unfortunately me included) got lazy and just kept the food bag in our tent with us as we slept if there wasn't a bear box at a site. Don't "recommend" doing this, but just saying that's realistically what a lot of people end up doing lol. Hope it helps
