- Abandoned Housing Estate London 🏢
Walking around this housing estate was very eerie creepy atmosphere.
Maryon Grove located in South London was built in the 1970’s.
It’s made up of sixteen 4-storey blocks & 172 homes.
Left stood frozen in time, most residents were moved out almost 10 years ago to make way for redevelopment plans.
A number of flats were badly fire damaged while others still possess the past occupants belongings and furniture.
Some of the empty flats full of furniture, DVD’s, books, family photographs and more.
The estate had plans approved in 2015 to build 165 affordable new homes.

I'm gobsmacked this in the UK. I'm equally gobsmacked at the amount of stuff left behind, clothing and toys that were in excellent condition and white goods that cost a flippin fortune. I've never seen so much of value together like this. I've never seen an estate like this abandoned for redevelopment. It didn't exactly look bad especially when compared to many still lived in. Great video 😊
Why were the people moved out so suddenly that they couldn't take their things? Something doesn't sit right with this.
She mentioned fire damaged so unsure if people were evacuated and then were told they couldn’t go back. I assume because of health and safety concerns. That’s what I think anyway but it could be something else! If I lived there I’d 100% go back for photos and other sentimental items at least! Everything else is replaceable
This is disgusting!! Our homeless veterans and families who live in awful rented accommodation with mold. What a waste and it’s left to just rot…and for why?😡😡😡😡thank you for showing this👍👍👏🏼👏🏼
It's unbelievable these are just going to waste in the wake of the homeless crisis in the UK.
Unforunately there are very few who want to do deep-cleans - obviously for money. It is REALLY hard work, especially on kitchen units. Thus this estate will go uncleaned.
You could put imagrants in these
Actually I’ve looked this estate up on google map and the picture comes up with it is residential cars around a perfectly normal inhabited residential estate. Excuse me?
@@jacquelineskelton2897 its would have to be a delusional females comment! i live near there did you see me on your scroll in google earth?
They are of bad quality and leak since the 60s. They need to go.
Who moves without taking their belongings... Makes No Sense. Was there Some Contamination in these buildings
This is unbelievable, how the government could allow them to rot away like this ,when so many families are desperate, for a roof over their head and have been put in one room places with no room to breathe .the government should be so ashamed of themselves ?
A roof that leaks?
The government is made up incompetent and dysfunctional people that need therapy.
They’ve been aiming to develop more actually suitable housing there but the one or two people remaining there won’t leave, and development can’t start until they do. On paper that makes the current residents sound like the bad guys, but of course it’s meant to.
No money in social housing which is what the planning permission for that estate is. Council will wait for that permission to expire then sell it to a developer to build high end apartments. Locals need to make sure this doesn’t happen.
All those properties could be renovated and house many families. Why did they all just up and leave without their possessions?
They'll be knocked down and replaced with 'luxury' apartments well out of most Londoners budgets.
That’s awful
Very lazy councils with homeless people
Moving people around Britain to places where they have no family support
This looks like a car boot customers dream.. I'd have a field day with the books ,vhs, etc.😊
It is so eerie that each house is still full of sentimental and personal items. It just gives off the impression something sinister happened there! I never knew about this so thanks for sharing!
Don't worry, more will be built or refurbished in London, we've got lots of folk arriving who need homes.
I didn’t
Know these places existed in London what a shock 😳
An entire abandoned hospital in Deptford shocked me 30 years ago. But yeah Britain is a decay-fest.
Why is this estate not renovated for people that needs housed makes no sense
There are so many people desperate for housing why cant the council refurbish them sll another thing the estate looks creepy there a lot of people sleeping rough come on man cant believe the housing let it sit there roting away sad sad
The garbage clearance would cost £1000s per flat. Possible asbestos. There will be legitimate reasons.
No one would willingly leave personal belongings like family photographs? STRANGE?
You would be surprised. Often Council tenants have a vague relationship with personal items such as family photographs. Mass decant programmes (like this one) also seem to bring the worst out in tenants who feel entitled to leave whatever rubbish etc behind as the property they are leaving is being demolished.
Or they might have died.
I know its terrible all the people that need house's in the country? And these are just left to Rot !!!! Its a disgrace.
Why would they leave without their possessions? It's like they all left in a hurry.
The government could pay to have them done up give to homeless veterans
The UK Government doesn't even protect its MOD housing so why would they protect housing estates like this?
Maryon Road estate will be the last of three similar estates to be demolished by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and be replaced with better quality homes. As of 2023 the Council was still in the process of securing vacant possession as, until the final home has been vacated, demolition and redevelopment cannot commence.
Such a shame, with the housing crisis as it is, these could be renovated for desperate families, understandably, there maybe asbestos to be removed to make safe, nevertheless, they would provide an affordable home for someone.
