    Thanks to your tips Scott I was able to catch my PB yesterday of 9 pounds 2 ounces. I love your straight to the point, no nonsense approach of explaining a technique. A 1/2 ounce Strike King tour grade football jig in Candy craw color with a Berkeley maxscent meaty chunk in green pumpkin seems to be the ticket in my clear water reservoir. I used to hop a jig and pig off the bottom and fish too fast. Never caught many fish that way. With the slow drag approach that you recommend I have become successful. Keep up the fantastic work!

    I love how chill Scott is compared to most professional anglers. Guy's just like "This is a little double tailed trailer right here. Anything works real good."
    Is it green pumpkin and has wiggly waving appendages? Good enough for Scott Martin, good enough for me.

    I see you had a plastic crawdad tied on one of your rods, and your rod you were using in the video had a football jig with a plastic crawdad on. Whats the difference between a normal plastic crawfish and a plastic crawfish rigged on the back of a jig? Great Video!,

    • @dustinadkins6994
      @dustinadkins6994 Před 3 lety +1

      Maybe if fish are suspended for whatever reason they’ll eat the plastic craw Texas rigged on the fall. Kinda like a fluke. My best guess.

    hey scott, I was wondering, im looking to fish these football jigs this winter before the water ices over. the lake of choice is pretty much all silt or a mixture of silt and sand. am I able to still drag a football jig in that stuff? thanks

    • @sethjones3158
      @sethjones3158 Před 7 lety +2

      You wont have a lot of luck in silty mossy bottoms. The jig just digs into it which makes it hard to work correctly. Plus the bass wont go for it because they would be eating more mud than whatever you are imitating.

    I’ve been having a lot of trouble getting all of my lures to sink recently. I use Berkeley Vanish 100% fluorocarbon 12lb. My lake averages 8-12ft deep some spots getting 20-28ft. Both depths I’m having trouble getting lures to sink. Do I need a heavier line weight? Could it be that I’m using a cheap brand of fluorocarbon?

    • @thesurvivalguru
      @thesurvivalguru Před 6 lety

      Matthew ross Cheaper brands are of a larger diameter. Thus you loose sensitivity as well as well as having water resistance on the fall.

    • @ScottMartinChallenge

    What lake is that? I noticed you did your double fluke rig video there too. Also, Is a football jig useful in florida? All the lakes i fish have tons of grass and muddy bottoms. I struggle to find hard bottoms here

  • @eriksuarez7017
    @eriksuarez7017 Před 6 lety +1

    Just wondering why would you throw a 7ft heavy instead of a 7ft med heavy ?

    • @dustinadkins6994
      @dustinadkins6994 Před 3 lety

      Good question. I’ve always thought a fish will easily unload a heavy rod when it tail walks the surface. Also with a heavy 3/4 oz that’s a heavy weight the fish can throw side to side and sling the bait free. A medium heavy rod will help keep the fish pinned.

  • @hillbillybassfisherman8181

    football jig not really made to drag its made to be a rocker jig so you just use it like a shaky head you just let sit still an shake it

  • @hillbillybassfisherman8181

    when you drag a football head you stay hung up

    • @stephenjoans1102
      @stephenjoans1102 Před 5 lety +1

      You're gonna get hung up no matter what when fishing a jig. It's the inevitable. Scott Martin is a well respected pro angler. I believe the man knows what he's talking about and his record proves it.

    • @treyferguson7943
      @treyferguson7943 Před 4 lety

      No you don't. Depends on what your dragging in man. If your dragging rock, shell, pea gravel, stuff like that they work great, if your trying to drag through brush piles or something then yeah you might stay hung up alot. But I don't have much trouble with football jigs on Smith Mountain lake

  • @johnnymorris5089
    @johnnymorris5089 Před 4 lety

    Why so short of a rod? Most of the guys i know use a 7’4 or longer, including myself

    • @ScottMartinChallenge
      @ScottMartinChallenge  Před 4 lety +1

      You loose the “subtle” action you can put on the jig with short pulls or little hops.
