I remember when this first came out, a lot of people (myself included) didn't like it. When Andrew WK played Ozzfest in 2002, there was a group of loyal fans but a WHOLE lot of haters in the crowd. I remember seeing a guy pick up a water bottle and chuck it at the stage, and actually hit the guitar player in the face. Dude kept playing like nothing had happened. When their set was over, the fans' cheers got drowned out by a chorus of boos, but Andrew still shouted out a heartfelt thank you to his fans.
I gained a lot of respect for the band that day, and while it was some time before I outgrew my childish opinion that they were "poser metal" as I used to call them, I'm actually a fan nowadays.

A buddy of mine, back in the days of Napster and cassettes still selling alongside CDs, burned a few songs onto CD for me, including We Want Fun and a demo version of Party Hard. Fell in love then, and then when I Get Wet came out and I first heard I Love NYC and She Is Beautiful, this style of high energy wall of noise rock was forever cemented as my preferred style of rock. Glad you opened up later.

My first experience with Andrew WK was some 19 years ago and I went in completely blind. I don't remember what band they were supporting but the buddy I went with just said "Trust me!". We dosed on MDMA and just as it started to kick in the band hit the stage. Needless to say, it was one of the most ecstatic and electric musical experiences I've ever had!
I went his gig in Japan nearly 20 years ago...it was really amazing. Girls on the frontline fell from lack of oxygen, boys got their throats withered, and only 3 songs after everyone died.
Then the band began playing Party Hard...and all corpses rose again and began to howl!!
I can't forget that scene forever.

Fun fact: the guy who played drums on this album and is in the video as well is none other than Donald Tardy from Obituary. Andrew is a HUGE fan of a lot of early 90s death metal like Deicide, Obituary, Morbid Angel, etc.
One of my favourite parts of the Andrew W.K. story. Andrew respected Donald's work a lot, worked up the nerve to call him and ask if he'd join his band, sent him a CD, and the rest is history

I think you hit the nail on the head. The incessant jump cuts give you a fraction of a second to see something before it's on to the next thing. It creates a really high energy level. The song itself is really only a minute and a half long and then it basically repeats itself. It makes me laugh every time I listen to it, and at this point that's dozens of times. I'm not making fun of it, but I think it's fun and funny the way they just turn a lot of pop/rock assumptions upside down and back again. Oh, and it's really nice the way the song provides its own subtitles in giant red background letters, just in case you miss the subtle nuances of the theme. LOL

Saw Andrew for the first time live a few years ago when he performed the "I GET WET" album in its entirety. I have never experienced anything like that since. It WAS just one giant party. The nicest crowd I've ever encountered. 3 guys showed up wearing banana costumes (because...well, WHY NOT?), and ANY TIME someone jumped on stage, Andrew would stop ask the person's name and get the crowd to chant their name. It was GLORIOUS.

I was in high school when he blew up. And I never paid attention. Suddenly I’m 37 and realizing the awesomeness of Andrew WK. Its not even the kind of music I normally like. I’m into lots of death metal and thrash. But I can totally appreciate this guy for being an original, one man party anthem rocker with his own sound. So much fun to listen to. I remember when this came out around late 2001, the world needed something fun and irreverent like Andrew WK and this was just what the doctor ordered. Sometimes you just gotta let loose and get rid of all pretensions and just party hard!!!!
In today's uncertain times, I appreciate this song's message of restraint and inclusivity. It's all right there in the opening line: "When it's time to party, we will party hard."
