- Los Angeles is known for having an excellent variety of ramen, and we tried it all. There’s everything from shio to Jiro to tsukemen, but only one can be declared the best. Joe and Sydney try four different ramen spots throughout LA to find the absolute best of the best ramen.
Editor's Note: The map at 1:38 incorrectly refers to the island of Kyushu, south of mainland Japan, as Kishū, which is now divided among the Wakayama Prefecture and the Mie Prefecture. Insider regrets the error.

Don't mind me, I'm just eating my instant ramen while watching this.

That crap is so bad. Especially after seeing real ramen like this.
Oh the irony...🤣🤣

It's odd. The hosts don't actually like each other. The occasional eye rolls are amusing.

Can someone give that guy a fork, please?! It's painful to watch him with his chopsticks.
Yes, but using chopsticks makes eating noodles way more enjoyable.
I was about to comment the same thing. I kept looking at his hand rather than the video itself. Maybe, I'm hoping, he'll improve with it. I am not good in using it either but the way he holds it 😱😱😱
Get rid of that guy
Let ppl enjoy the way that they wanted to enjoy their food and stop judging. You'll have an easier day that way.

"The louder you Slurp in Japan, the more you're enjoying your meal" I'm Japanese, this is absolutely wrong. Don't believe anything in this video.
the guy sounds like hes so proud that he doesnt know anything about ramen. could he at least sound like hes trying to learn and not be so ignorant
At least he admits he doesn't know. The girl thinks she knows but actually sounds pretentious. I'm a culinary student who has studied ramen.
yes a total idiot
It did make a real cool first time experience to see him enjoy with positive feed backs wich made it fresh to see. The girl didnt seem to really like ramen from the start wich was really more annoying.
Yeah yeah i know its ur culture shut the f up!
Am I hearing it wrong? She's saying "Tsukemen", right guys? But all I hear her repeat is "Skemen". Kinda sounds disgusting, lol.
The guy in the background at the tsukemen place, the big smile he has on his face after she says 'wow'... I can feel how proud he is...aww..
Tonkotsu = Pork Bone Broth, Tonkatsu = Pork Cutlet.....
Tone-coat-su vs tone-kah-tsu. Doesn't matter to her, she can't hear the difference. Bet if I started saying ray-men instead of rah-men, she would be the first to correct me.
It's pretty sad research for a food channel that she can't even pronounce it correctly...
I cringed every time they said that lol and I’m mexican
As soon as they pronounced it tonkatsu Vs tonkotsu, they lost all credibility with me… then she drops her egg into her ramen at Daikokuya. I’m like done with them
I've been craving ramen for almost two months now and this vid is pushing me to my limits!

Alex Taylor no doubt, plus it lets the noodles slurp up more flavor. ...y these guys white so hard

I was told by a fellow Japanese friend and teachers 10 years ago that it bad to do that with bowl of rice ... not ramen
Yes so disrespectful smh
Omg that is so disrespectful
One of the great advantages of living in a met like LA is having incredible restaurants. Thanks for the interesting reviews.
I used to live in Japan for 2 years and the closest flavor to authentic ramen so similar to Japan is Daikokuya Ramen in Little Tokyo. It's almost nostalgic. When I lived in Japan I gained 20 lbs. ramen because I ate so much of it. Also Daikokuya Ramen has the best gyoza and fried rice.
What do you think about the daikokuya in Sawtelle? I heard some like it better than the one in Little Tokyo.
i did not know they had one is Sawtelle but will definitely check it out. @@awesomenessrf1
Daikokuya was the first place I've ever eaten restaurant ramen so it's special to me. The extra fatty tonkotsu ramen with the chasu rice bowl is my favorite.
I'm glad there are new hosts 😊
Tsujita's Tsukemen is actually pretty amazing. I had it at both their locations, the other does a lighter fish/pork broth that was my favorite.
I love your food program guys. Great work.
About to go to 3 different ramen spots today, that’s how much I love ramen!!!!
Has anyone ever said you look like Ben Simmons
@@richieblack5530 lmao
When the manager of the restaurant has a hard time speaking English. Thats a good sign.
Not really. Are you saying Mexican chef who can speak perfect English is worse off than one who can not speak English?
I hope this comment was a joke
That mean he has no Time after work
If anyone isn’t from LA just know you should get to Tsujita AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE, avoid on Fridays & weekends unless if you want to wait over an hour. Santouka is fairly fast service because it is in a food court, and Daikokuya is good as well, but the wait can be long as well, but you can save a place in line on yelp ahead of time!
I thought the first one's served with whole egg with the shell in it.
ANGÉL TABOT that’s brown egg
@@thaddeuses2279 yah i know coz it's soaked on something, it was just my first reaction.
@@angeltabot3932 - Some places do serve the egg in the shell. In this case it's a soft-boiled egg marinated in leftover chashu pork marinade (soy, sake, mirin, seaweed) , or just soy sauce. The egg is cooked for 6:40 and immediately put in ice water. The perfect soft-boiled egg with a runny yolk.
same bro haha
Another day and another brilliant food video
What a time to be alive 😎
The LA ramen scene looks legit! Some of the featured ramen restaurants (Tatsunoya, Rakkan) are based in Japan and it's awesome to see them branching out due to demand!
It's very legit. LA has been serving ramen in the Japanese community since 1986 at Koraku. The oldest in the country.