OUTSTANDING camera work. Very good - spooky I will say that. Like anthrax or ebola took over one evening.
Thank you ☺️
Why did everyone leave in such a hurry?
Affordable new homes? Affordable by whom? Certainly not by the people who used to live there! They've probably been relocated to Walsall or somewhere.
Probably turn them into half a million pound flats like they do most social housing these days lol.
If we want social housing we need to fight for it not sit down and complain!! This is not an issue about immigrants but the need for collective bargaining and understanding the power of being one unit. The working class!!
What a crying shame prime land.!These could be affordable apartments or trendy flats shopping development. There should be a peoples syndicate that buys up property or land for affordable housing!.
There are models for that. I know exactly 1 community in Berlin, but I know from them that they are exist in other towns and countries.
Redevelopment=making things worse for you but making money for the few.
Why don't communities come together and renovate them. It's about time people started to create a new system, there's loads of abandoned lands around. Why do we wait for goverment to tell us what to do.
Because the land and houses ........ DONT belong to you , what you're suggesting is theft .
Because the council will come in and undo it all and hand out fines all round....
I don't know why some vigilantes don't move in and set up a makeover scheme. Get everyone working in them in exchange for a home!!
Why keave so many personal items behind.
Hi Ashley another awesome explore. Keep up the good work. Thanks so much for the epic upload 😊👍
Thank you so much!☺️
Winnie Wallace.... Don't think the background music helped. And there was I thinking we had a housing problem...
It's s shame , people's belongings are still there. Do the houses up and rent them out. So many people in London needing a home!
Great explore here Ashley and new subscriber and fellow urbexer from Australia mate. Sad to see so many social housing projects go to waste. It's happening a lot in Australia too
This is criminal. There are so many could be housed here
People did not want to live there.
Must have been something wrong for people to leave their stuff ....?... mould ,asbestos or something .
My parents were forcibly "cleansed" from their london estate by the local council, the area is now private tower blocks with prices starting at 400k for a studio flat, seeing this enrages me knowing how my parents were treated (RIP to them) my father was in his late 70s with terminal cancer at the time and the council were threatening buggers, the stress put him in the hospital and the property the council moved them too was awful, rising damp and mold, no hot water, full of cracks. my blood boils looking at this place the residents were probably treated like crap too, I'm sure the council nicked half my parents furniture they only provided one small truck for the move and discouraged them from taking their large good quality 1960s furniture.
I literally jsut replied to a further up comment talking about how you need to keep them empty so you can knock them down when ready. cos if squatters came in they would sue and cost the local council alot of money.
I replied with something to the effect of what you're saying.
It's disgusting how these "local councils" carry on and treat their people like cattle. Even mmore disturbing that their are thosde still among us who are like sheep in obedience to them.
Sorry to hear about your parents mate it makes me sick. makes most of us all sick.
Soon come this all has to come to a stop we gotta get those local councils out and replaced.
@@krishendo9433 with who? Tories, Labour, greens and Lib dems are all the same buggers in a different coloured tie.
Terrible that your late parents were treated like that. Shocking.
Im surprised no homeless people are squatting here
I’m surprised at the good condition of these flats only halfway through the vid but haven’t seen any obvious damp or mould in these properties what were empty for a couple of years did he say ?
ironically I’d bet people right now will be living in damp /mouldy conditions within a mile or so of these flats and be more than happy to swap
Without mentioning the homeless such a waste .
It wasn't just building maintenance issues which made these two estates unviable.
I notice a lot of people make the point about letting the homeless move in. But the main problem is that you would never get them out again when you are finally ready to demolish. Also what happens when somebody has an accident in the unsafe housing. They would sue the pants off the local authority .........Kerching £££££
come on mate. think about it just a little further.
right now they get put up in hotels and all sorts of much more expensive accomodations. (iv'e workdd at a hotel where this was happening and it was completely fuckign mental.)
the only reason the want to demolish and redevelop is for their own Kerching £££££ . make some unnaffordable bullshit flats probably 3-4 times the amount of "dwellings" there is their right now.,
trying to cram us into crappy studio's that cost an arm and a leg...
think about your own and other peoples kids/grandkids and what kind of home will bee available for them
If they can afford a lawyer- they don’t come for free
Wow, I haven't seen this place before and I watch quite a few urbex channels. Really trashed and creepy. Surprised you didn't find a few dodgy "residents"!
Its not just eerie its very sad, Peoplecs whole lives are left in those flats, just discarded. And planning permission granted for 9 years now, the whole place needs to be squatted, a lot of it seems ok, or at least ot would be after a deep clean
Those maisonettes were never OK before they became vacant (and eventually abandoned). The environment was unpleasant, crime was very high, noise nuisance was prevalent and the dwellings were expensive to keep warm. There were also damp and condensation issues and didn't fit into the 'Woolwich Plan' which is all about better quality housing and reducing the Councils social housing stock.
