I saw this live back in 2004 and was absolutely blown away. To this day, this is the most beautiful, the most magical, and hands down THE BEST PERFORMANCE EVER for an Olympic open. Lyrics...PERFECT 10/10. Music (more like a work of art for your ears...your soul)...PERFECT 10/10! If opening performances were an Olympic event...Bjork gets the gold for Iceland, and a new Olympic record. She got a new fan (and I'm sure many more) that night. :)
Fun fact: Bjork was attached to a platform that would have raised her high up as her dress unfurled, but there was a safety issue so the plan had to change. Still, I can't image this being any more perfect.
This remains in my memory as the single greatest moment I’ve ever seen on live television. I was completely floored by it then and still am every time I watch it again. Bjork channels the entire experience not only of humanity but of planet earth. Every exquisite detail, from her costume to her movements to the way her “dress” unfurls through the cooperation of people from all over the world to become a gigantic ocean, creates a singular, deeply loving experience. The confidence and Audacity to not do the obvious thing and play a big, loud, fast hit, but to rather slow down, become quiet, and let this strange and magical beauty unfold is just so impressive and mesmerizing. This is true art bringing the world together

Imagine that she was supposed to rise way beyond, towering above the people by a mechanical contraption that didnt work in the end! No matter this she still captivated the senses. Beautiful!

im so sorry, i adore this woman but: where is her microphone? its a shame to say but i think bjork is lip synching to the studio vocal. I remember being obsessed with the way she put emphasis on the constant "cr" in the line "stingrays are floooooohhhting/Ahhuhhhh CROSS the sky", and it is the exact same way on the studio recording of Oceania on medulla. By no means am I impuning this wonderful and creative performance, or the cool ass dress, or Bjorks integrity as a vocalist. just something i just now noticed in retrospect after Celine stole our hearts in 2024
I don't know if it's real, but I read somewhere that Björk wanted to sing live but she isn't allowed to. That's why she didn't bother wearing a mic.
