    6-7 weeks ago these pundits were talking Carlton up and now they are talking Hawthorn up. Its a war of attrition, Hawthorn and Port seem to be the two healthiest teams at the moment.
    But it only takes a few injuries and it all turns around for the worse.
    You cant pick this season, last man standing will win it.

    Starts with the board and senior supporters. Everyone burnishing their ego through involvement with the might of Essendon (or Carlton), nobody willing to recognise football merit > corporate cachet. Clubs that win have boards of skilled persons giving back to the community. Clubs that are garbage have boards of people using the club brand for themselves.

    • @lucaseric8679
      @lucaseric8679 Před 29 dny +1

      I hear this often about Essendon, them having an Old incompetent board who doesn't like change.
      What are some of the things they have done you disagree with?
      Not arguing your point, just curious what these old board members are stuffing up.

    • @gustaaf1892
      @gustaaf1892 Před 29 dny +4

      What? Hawthorn is winning, but how are they giving back to the community? They made a huge amount of money out of poker machines that destroy communities. Geelong is winning, but they scammed $260m out of the government for their home ground which surely could have been better utilised for community benefit. Even got another $4m for a bloody scoreboard upgrade. Football club boards almost always look for opportunities to do best for their club without giving a stuff about the community.

    As an Essendon supporter trying to see any positives from the year I tend to agree with hodgey.
    Both games against Gold Coast, the Carlton loss and the most recent Adelaide loss we kicked ourselves out of it. Imagine had we won those games or even 3 out of those 4 and wed be looking at Essendon very differently.
    We also played our hearts out against Freo eho eas a top 4 side at the time. Plus great wins against the doggies and GWS.
    We have clear gaps in our list and obviously there is some mental gymnastics our olayers go through from week to week.
    But do i think we are in a better position this year than mast year? Yeah absolutely.
    When you look at the Hawks, theyve had recent success (a lot of it) comparative to us. I think things were much worse than we realised that 1.5 years cant undo 20 years of failure.

    I think fatigue and injuries is a sign of seasons more demanding and equalised is overwhelming AFL players physically and mentally. There has been a list of teams that have played a purple patch of form and crash and burn of successive losses. Brisbane, Sydney, Carlton and GWS are good examples, even West Coast all be it 5 week patch not 10 because there in a rebuild, but they almost won 4 out 5 before a 99 point whacking from Adelaide and Sydney who won 10 straight just crawled over the line against Collingwood to avoid 6 losses from their last 7 games.
