- Today we are color grading footage from the DJI Mini 3 Pro shot in d-log. It's a bit more RAW than the two previous episodes. I didn't get around to experimenting much with the clip before recording the video, so it's a pretty clear view of my color grading process and how I go about it. I hope you enjoy it!
As always, let me know what you think in the comments below and suggestions for other clips to grade are more than welcome! A big thanks to Luc for providing the footage!

Thanks, Alex! Really enjoyed this. This was a really sweet edit. Even after using them so much in Lightroom, I never really considered using filters/windows with video. I’m excited to put these tools to use!
For anyone that is wondering, this was D-Cinelike on the Mini 3 Pro and I think it is after the 10-bit update, so it recorded in 10-bit.
Thanks again, Alex!
Thanks a ton for the footage, Luc! And for clarifying the settings on the footage - I didn't even know the Mini 3 Pro had 10-bit now but that makes so much sense in terms of how easy it was to work with the colours!
Amazing capture and glad you liked the video and grade as well man!
Great video Alex! Love it, will watch it again soon to try color grade my footage step by step following your guide
Thanks mate! Looking forward to seeing your future grading!
Great video I really learned a whole lot new and tried to apply these techniques to a clip I shot with the mini 3 pro and it looks fantastic
Amazing! Love to hear that - happy you've come further with your color grading! Keep up the good work!
Man, I was waiting for tutorials like yours!!! First I was a bit overwhelmed but the more videos I watch, the more I understand your colorgrading technique!!! Love it! 🙌🏻🫶🏻 cheers from Austria
Thank you Jakob! I've definitely gotten better at both grading but also teaching since this video, so hopefully my more recent videos can help you out even more!
Nice result 👍
Thank you!
Thanks, you made pperfect ~👌
Cheers mate! Glad you liked it!

Appreciate it!
So is D-Log on the Mini 3 Pro different from D-Log on the Air 2s? I ask because I've never been able to use the CST to get correct looking results on my Air 2s but rather I've been stuck using the D-Log-M to REC709 out DJI provides.
After putting the video up I learned that this clip was actually in D-Cinelike and not D-Log, however the conversion still made it work.
I don't know if D-Log for the two drones are different but they might've made a few changes between the drones. I use the CST for all drone clips, Mini 2, Mini 3 Pro, Mavic 2 Pro and Air 2s - and I've been happy with it on them all. Some clips needs more correction afterwards than others though.
The CST, just like any conversion LUT, will be one way of transforming the footage. I've used the CST on Air2S footage and think it looks great but if you're used to another LUT, there's absolutely nothing wrong with using that, as long as you're consistent.
Where it can be useful to use the CST is if you got clips from different drones as you'll then know that it's being converted the exact same way across the drones but the same goes for using the LUT you already got ofc.
I hope that answered your question and helped a bit. Ended up being a bit of a novel 😅
@@AlexBjorstorp they are massively different, there videos explaining the differences from proper D-log and almost worthless D-Cinelike.
Hey Alex!
Awesome tutorial. Quick query: For the Color Space Transform, shouldn't it be 709 for D-Cinelike picture profile from the mini 3 pro ? Or is the combo of DJI D-Gamut (color space) and DJI D-log (gamma) the right fit?
Thanks for clarifying!
There is no correct transformation for Cinelike built in and I have later found myself not using D-LOG for the regular D-LOG either. For both D-LOG and Cinelike I use D-Gamut and Canon Log, that gives a nice and softer conversion than with the D-LOG conversion 🙌🏻
Hope that helps 🙏🏻
Would be cool if you could the equivalent windows command keys in either the video or description
Perfect videos man , keep it up very helpfull subscrabed already👌🏽👌🏽
Cheers man! Appreciate it, glad it helped and happy to have you here 🙌🏻
May i ask which is the video showing a more simple node tree?
If you search for ‘beginner node tree’ in my channel you should find a video showing a simple node tree 😊
Is it better to shoot in MOV or MP4 for the mini 3 pro? I’m also on Mac so I have loads of clips and doing them individually is taking me ages
I think .mov is slightly less compressed and it’s an Apple codec, so it runs great on mac. I haven’t seen any difference in quality though, so I don’t think it matters. I don’t get the last part of your comment, what is taking ages? ☺️
@@AlexBjorstorp basically if I have 24 clips to colour grade I have to do them clip by clip but try to match the mood for each one so they are the same after transitions but is there a way to like command and select then it will colour grade them the same? It was the first time with d cinelike so it was quite hard and few of my shots was too grainy and sharp even after turning it down so I had to delete them 😢
@@Davidvrjsullivan ah that way! Okay now I understand!
