This video actually meant so much to me, I always feel like I'm the only one who just doesn't like drinking or want to drink and i always feel like I'm literally the only person my age (I'm 17). This video just made me feel a little more normal and that its okay. I hate that I always have to justify why I'm not drinking. anyway, thank you so much

ARMY M.C It’s like that in the area of the UK that I’m from! It’s just so normal to drink excessively everyday. I’ve been told that I make people feel bad about their drinking by not drinking.... Fail to see how that’s my issue 😂 but I didn’t know that about South Korea!

I’m really proud of you for talking about this Ibz because it’s easy to be made ashamed of your past. I’m someone who knows I don’t want to drink or smoke ever, not solely for religion but because I honestly don’t see the point of either of them. However, it does make me feel like I may be socially isolated at uni because I don’t drink or smoke. I hope this video makes more people see that smoking and getting flat out drunk isn’t actually fun and helps them become more conscious of the side effects :)

i really liked hearing your story Ibz. i started drinking by 18, i got completely black out drunk and could not come home to my strict family. and that led to me moving out bc i couldn’t reconcile my lifestyle with their expectations. i really like your perspective of drinking culture, because when i’m drunk, i’m very happy, talkative, but i don’t like the fact that i black out a lot, and throw up a lot, and it makes me want to stop because i feel like i might get dependent on it. i’m mostly someone who is quite negative a lot (bc i have depression) and when i drink, i always feel happy. i know alcohol is a depressant but i feel so good and always have great conversations and encounters around people, i feel like i’m the best version of myself when i’m drunk, because i lose the barriers that normally stop me from being happy and open. but this video made me consider whether i can be that person without drinking . 💗

I honestly find this so reassuring. I don’t drink and never will (I’m 17) but whenever I tell someone in my year that they instantly judge me, think I’m no fun or a stuck-up goody-two-shoes. I just personally don’t want to drink because a close family member is a recovering alcoholic and I’ve witnessed the horrible consequences of alcoholism - I don’t ever want to be that. But it’s my personal choice and I have no problem with people that do drink. I just wish that it was okay to choose not to drink! I can still go out and have a laugh! I don’t understand why our society has this view that all teens have to drink to have fun :/ honey I’m fabulous even without vodka! ;)

Totally agree with your points, you don't have to drink or smoke at uni to be popular and there is more to uni than just those elements. No one is perfect, we are all on our journey and twitter akhs need to watch their own actions before they come after other fellow muslims for their "shortcomings". I have also not been smoking or drinking since coming to uni and I survived first year alhamdullilah. As long as you find your squad that respect your choices you are fine

such a cool video ibz !!!! the way you talk about religion is really positive and you show its a conscious personal choice and not about follow rules. scripture is often a good place to look for wisdom on the way to live your life- not as a rule book but as guidence maybe and like u said see how it coincides with your own experiences. alcohol isnt for everyone it sometimes just doesnt sit well and thats okay but out culture especially in UK doesnt really allow for that so its really cool to see u speaking up about cls itd important and NORMAL to make decisions on whats best for you and your body

Thank you Ibz. This was a really brave thing to do and I respect you for being so open about your experiences. I was personally worried about the drinking culture at uni before I started, but I was surrounded by people who didn't pressure me into drinking and respected my choices. I personally can have a great time in a club or at a bar or pub without drinking, I enjoy the atmosphere and the people so much more without drinking.
Although I have found societies that don't have drinking cultures (sporting societies are the worst for drinking cultures in my experience) and always offered non-drinking events. I did feel a little excluded with fresher events as at my uni there were hardly any non-drinking events which meant it took me longer to meet my friends.
However, for anyone who is worried about drinking culture, there are always people who don't drink due to personal choices or religious reasons and societies are a great way to meet others. You will find your people and make memories you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Inshallah ibrahim things work out for you and your relationship with Allah and the deen continues to strengthen. Youre a good person and i hope you find contentment in life. Youve addressed a taboo topic in our community. Drinking but esp smoking has become a very serious issue among the muslim youth. Inshallah this brings more awareness to the situation. Youve given an important reminder that things that are haraam are haraam for A REASON. May Allah grant you everything you wish in this life and the hereafter. May you be rewarded with Jannah.
Video recommendation: could you do a video talking about your journey to religion and your current beliefs? Talk about your journey back to Islam and trying to be a practicing muslim ie. Praying, fasting etc. ik its quite personal and your audience arent all muslims but I believe itll help many of our youth who will be able to relate to you. May you remain unapologetically Muslim and may you get ajr for these videos ❤️
Off topic but could ya also make a video about reconnecting with your pakistani roots or just growing to appreciate it in general. Alot of kids seem to be ashamed of their roots. Id just find your views very interesting 😊

D'you know what that's made me feel so much better honestly. I hate the idea of smoking anything anyways, but I do drink and I'm a little bit lucky I guess being a lightweight because it gives me the excuse not to have as much as everyone else. The idea of clubbing scares the hell out of me mostly because the idea of being that drunk in public and not being able to get home makes me die inside. I love going out and having a good time though so it's nice to have that reassurance. Cheers Ibz for bringing your sober seasoning

IBZ MASHALLAH MY BOI!!! God bless you, thank you so much for your story and your vulnerability, it’s an incredible marker of your bravery and kindness. Indeed, we are all on our own journeys and it’s no one’s place to judge you. I identify a lot because I also come from a Muslim background and have qualms about drinking/smoking (not just for my religion but also drugs scare the hell out of me) and starting uni soon seems like the most terrifying thing in the world....but this was so reassuring. Maybe it’s just hard to find people like me, but that’s because they’re hiding in the library?? I had the preconception that the only ways to have fun in university are those clubbing/drinking groups. Well, before watching this anyway. You’re so ICONIC and I would choose sober amazing Ibz over people falling over each other smashed at a party any day

muslim here and i think your story is admirable, i hate how some of us can be so judgmental when god knows that we go through our own struggles too. i could never judge another muslim for the choices they make because it is between them and god!

  • @zehraademmustafakilic9238

even if you had drinked and smoked before, we do not have the right to and should not judge you because no one is perfect and we all make mistakes and we should appreciate that you came clean and stopped doing those. people who belittle you and shame you for doing this should just STFU because no body is perfect beacuse we are human at the end of the day not angels. we do make mistakes and what matters the most is realising those mistakes.

I think you’re confused, bro. The outrage is most likely due to it being a sin to make your private sins public to everyone who doesn’t know.

This was relieving to watch as someone who doesn’t really drink (I say doesn’t really cause I will like have a drink with a meal or 1 or 2 to socialise but I won’t get drunk) cause I’m going to Durham and my friends there have said it’s a lot harder to make friends if you don’t drink and that scared me lmao I just hate the idea of being drunk? I’ll drink 1 or 2 drinks or drink with meals, but that’s it, i just hate the idea of losing control on myself or making myself sick because I’ve dealt with chronic illness so I don’t wanna f my body up lol

Thank you so much for making this video. When I went to uni last year I didn't drink and did have some people trying to pressure me to drink but alcohol doesn't go well with me, I don't get as bad symptoms as you but it just makes my tummy hurt and super bloated and definitely not lit lol so I prefer nights out without it. I'm going to a new uni this year and was debating if I should try drinking again but this video gave me the confidence boost I needed to just go with my gut and know that alcohol isn't required for a good time
