    Appreciate it man. That was really cool of you.
    I laughed out loud at a couple of the Simpson lines…
    On another note, I think just as you stated, I think it’s important to have a bunch of different ideas in mind when dealing with fish especially when you’re continuously adding to them so I look at it as having another tool any time I find something that I didn’t know before I master it, and then add it to my toolbox, and use it when necessary..

    I found moving the rocks around and leveling the sand out every water change in my all mbuna tank... They seem more occupied digging and checking out the new caves... I also keep the light off for a good part of the day... The wave make I added worked as well... I still get some chasing here and there but nothing like before...

      I am inclined to agree! Still, it's hard to rehome some of my favorites, so I wind up trying other things first. Usually.

    If fighting starts i rearrange the ENTIRE tank. Everything. And do a partial water change. I don't know exactly why but they just go back to regular behavior after that.. has worked every time so far. But the key is that the whole tank has to look completely foreign to them you can't halfway do it.

    Where are your rocks from? I have been looking for the right fake rocks for my 6ft tank. Been to all the websites and looking around on the web and I love the way those look. The big rock that is gray and red is my favorite.

      Thank you! I use Caribsea aragonite from Petco. I would start with 5 or 6, wait a few weeks to make sure the bacteria is sufficient, then add about 5 more and call it. None bigger than 5 or 6” once full grown. It will seem like you don’t have enough fish when they were small, but once they reach maturity, 10 is plenty. Go with some less aggressive ones like the blue neon and flame tail. A lot of people will tell you otherwise, and it’s fine if you want to go with other opinions. This one’s just my opinion.

    I have males and females together and they're doing fine, maybe I am insane but it's been working for over a year, I've had a couple babies survive and grow up in there. one is purple and the coolest peacock I've seen. only had one big fight where a male got really beat up and that male has been removed, temps around 78, strong current from an internal filter, plenty of rocks and hiding places, tank is 4ft long and 2ft tall and there's 11 fish total, 4 males and 6 females and 1 very young male that will be removed soon. but it's going well, and cool to see them breeding. I have another identical tank with albinos that are breeding out of control and I have to keep taking babies to the fish store, but there is some aggression in that tank, nothing too serious but it has way more fish.

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  Před 6 měsíci

      You have to be careful with that. For example, in my 180 gallon Angelfish tank, I have the fx6 output angled upward and a small Wavemaker pointing almost straight up just as surface agitation. Can’t really have a lot of current in there

    I have pipes in my tank where my blue mbuna lives and hides from the jack Dempsey. Jack will stare at one entrance cuz he can't fit inside it. mbuna knows the whole pipe system so he easily gets around without worry.

    I will pick the boss before they picked among them selves. I go for an American ciclid with a deformed mouth like red parrot, he will be first in the tank. American ciclid is aggressive but not targeting like African, he will stop any other whose has any idea and break up all the chase.

    • @keirenle

      Oh, also a barb, like silver barb or flag fish. Big enough and fast enough and stupid enough to just keep moving to the territory and not be killed. The male will give up on his burrow afterwards

      @CichlidCharmer I tried to move away from African ciclids, but I always go back to them. In my experience, they are all vicious, esp when they are at the top of the order. Put them in semi submissive positions, then they get along together fine.
