It has always been here. I worked in the Hanson’s Disease clinic in Louisiana. They used to have a Leper colony in Carville, LA. But because of medical advancements, it was closed, and is just a small area in one of the hospitals now. New cases are extremely rare, and it does not spread like the flu or covid. In fact, it is very hard to contract. In the entire history of the Carville colony, only one employee ever contracted leprosy. And he was an electrician that had no contact with any of the residents. None of the nurses, doctors, aides or kitchen staff ever got it.

It has always been here. I worked in the Hanson’s Disease clinic in Louisiana. They used to have a Leper colony in Carville, LA. But because of medical advancements, it was closed, and is just a small area in one of the hospitals now.
New cases are extremely rare, and it does not spread like the flu or covid. In fact, it is very hard to contract.
In the entire history of the Carville colony, only one employee ever contracted leprosy. And he was an electrician that had no contact with any of the residents. None of the nurses, doctors, aides or kitchen staff ever got it.
