I just found your videos looking for JBLM things. But this one hit the most. My oldest is “provisionally” ASD (he’ll get the official eventually) and we just got assigned to JBLM. I have always sheltered myself because you hardly ever see black moms being honest about having special needs kids. Add in military and SAHM and all the other and it’s easy to feel lost in caring for others.
So I’m thankful I saw this right before we move because it reminded me, he’s only 3. One day he will be 6-7-8 and he won’t be where he is today because I fight daily to get him all the help he needs.
Thank you for sharing and encouraging others like me.❀

You’re such a great mom Troy 💗 Eli’s whole progress is amazing! I love how he got his own meal đŸ’ȘđŸŒ a guy who knows what he wants! Love his food ratings lol maybe a future top chef! Wow for math, that is a really tough subject.

Collin was the same way. I wish we lived next to one another. Collin has a IEP ( Individual Education Plan) this plan will follow him through high school. It's just in case he falls behind in any of his classes. We did the headphones because the meltdown turned violent. He doesn't need them now. They took him down in therapy from three times a week to once a week because I pretty much help him at home. And I refuse to give him medications that made him like a zombie type child. I missed the smiles when he was on the medication. I taught him how to be okay without the medication through a lot of practice and a lot of patience. My advice to anyone that is going to deal with a child with autism or if you think your child has autism don't treat them differently. I had to learn that autism is just a different way for them to learn and be. And that it was ok. Many nights of crying and anxiety thinking that I did something wrong during my pregnancy.

Thank you for sharing your story-it hits close to home. 💕 my nephew who has autism did not get early intervention. He was doing so good all year in school this year (2nd grade), to the point that they talked about having him in the classroom full time, and then all of a sudden started having a lot of difficulty with social behavior the past couple weeks. It’s hard to hear he’s having setbacks, but I know he’ll bounce back from it. 💕 You’re such a good mama, Troy. Your son is a beautiful gift. Happy belated Mother’s Day. 💕

You are such a great mom! I know alot of moms with kids on the spectrum and they all seem to have to fight so hard to get all the services they need for their kids. It shouldn't be that way.

I’m so happy he has you as your mom!! I’m so happy you trusted your gut when you recognized he wasn’t hitting certain milestones. I had a student with Autism and he was incredible. He had the best smile and he was just a joy to be around. I’m glad you all have been very proactive and involved in his journey đŸ’•đŸ€đŸ’•đŸ€ That was a cute story about him giving you a thumbs up for cleaning the room without his assistance 😅

Thank you for sharing such a personal part of your families life with us! I love hearing how passionate you were about getting the assistants you knew he deserved. Its ok to cry when telling your story and thinking back on how far he has come. I have a little cousin that is on the spectrum that is the same age as my daughter and I love to hear when her mother shares all the milestones she reaches! You are an amazing mom and I know you all have learned so much from Eli!!

Ah the story you shared about his teacher is so touching! There are angels among us and on different occasions in my life the right people have been put in place just at the right time. I know this is probably such a vulnerable story for you to share. Nothing fires me up or makes me more determined than my kids. Us moms will truly move mountains if we have to! It is so brave of you. Great job mamma and enjoyed hearing your story!

As a mom to an autistic child, I’m also a huge advocate of early intervention. It changed our lives so much! We have to be our kid’s advocates!!! I think I struggle the most with just discipline because he just struggles with his emotions and I don’t want to be pushy. Therapy was a saving grace for my son as well. He has zero words and now at 5 can hold a full conversation with us and I am so thankful đŸ™ŒđŸŸ we struggle daily with meltdowns, but I know that we were chosen by God to be his parents and we are equipped to handle whatever life throws our way. I have truly enjoyed hearing your story ❀

Thank you for listening, I really appreciate you being here. I struggle with discipline and trying not to put too many expectations on him just trying to be balanced but not let him get away with everything. It's a daily challenge on judgement.

I love that you showed him how to adapt, I can imagine that helped a lot! I hear you and what you were feeling, relief to get the assistance you all needed! I didn’t know they could even go to school that young, that’s so great! 😭 Bless that teacher, some people come into our lives for a reason! 💕 The mashed potatoes, no stars mama! đŸ€Ł Thank you for sharing this, so happy that he is doing so well!

You’re an amazing mom and I admire you so much for sharing but also for being such a good advocate for your son. I studied speech language pathology and audiology as a undergrad and it is honestly heartbreaking when parents withdraw from their children that have learning disabilities and it happens a lot. I’ve definitely seen it and the devastating outcome of that

Thank you so much for sharing your story; we are planning on moving to El Paso because it looks like a very family oriented place and also very safe ... we have someone in the spectrum too... are there schools with support for autism, how good are the school districts in EP? ... Any information or link would be very helpful to us, we really like the city but don't know much about how to get help over there.. . It would be awesome if you make a video about that. Thank you very much!

Thank you for this video. I was looking up JBLM stuff and came across this. My son was diagnosed with Autism late last year and he is in the Early intervention program but no ABA is provided since we are in Japan. But I’ll be in JBLM next month. I’m definitely looking forward to getting the help I need for my son.

This should be interesting. I have a family member that’s more on the intense side of the spectrum. He’s non verbal, has repetitive behavior and rituals. As an adult he’s not able to live alone so he does go to workshops to keep him as independent as possible, etc. Nice to see your point of view as a mother. Thank you.
