04 They're not memorising

This clip was used in a workshop at IATEFL 2024, Brighton. Participants watched each of the clips in this playlist and reflected on what they had learnt from the experience.
Don Cherry has been teaching English in Japan for over 30 years and uses a unique, innovative set of tools and techniques. The focus of Don’s lessons is getting students speaking English. The classes we filmed all had around 30 first-year undergraduate university students in them, all majoring in health care professions at Hiroshima International University. They were all 90 minute scheduled lessons.
When we produced these videos, our aim was to provide viewers with the closest experience possible to them actually visiting Hiroshima, observing some of Don’s lessons, and talking with him and some of the students.
