Pattaya to Phuket. 6 hours & 3580 Baht

- Time for a change of scenery. I booked my flight to Phuket Thailand with Bangkok AIr. The price was 2700 baht. The car to Pattaya U-Tapao Airport cost 700 baht and the mini van from Phuket Airport cost 180. Total trip time from door to door was 6 hours.
I checked out of Areca Lodge Hotel which i had stayed for the last month and checked into Baan Lamai Hotel in Patong Phuket.
They say change is as good as a holiday and it is good to get out of Pattaya. I needed a holiday from a holiday. Phuket is where i used to visit on family holidays with my Dad, his Wife and my 3 younger brothers many years ago and i have great memories from this place. It does feel good to be back where it all began.

Good hotel there in Soi Diana and very good location ! Pity we couldn't meet up. I drove by your hotel every day a couple of times :) . I stayed next to the baan Lamai also in Phuket. Merlin hotel it was. Quite an expensive taxi ride to the airport, mate ! For that amount i'm in Chiang Mai :)
Hi STT, All the taxi drivers wanted 800. I told them i can goto Bangkok for that. It's becasue they can't get a customer from U-Tapao back to Pattaya so they charge you for the drive back, haha Thai logic. How much did you pay from Pattaya to U-Tapao Airport? I paid 1100 ( $44 AUD ) to fly to Chiang Mai so not to far of the mark. Sometimes its not about the money. It's about style. I stayed at Patong Merlin in 2006, good hotel. Regards DF.

I see that you stayed at Areca Lodge in Pattaya! Good spot. Good value for money, and it's in smack middle of Walking Street and Soi 6, and you have LK metro just outside the hotel. :D
Hi GBL, Yes Areca Lodge is a good hotel. At one stage i was bragging it was the greatest value for money hotel in the world. The AUD was high at about 30, it was low season and it worked out at about $44 per night. If someone can show me a better hotel for that price anywhere in the world i would like to see it. Right now if i was to stay there it would cost me $65. 👍

I think Baan Lamai Hotel got the most beautiful swimming pool in Patong area. It is also just few steps to Patong beach. Everything is so convenient. Just too bad that its restaurant and night entertainment had gone South, It was once the a very busy singing-dining eatery.

I know the place. Alot of our friends stayed there in 2012 for my cousins wedding. I was out the back somewhere paying 500 baht per night.

I had the pool room, cost like 5.000 baht
I done this a few years back and when I got to Phuket I realised i'd lost my visa card in pattaya the night befor. but it only took them 4 days to send me a new 1 wich was pretty good I thought .

I ate alot at Loaf Bakery on Soi Lengkee. The Chicken Cutlets @ 195 Baht and Lasagne @ 265 Baht, Pizza wasnt to bad, but a little overpriced IMO.

I found everything in Phuket to be 30-50% more than Pattaya, you?

not really, I would say that patts and patong have the same prices, I visited patong about 3 times already and never been quoted the crazy prices that happens in patts with gg,bb,or fls, if you stay away from tuktuks in patong you'll be fine, rent a car if you don't like to pay 300B for a 5 minute ride,that's what I do.
+YOZOY YOZOY never rent a car in thailand....yes phuket is expensive than bangkok and pattaya...pad thai is 35 baht in khaosan and 75 baht in patong ....

Just want to know how it took you 6hrs from Pattaya to Phuket when it takes me 45-1hr max to go from Bangkok to Phuket when Pattaya is way closer to Phuket then Bangkok.Your time lines are a bit misleading

Every time I fly to Phuket the dick brain drivers always pull in to a travel agency where they try to sell you tours and hotel rooms. It happens no matter if you take a taxi or mini bus to Patong..if the mini van is filled with people you can be stuck there for an hour or more. I guess if you take a taxi and " pay" driver not to take you to travel agency you can save some time. I hate to be negative on Thailand, but if there's anything that pisses me off, this would be it. Otherwise, I love Thailand and I hope this didn't happen to you DF
Hi mate, On this trip he pulled into soem place and they asked us all our hotels we were staying. After about 5 minutes we were back in the van and on our way to Patong. Maybe becasue we all had hotels booked they couldnt sell us anything. Regards DF

Dead Farang Were men not chicks door to door enjoy Kata Noi is better then Kata and Karon and it’s about 3-5 min if you got a bike not many people k ow about it so that why it’s way better and cause the heads to the beach are smaller you don’t get waves and just nicer