When you have graded the first clip, you can select that inside the Color page, hit command + c (control on windows), highlight all the other clips and paste with command + v. Then go in and make the individual adjustments for each clip. I usually change the exposure for each clip and then for the most part I’m ready to go ☺️
@@AlexBjorstorp amazing! Thank you 🙏 is there any way to save a clip that looks too sharp? I took the ND filter off as it was getting dark, maybe I should of increased the ISO slightly but hey ho
@@Davidvrjsullivan I suppose you mean too dark? If it gets grainy there’s not much you can do with the free version of Davinci. If you got the studio version there’s a really great noise reduction tool, takes a bit to figure out and takes a lot of computer power to playback but it can get rid of most noise if you find a good balance without it getting too mushy ☺️
Thank you!
You are welcome! Thank you for watching!
Excellent pls keep uploading, and also which app is used here?
It literally says that in the title, thumbnail and I mention it in the video 🤷🏼♂️ It’s Davinci Resolve.
How did you mean he shock node 8? Having trouble on that part. Great video tho!
I’m saying shortcut hehe, not shock. I made a shortcut for making parallel nodes - which in my case is now option + A. You can also just right click the node, select ‘add node’ and choose ‘parallel node’ that does the exact same thing ☺️
@@AlexBjorstorp hahah ohhh gotcha ya. I ended up noticing that after watching another video of yours its parallel node. thank you!
I definitely got better at explaining the different parts along the way - but some of these earlier videos I wasn't there yet haha. Glad to see that I'm improving on that part and I mentioned it in a nother video!
You do all of those nodes for EACH clip?? Time consuming!!
No, I do them for the first clip, copy them to the rest and adjust as needed. No more time consuming and doing it in Premiere or Final Cut but at a lot more visual and easier to adjust and see individual changes 😊
The DJI Mini 3 Pro doesnt shoot in D-LOG. D-Cinelike is Rec.709, but saturation and contrast are brought way down.
Correct! However, playing around with CST's to find a better starting point than the desaturated, less contrasted look that d-cinelike provides is not wrong - it's just a way of getting a different start that's easier to grade from :-)
👏👏👏👏
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hello mate
I don't think you should use the colour space transform, it's not D-log but already rec709 d-cinelike there's nothing to really transform there.
As far as I can read online, D-cinelike is not in rec 709, it’s it’s own colour profile and space. While it’s technically not correct to use the dlog transform, it worked and I like the result. In the end what matters is that we get a result we’re happy with. This was much easier than playing around with the exposure and saturation plus I’m then sure it’s in rec 709.
When I recorded this video, as I said in the beginning as well, I didn’t know if it was dlog or d-cinelike, as it’s not my own clip ☺️
Completely valid point but it’s not ‘wrong’ to use the CST, especially not for what we’re doing in this series, which is not currently grading for movies or high production stuff but merely showing my Color grading process and how to use the different tools in combination.
I appreciate your comment and feedback though, it made me look up the colour profile and understand it a bit better although there’s not much clear information on it ☺️🙌🏻
Hi Alex
I'm not trying to be annoying here or proof something. I bought the mini 3 a month ago and the first thing a did with the footage is to use the colour space transform but no luck with it.
If you use the davinci wide colour space for your grading, in the colour page you can easily check the colour input of your footage. It says rec709(scene).
all the best 👍
All good man and thanks! But all I was trying to say is, that you can see it changes the colours in my video and brings me closer to the starting point I want, so no matter if it is rec709 or not the input gamma and Color space from the d-log still makes a difference on the footage and brought me a step closer to where I wanted the grade 😊
It’s not only the output gamma and colour space that matter in the CST but good to know that it’s already in the rec 709 colour space, then the last two steps of the CST probably didn’t make any difference 😊
Shot in D-Log?
I found out after the video was published that it was actually shot in d-cinelike but I’ve found the d-log conversion to be a great starting point anyway ☺️
@@AlexBjorstorp It's actually very different, unfortunately. Used to have Phantom 4, sold it to get this the M3P. D-Log on P4 was amazing. D-Cinelike is definitely better than nothing though. But sticking the Pro in the name should automatically mean D-Log by default. Hope it will come in the near future.
@@alexyakas oh yes, I know it’s very different. D-log is definitely better I was only talking in terms of the grading. Now I will say though, if the exposure is correct it’s possible to get a nice image out of both cinelike and log ☺️
OMG ... Mini 3 Pro doesn't shoot video in Log. It's simply flat profile.
Any LOG profile is ‘simply a flat profile’ 😊
Wow you destroyed the natural, real look.
Have a great day 😊
