    Don't be fooled. *Sprouting* plants is easy in most places; raising those plants to *fruiting* is hard. This video (and others like it) ignore the reality of the things plants actually need to grow to maturity and fruiting. Remember, if it were that easy, we wouldn't need farmers. Having said that, some of those sprouting ideas are cute and will work for things like Chia, sprouts, and maybe microgreens.

    • @snowleopard4890

      Common sense dictates reading up on the way to mature these plants. I’m sure that most of us can find a way to imitate the environment they need, or at least decide if it’s worth the trouble.

      We don't need farmers most of the time. If you plant a date a wait 7-10 years and it survives, it should start fruiting. We have lost the skill and patience to provide for ourselves.

    Ahahhaahahah the first hack does technically work, but that is NOT how rosemary (or any plant) grows! Generally plants grow from their top end. 🙃

  • @HTNPSullivan
    @HTNPSullivan Před 2 lety +35

    All these plants you see growing indoors and looking so lush, they either have to have a good grow-light pointed at them or be next to a window that gets bright light for most of the day. Some plants, like snakeplants, do OK without a lot of light, but most of the ones you're seeing in this video need lots of good light and the right mix of soils. And they need plates or something under them to keep water from ruining your furniture or carpeting. There's a lot more to growing plants than these quickie videos show, although some are good starting points. Just do your homework.

      I agree. As an experienced gardener we can see how completely obvious it is these videos are fake and won't work but to new gardeners it's giving them advice that will make them waste time and money. It may also discourage them from gardening again. I can only assume since they're so popular non gardeners watch them for enjoyment and not actual education because if they tried these hacks they'd quickly realize how ridiculous they truly are.

      Cut a thin slice with seeds in from a very ripe dragon fruit. Put whole slice into good compost/potting soil mix. Will germinate easily enough. Same with tomato, kiwi and other similarly seeded fruit or veg.

    • @ThePinkBinks
      @ThePinkBinks Před 2 lety +1

      The video is BS but I get germination in 24 hours and sprouts in 3 days with coco coir or half coir half compost. Have to cook the coir/compost mix first to sanitize then water gently and make the mix fluffy. Keep them in a mini greenhouse (a closed plastic bag or clingfilm on a tub or a plastic bottle made into a pot with lid) and leave them in there in moist growing medium (use distilled water) for a week. Then introduce a breeze. (You might need a breeze in 3 or 4 days because the growth is explosive so check on them.)
      Feel free to add a drop of peroxide to the water to soak the seeds first if you want to sanitize the seed hulls.
