Watch this video if you want to know what it's truly like to fly on Emirates' worst and most outdated business class seat. While Emirate's service and food was fantastic, it's hard to get past the seat design in this full 777 business class trip report of my flight from Dubai to Ho Chi Minh City.

EK flies to some high population, low premium demand countries. I am surprised that it took this long for their new biz cabin to be introduced. Their biz class prices mean I always fly another airline out of DXB.

@@get2dachoppa249 They fly their 777-200LR without F to my home city (2-2-2). Which is okay in that the cabin is nicer but no chance to upgrade to F. Hope the demand doesn't go too high since they would probably switch it to the dreaded 777-300ER 2 class :(

I agree on a lot of points. We recently had 2 flight to come back from Phuket to Brussels. The seats wasn't the best one even it was a real full flat one. We had only the amenity kit on one of the two flight. The cabin crew said : "oh, it is only for flights to Dubai, not from"... Strange. On Qatar business flights, we had anemities and pyjamas on both of the 2 flights from Brussels to Phuket. The other problem on that business class was the delay between the takeoff (20:00) and the meal serving (22:30). The cabin crew was too busy to put all the "seat covers" for the fully booked business cabin. We felt asleep during the meal service and didn't get the dessert. And so we didn't take that seat cover. It seems there was not enough people to take care of the business passengers. Not a great experience. The worst part of the first flight were the people around. Noisy all the time. Not listening to the cabin crew (no seatbelt during takeoff, lading or at any time).... Seat reclined during take off and landing even the cabin crew ask them several times. Sorry but next time, if the flight is on a 777, I'll choose another company for a business flight.

That seat takes me back, WAY back, to American's long haul 777 Business Class seats in the late '90s and early '00s. They were in dreaded 2-3-2 configuration and were "cradle" seats, with 55° of recline. I flew AA 777s twice monthly from Chicago to Tokyo and then London back to Chicago, flying Cathay Pacific around Asia and to Frankfurt, and BA's domestic Business Class to London. Fortunately, I had a ton of free First Class upgrades on AA, so I was able to avoid the cradle seat.

@@TheFishingNomad A complete answer would take a book, so I'll try to keep this a short as possible. I worked for Motorola for 15 years after 10 years at Amoco Oil (now BP). My last 8 years at Motorola were as a member of the Motorola University Consulting Services team. Yes, we had our own Uni for technical engineering and engineering management courses. Motorola invented "Six Sigma" in the early '80s. A super oversimplified description of Six Sigma is using statistical methods for solving business problems. In 1988 (IIRC), Motorola won the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award. One of the requirements of winners was to provide benchmarking info to requesting organizations for one year. Rather than deal with tons of individual requests, we hosted monthly conferences that turned out to be very popular. We got so many requests for "can you help us implement Six Sigma in our organization?" that we formed the Consulting Services group. Nothing in the Baldridge Award benchmarking requirement said we had to do it for free. Due to my abilities to think on my feet, function best when as far away from my boss as possible, solve other peoples problems, and communicate effectively with large groups even when their first language wasn't English, had me picking up all of the international opportunities. We were a very small group, very different from the likes of KPMG, Anderson, PwC (a partner) etc., so I developed local Motorola talent in the countries with an existing Motorola presence when business opportunities arose there. Asia came first, starting with 9 months in Korea, followed by Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. The local Motorola reps I was training would ID opportunities and I would fly in for the sales presentations. I wound up booking 50% more business by myself than the entire Chicago-based team that focused on the U.S. Success breeds demands for more, so I was given Europe as well. I would align the sales calls with my travel schedule. Tokyo was just a connection point. Due to the seasonal jet stream variations and aircraft range limits at the time, there was no regularly scheduled service between Chicago and Hong Kong. I'd fly American to Narita, then connect on Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong. I'd then do HK to Singapore or KL, then back to HK to connect to Frankfurt. I'd then do Madrid or Amsterdam or Paris, then on to London, before returning to Chicago on American. In 10 days. 6 nights in hotels. 3 on airplanes. I'd do my laundry at home in Chicago, and then head out again.