love the LA stuff. Can you do Sacramento and San Fransico next?
Definitely informative. Thanks
wow I tried 2 out of these 4 locations without realizing they were the best top ramen places in LA. I heard the first one was really good plus it was near CSULA so it was really close to the school I used to go too. And I tried the 3rd one when my friend took me out for lunch for helping him with his work. Hopefully I get to try out those other 2 spots with my friend, I am looking forward to it :)
I've tried all 4 of these locations and I'll say props for picking 4 decently good ramen places in LA! I only wish instead of going to Okiboru for tsukemen, they would've gone to the original Tsujita LA Artisan Noodle (instead of Tsujita Annex) for their tsukemen which I feel like is bar none literally the best in LA. I personally wasn't impressed by Okiboru at all! But 100% agree with going to Daikokuya and Santouka. (Also cannot believe the guy said Santouka isn't too salty because it is SO SALTY but that's also why it's so good)
Haven't been to okiboru, but really didn't like the tsukemen at tsujita. waaaaay too fatty, and really one note flavor. Silverlake Ramen isn't the best ramen spot in town, but their tsukemen is delish.
@@iamsamjackson To each their own - I personally don't feel like the tsukemen at Tsujita is too fatty. Ramen broths to me should be fatty and rich, and especially in tsukemen so that the noodles are actually able to pick up the broth. I find that if the broth is not rich or thick enough, dunking my noodles in the broth doesn't amount to much and I might as well just order a regular ramen. I also don't feel that it is one note in flavor. It is one of the more unique ramen broths out there in my opinion. However, I've never had Silverlake ramen's tsukemen so I can't directly compare. Though I have had their classic ramen and was not impressed by the noodles or the broth so never returned though I used to live close by. Perhaps I will try their tsukemen if I'm back in the LA area.
I never went to the OG Tsujita, but I had the Tsujita Annex tonkotsu & tsukemen, and did not like either. Is the original place that different?
I should say I don't mind fatty and rich. I thought Tsujita Annex sucked because it actually lacked taste - just was salt and salt and salt. Maybe it was just the chefs that day. (I love ramen and have been to Tokyo 3x, but frankly I like SF Bay Area ramen over Tsujita Annex)
I had an American English teacher in Japan who always complained when students slurped their drinks during class. Japanese people slurp a lot, not just for noodles. He despised the sound very much. One day, a student told the teacher, "You just slurped." "What? No, I did not", "Yes, you did" He was in total denial but after a while he realized that he actually DID slurp when he drank his coffee. The teacher was in shock he could not teach for a while. We had a good laugh.
Excellent video btw!!
This one i trully miss in this pandemic, just going to a ramen shop and finishing a big bowl of spicy ramen with a cold drink after. 🧡
IMO the Glendale Chicken Ramen they serve at Tsujita in the Americana Mall is something to behold. It is absolutely the best ramen I have ever had.
All this food is making me soooo HUNGRYYY!! 🤤🙊🙈

