    Bought one about 35 years ago, still using it. The first time I tried it the log split and flew about ten feet and bounced off the side of my truck. After that I figured out how to swing just enough to split the wood.

      I was always taught to let the axe or maul do the work. Shift your hands as you drop the axe down and it shifts the weight to the head of the axe giving it more weight behind the chop.

  • @joshuanorgaard6425
    @joshuanorgaard6425 Před 6 lety +146

    Hey so when you chop wood you start with your dominant hand at the throat (closest part to the head of the axe) swing down and slide your dominant hand to where your non dominant hand is (bottom of the handle). If you do this it will put less strain on your back and arms and the weight of the head will do all the work

      I've been chopping wood for many years now. Sometime even very hard, branched wood. I've never done what you decsribed. Never have i had any problems with my back.

    • @crashyburnymit4080
      @crashyburnymit4080 Před 6 lety +6

      My dominant hand stays on the very end of the handle, and the other hand slides and keeps the axe on its path. Quite the opposite of what you say

    • @droyce4596
      @droyce4596 Před 6 lety +5

      crashyburny MIT yes, this is also how I swing an axe. I have tried it the correct way, in which the dominant hand does the sliding, but its just so backwards to me, and I couldnt get used to it. Also, I think the power from the swing comes from the sliding hand, and my left (non dominant) arm is certainly much stronger than my right(dominant)

    *Innovative engineering.*
    From a conventional splitter head, most of the force stays up-and-down.
    With the new splitter head, it redirects most of the load sideways with those spring arms.
    You're using the same energy as before, but now you're applying it in the correct direction.

    Huh, with some durability enhancements on things such as the springs so it has a long life, it certainly seems like an effective ax to use, and honestly, they should bring it back. Maybe they could start off by contacting people who normally use axes to compare a standard to the Chopper 1 to show its used.

    You should get some wooden pallets and stack your wood piles on them instead of leaving them on the ground. Helps to dry them out quicker and they’ll stay dry because when they’re on the ground the bottom row soaks up the ground moisture. Just a suggestion!!

    These are extremely effective, we have one and use us to split Hickory and it only takes a few swings, I highly recommend them

    Fantastic. The blade isn't even touching the wood that much at all, basically saving the blade.

    Pretty cool, you should do a side by side comparison to a traditional ax to see the difference between performance.

    I know most of your audience has never actually chopped wood, but I have, and I noticed when I did that the shape of the axe pushes the wood aside as it is split without any need for moving parts. All you need is a sufficiently heavy axe and a sufficiently strong swing. Probably the reason they quit making those things you've got is that the gadgets are a redundant and expensive flourish.
