Love this young lady voice. Remarkable talent! I'm so glad her and her brother Richard was so close makes them a Legend. Missed Karen beautiful voice, thank God we can live it through her music.❤️
Its so sad that her house had to be sold. If the damage has not been done to her she would have still been alive today. Thanks for posting some of Richard sister's memories of her home. R.I.P Karen.
A voice of and Angel, I feel sad when I here her sing, because of how she die, u never now in real life how people struggle with anorexia and depression, it does not matter if ur rich or poor we all have to leave this earth one day .this life is only temporary . life is to short
Such a beautiful voice Karen Carpenter had! This is my favorite song from the Carpenters. It's so sad what she had to endure with Anorexia; double sad what her husband did to her also. R.I.P. Karen!
I saw Richard Carpenter on Jay Leno's Garage. He is a car collector and he did segments on a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda, a 1971 Ferrari Daytona, and a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB4. The last two cars were from Bill Harrah's dealership Modern Classic Motors in Reno, Nevada.
That's true JP. If Richard had emotional ties to the house, he would have never sold it. He could still move like he did and then just rent it out or have a relative live there or whatever. He's a multimillionaire and can afford 2 homes. It's just sad that from what I've read, the owners today have let the place go and it looks bad. The trees are badly overgrown and who knows what the Japanese garden looks like in the backyard.
The new owners of their Newville home totally destroyed it. What a shame! It once was beautiful, although I toured it several times prior to it's "refurbish." it was lovely.
It will be nice to purchase the Newville house and restore it to it's original interior and exterior reflecting the early 1970s, from the studio, dining room table, living room decor, to the lava lamp (Just kidding. I don't know if Karen had one of those. ) , down to that mini bar and brass Zodiac images behind Karen in the early 1970s interview. We need to match the interior colors. I am wondering if they had those beaded doorways. Karen loved bead work. Ah! Take me back to my childhood. Serious note, it is ashamed to have the Newville House fall apart at the hands of a careless owner who doesn't care. It's really important to preserve this landmark. ❤
I get sad when I hear their music. First, because it reminds me of a time before my family collapsed. Secondly, because of Karen's early demise. Thirdly, because I'm no longer a kid from the sixties and 70's and now see our country's own collapse looming not too far ahead.
I remember when the Carpenters would decorate their home on Christmas for the neighborhood to enjoy. I also remember when Karen took her life in 1983, I had just graduated w a BA from California State Univ., LA. It was a total shock, painful, too much! Thank u very much for sharing such a soul & talent. Rest in peace Karen.
She didn't technically take her life. She died of heart failure from anorexia. But I guess if you let yourself get that thin, it is an unconscious indirect attempt at ending your life.
I was there in 2007 before they destroyed the studio house next door. The property looked horrible back in 2007. I took many photos, thankfully. The deer statues looked ridiculous. I could feel Karen’s spirit there. It was a bit surreal knowing that she died in that house. Very sad ending to such a beautiful and talented soul. The mansion they built on the studio property looks awful. Richard wanted to leave those memories in his past, otherwise he would have kept the properties.
Well atleast you saw the house how hard it must still be for Richard Carpenter I can only imagine how tough it is for his baby sister in the end .I try to understand what he is going through.
The beautiful Japanese garden in the backyard has been totally destroyed. The home has been divided in two and destroyed. VERY SAD! Yes, Rich hasn't any sentimental attachment or he would have never sold that home and all those lovely memories of Karen.
It's kinda cool to look at the "Now and Then" cover and see the size of the tree in the front yard and then watch video of what it looks like today. It's HUGE. A little too big actually. The owners should trim it.
KarenCarpenter Fan I believe the owners planted more because ppl kept taking pictures and they had no privacy at all. Pll were getting out of hand and being very rude :(
Yes, that jerk of a husband she had! I'm so glad she left the majority of her estate to Richard and her parents only leaving him the house. I hope he had to sell it because he couldn't keep it up!
I remember when Karen said long time ago she always like to play her 🥁 and sing doing both. And told her no so Karen was so sad about it What she wouldn't played her 🥁 on stage. Karen she is excited on the 🥁. And her singing to she the best. And I always will like her song And her Christmas 🎄 song to.
Awesomeness! I hope you will tune in to one of my Karen podcast! On February 3rd, 2015 while driving through Thousand Oaks, California Karen called out me! The very next day on her 32 anniversary of her passing miracles would take place at her mausoleum on that day and everyday that I visited her!!
Who took the photo @ 1:23 and what year is it? What is on the roof? Looks like it was after Richard sold the house with the changes to the garage doors and the year the car on the street.
No, he didn't. I do think he misses Karen and his parents but he might be a person who doesn't like to be surrounded by memories and that's why he sold the place. I think he should have been more concerned though about whom he was selling it to.

If it really is like were born we live, we try to make a mark then we die, but most of us are forgotten, then you're right having that attitude. But if you look at it like, we're born we live we do things to make life better for everybody else and those in our future to help carry on our species, then there's a good reason we're here. I prefer the latter.
1:23 How did you ever get this photo?? That’s the only one I’ve seen that really shows how extensive the studio lot was. That abomination of a McMansion that went in is truly tragic. Have you seen the video an attendee took from the estate sale Richard put on before selling the house? What an event… strangers rummaging thru their practice room and personal belongings of Karen’s.
SuperPaige02 I'm sure she did, we only have tv accounts for that. A lot we don't know. It's sad she struggled with body issues, wish she had been around now when we have come so far. There will never be a voice like Karen's.
@SuperPaige02 Some families never say "I love you". It's not something they are able to do. Usually they NEVER heard it from their parents and the behavior continues

Everrlasting Karen's memory is so beautiful and melodious.... Rest in peace Karen.