@@TheFishingNomad On a separate note, my worst Business Class seat and flight EVER was back in '95 on a United 747 from Chicago to Narita, connecting to another United 747 flight to Hong Kong. This was shortly after United had purchased Pan Am's Asian routes. Common Business Class configurations on the upper deck of a 747-400 were between 28 and 32 seats. United stuck 42 (that's Forty f'ing Two) seats up there. If the person in front of you reclined their seat, you HAD to recline yours. There was no way to get out of a window seat. It sucked SO bad. The only redeeming event on that flight was listening to the very loud fight between one of our United flight attendants and the formerly Pan Am pilots. They wanted their meals served in courses, and the FA impolitely told them that they were United pilots now and they could have their meal all at once on one tray, or not at all. She got a round of applause from all 42 of us when it was over. 😄I was Executive Platinum on American and never tried United again in Asia. On that one flight, I was traveling with a Sr. VP who picked the flights. Pan Am, then United, were super popular with Motorola execs working in China. The Chinese airlines were so bad (e.g., folding chairs in the aisle on oversold flights and generally really poor safety records), that they were permitted to fly from one city in China to another by connecting on Pan Am/United through Narita. Two 4-5 hours Business Class segments instead of one short domestic Economy-only segment each way.

Quick night flights as we used to do out of Yangon, just wonderful. Daytime or night time flights as three with a little kid, perfect with her in the middle. Obviously the A380 is much better, as newer products such as the last Eithad we took, but kinda inconvenient when your child still likes to sleep next to both of you.

I have never flown on a non 2-3-2 config on an Emirates 777 business class even on much longer flights. My gripe is the lack of storage around the seat. Very first world. For luggage wheels I find that the durability of them is usually all about how they're mounted- how the wheel mount, is mounted, that is. Often they are attached directly to the suitcase, which is the style that snaps off easily. The better method is having a plate on the inside to match the mount on the outside and then they sandwich the material of the suitcase. These are the style that last years.

GREAT points! In my opinion, Emirates is one of the worst airlines when traveling to secondary markets. In Business and especially Economy from DBX are horrible experiences. The airport is overcrowded, the boarding is unorganized...and that is saying it politely. Have you ever tried to board a Sub Continent bound flight? The flight may have only 300 people, but it's like being in the middle of rush hour traffic in Delhi...chaos. Once on board, the service on Business is good (not great like it used to be 8-10 years ago) and Economy is non-existent (especially to those secondary markets or to the Sub-Continent). I had the misfortune of traveling from Dubai to Bangkok on the 777 with the 2-3-2 in business class and as a diabetic asked for an appropriate meal. When meal service happened, I was served a normal meal. I told them I requested a Diabetic meal. They said they didn't have it and brought me some fruit and bread. No apologies, no notes, nothing. That was the last time I flew that disgusting airline...and this was a 3 person business class ticket for my family and myself. They can go to hell and Dubai can go to hell.

Damn, then what's economy? A park bench?

Premium economy definitely sucks more because the person in front of you can still recline onto your face. Premium economy is basically economy from the 90s

I deducted 4 points because there were too many cashews in the mixed nuts. Cashews are the crack of nuts.
I didn't see any macadamia so that's anther 3 point deduction smmfh

For all the crap that this seat gets, I just come back to this, it is still better and more comfortable than economy.

Well, yeah of course lol. I'm not comparing it to economy 😅

So thorn on those seats, they just look awful. I’m looking for a good flight to Nairobi from Frankfurt or Zurich. But all connections just offer terrible equipment and an awful hard products on the main leg from their hubs (Emirates, Qatar, Turkish..)

The seats look so cramped and it's like there is no room for arm rest.
Also their IFE looks so outdated like they still keep the skeuomorphic design, while others have flat design now. At least their movie selections are good

I remember the graphics looking pretty sharp and modern on my game changer flight. I wonder if they used an updated version or if they just looked better on a much better screen.

@@tffti don't mean it's low resolution, it's just the design of their philosophy. Like the rest has flat design while Emirate still has to old school skeuomorphic design (which is like more shadow, depth in the UI elements)