What happens is they decide on redevelopment. Make purchases where necessary and move everyone out. They then look for developers to take over the site and build the new homes or shops etc. but usually there's planning permission problems budget issues and greed. Then this happens. It's all there derelict ten years on. What a waste of money and homes.
Great video didn’t realise you had a CZcams channel just subscribed to you ❤
Thank you! I didn’t realise you did either, I’ve done the same ☺️
@@AshleyUrbex thank you 😊
Interesting video, but yes as another sub said try slow down on your videos. when did the flats get demolished?
I know Marion grove, used to live near there and knew someone who lived in Marion grove. This is in Charlton South East London, not far from the Woolwich army barracks. Thought this estate was knocked down years ago.
Got a lot of memories from growing up around that area, how times have changed.
Why was it left and why they leave most the stuff? Reminds me of Chernobyl
The residents were moved out in mid 2010s as they plan to develop. I’m unsure why stuff has been left.
Me too! A proper ghost town, was crazy walking around it.
They are demolish them now. The onse on Maryon Road in Charlton next to the mini market shop are now all gone along with the flat pack golden high rise buildings which feature in a film in the 1960s when they were new.
It's taken so long to develop from planning permission for affordable homes, probably no longer affordable then 🙄
There’s loads of empty houses up near me it’s how they keep the housing market up
The homeless should get into these
Houses like that were just thrown up at the time. Probably built with RACC, now there tearing down.
Homeless people could make their homes there what a waste
Hi, Ashley . Pretty sure this place has been used in some Police like programmes . Spooks and ,Silent Witness come to mind . Nice little explore .
Oh really!! That’s cool :)
It’s actually been mostly demolished now
I was thinking the same. Waking the dead and inspector
Frost.
They will build homes for people with money do not care about poor work en. Class anymore money so sad
Wouldn't be too hard to gather up all of the decent furniture and beds, bring them into the flats that still have windows and were not fire damaged and homeless folk could move in there and not freeze to death during winter. It would sure beat living in a tent and dying of cold in the winter months.
We could house them in 4 star hotels, we do it for new arrivals.
@@sideshow4417lol. Of course we do.
@@tonylowe6770 Are you saying it would be ridiculous if we did? Please tell me that's what you're saying so I can send you a link to them being housed in a 4 star hotel.

Why the govt don't take over refurb and give to homeless🤔
Homes don't solve homelessness.
The UK Government doesn't have a housing department which directly owns or manages housing.

Er... why ?
Redevelopement? Looks like no p.p. to me.
And yet they keep on building more houses on lovely green fields and spoiling the countryside, makes me so sick and angry, if they did all these up, bet a load of wretched illegal immigrants will be living here
Looks like Chernobyl
I thought the same very sad
You mean Pripyat.
South East London.
Like a zombie film. What a waste….
You see derelict houses in france and italy being done up all the time on CZcams ...... Not impossible 🤷
This is apart of a far larger demolition and redevelopment plan. Look up Morris Walk Estate for the bigger picture. Maryon Road and Grove border the Morris Walk estate.
Let's be honest. They need knocking down and better housing built. It looks like a prison. Block.
They look bad because they've been vandalised. Lots of people would jump at the chance to live there.... I'll bet 🙄😕
@@carolinejohnson22 Sadly you are wrong. People didn't want to live there, in fact in the 90s when it was still a viable estate, people wouldn't even go to view the properties when they were offered to them let alone move in to them.
So sad the property's look a fair size people forced to move now just left abandoned! Hope they got compansation
you think they were compensated properly? if at all? just moved on.
Decant programmes of this nature attract a decant payment from the Council, free removals, adjustments to carpets and curtains and support throughout the whole process. I think in this case the tenants received £5000 per dwelling.
Go back gather clothes wash them & donate them straight to local homelessness outreach
You go
@GP-nh1uwthey moved out 10 years ago it said not 1970. The place was built in the 70s.
@GP-nh1uw clearly uve never been destitute..when I was 15 I wore clothes found in empty properties on hulme estate Manchester
They came to the end of their life apparently and are up for redevelopment, there will asbestos there and all sorts.
If it's low grade asbestos it's only dangerous if damaged, so as long as anyone doing work on it had asbestos training it was probably safe enough. Not saying they didn't need condemned though
“Redevelopment plans” yeah housing migrants whilst people who were born here were told to move on. 😢

Noted I agree, this is an old video, I’ve got the right equipment now for stable slow videos 😊
I'm old school (in my 50s) so I differ and think the turning captured ALOT of this Urban Exploration Decay on the camera in a snip. There was ALOT of decay and shall we say "exhumation" of someone's living conditions. Given the absence of mould. I'm thinking this was a film-set? Only joking. I know this was truly real and bizarre.