I’ve had all of these and then some, my personal fav is santouka’s for the reason you guys noticed. It’s the most “composed” bowl. It all works together perfectly. Tsujita is mu second fav.
I tried ramen ones in Tokyo, but it had a soy base, and the noodles was thicker as well, it was very delicious.
I’m now eating in a ramen place, because if this video. Like jump out of my bed and walk to the shop ASAP after I saw it.
YESSSSSSSSSSS motivations XD
They all look so delicious
Gotta try these joints....them bowls looks delicious
Surprised they didn't try the tsukemen at Tsujita, that's one of the things they're known for. Glad it won out regardless.
I live in So Cal and went to Japan for vacation, the ramen in LA is the closest I've tasted to Japanese Ramen. It costs 4x the amount in LA though =(.
TATSU Ramen is amazing
God this video makes me hungry 😂
I'm just enjoying this while I eat my cup of noodles 🍜 😋
Same haha 😂
I've got a real soft spot for Sydney, she's wonderful to watch and listen to.
Same, she seems really smart and I love her tattoos.
@@Hazeydaze92 are you serious? she is acting like some kind of food veteran while in reality she doesn't know shit.
I went to daikokuya the week after i came back from japan. I was always curious about why there was always a long line. Friends and I finally decided to go. The pork does literally melt in your mouth. the ramen itself though, I felt something was missing. Maybe it was an off day or I had some really high expectations but the ramen isn't as great as it seems like everyone is saying. Friends and I also got the gyoza and takoyaki those were also delicious. Maybe I will go back and try the ramen again.
Yea the noodles are lackluster
Daikokuya or Shin Sen Gumi?
Get the one with extra fat 😋😋😋😋 It's so yummy!!!
ikkousha is better
Go to japan town in san Francisco to a place called “marufuku”
Its in a lil Japanese strip mall on the second floor
Gotta make reservations for sure
Ridiculous how balanced that bowl was
Slurpin’ Ramen Bar is my favorite so far, can’t wait to try some new places. Omg 🤤 😋
I love ramen it is one of my favourite foods!!
These two people: *exist*
Some ramen craftsman who struggled his/her whole life to put themselves in his/her bowls: Unacceptable
I would've chosen Santouka Ramen just cause it had such a simplicity yet goodness about it☺, and the bowls it came in really made it feel home like made to me. Only thing I would change is maybe the noodles, making them a little thicker. Now I wanna try some 😭❤
i go here every sunday, and it’s the best ramen i’ve ever had in my life
Did she just add a spoonful of minced daikon thinking it was garlic? LOL!
I've been to many ramen places in LA. Santuoka is my go to spot since it's my neighborhood. But Yamadaya and Tatsu ramen is where my friends and I go to after work.
Iki Ramen in K Town. One of the best bowls that I’ve had, and actually everything I’ve tried there is really delicious!
my feet tingled when the chopsticks were left standing in the bowl 😔💔

ive never had a traditionial ramnen and it looks soo good!!!
Watching this as i eat my instant ramen LMAOOO
He doesn’t know anything about food, I don’t understand why he’s a host and a judge.
On the bright side he's positive and positively describe a meal well without pretending to enjoy ramen like the girl. She gave a lot of negative comments.
Cant stand both of them
He eats food and obviously likes it. That's good enough.
I love the guy tbh. I love the banter he brings. But I don't like the Sydney Kramer woman. She's really off-putting
You don't have to be a boujee fan boy to appreciate food.
I like a good miso ramen myself. My favorite spot is always Kotoya in Palms. It’s a neat little spot and the bowls have always been good.
Im allways watching this kind of clips when im eating. Most Time i eat some vegetables, rice and chicken, so i like to watching some meals i cant eat right now :)
I have been to all of these restaurants. I also think you should do a Tsukemem
I ate the same exact ramen at the first location and it was very good. I wish they would serve their chasu warm instead of cold.
Daikokuya and Santouka tie for my favs. Daikokuya’s egg is my absolute fav. And the side salad is also great. Santoukas egg is over cooked for me but the pork and the broth of the salt ramen is amazing.
I've never been interested in going to a ramen eatery but now I want to!!!
I like in Japan for 12 years, I'm a Italian Chef and big foodie, love ramen! Tsukemen is not Ramen but a ramen like dish, Jiro Ramen is an experience but never considered the best ramen by and large here in Japan. But it was truly fun to watch nonetheless
Agreed
Ye Should be deported from Japan ASAP. You are a contaminant.
A small FYI, he's not saying Kishu, he's saying Kyushu. Kyushu is known for tonkotsu ramen (as it is supposedly originating from there)
I do love instant ramen but dang! I want all of these.
