You can think of commas like a pause, but the sentence is not stopped. This is a major oversimplification, but I think it gets the idea across.

I know how to use commas in the Slovak language but English rules are quite different. This causes much confusion 😄

Actually, "if (condition) ...[] else ...[]" seems to work fine :)
