- Paper beads - do you like making them? Are you ready to make 'paper' beads from a much stronger material but still make the beads the same way as you make paper beads?
This tutorial will introduce you to Tyvek, a very durable, water resistant material that you may not know about unless you are a seasoned crafter.
Paper beads are fantastic of course but these beads go a step further because Tyvek is much more versatile than paper.
The finish you can get with Tyvek beads is really beautiful.
In this video I show you how I create my Tyvek painted papers and how I get the effect you see in the picture.
Tyvek looks and feels like paper, you could even call it synthetic paper. Some of the beads I have made from it really do look like paper beads but they are way more durable because Tyvek is tough.
I did quite a lot of painted designs for this tutorial and I am giving them all away as free printables on my website.
I'm hoping that when you see this video, you will want to get some Tyvek and have a go at making Tyvek beads yourself.
But if you just want to make paper beads instead, you can download my painted Tyvek images, print them off and make regular paper beads.
I've even printed paper bead strips guide lines on some of them so you can cut the strips out more easily.
You can get them here:

Crafting is very therapeutic
You are right about that! I'm not sure what I would do without it and I am sure most crafters feel that way. Thank you for watching and reaching out.🙏
Bonjour,
Thank you so much for sharing your genius work with us. You are amazing!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching - it is much appreciated and I do apologise for my late response. 💕
These are gorgeous! Does the paper put off an odor when melting? I have to be careful due to lung disease. Thanks!
Hi Amychelle, thank you and really sorry to hear you have a lung disease. That’s a good question. I didn’t notice a strong odour given off BUT, as I always wear a mask and have good ventilation when I do anything involving even the remotest chance of fumes, I probably wouldn’t have noticed any odour. With most art and craft, for me, wearing a mask and having windows open is just a part of good health and safety practice. Even if you can’t detect any fumes, it doesn’t mean there aren’t any harmful residues in the air so I always go on the assumption that there are. Even when i use alcohol markers like Sharpies, I wear a mask and have windows open. Soft pastels are another medium that require a mask and protective rubber gloves at all times because of the fine, floating dust they give off. Most crafts have some kind of odour, residue, dust or tiny fibres/particles involved and masks should always be a standard part of our practice. Thank you for your question, it is an important one and I hope crafters are being responsible for their own health and safety while doing any kind of art/craft activity. Take care. 💕🙏
Alcohol ink also works brilliantly on tyvek!
Hi Rachel, yes it does, they are perfectly suited aren’t they. Thanks so much for watching and taking time to comment. 🙏💕
Hello, you are a Genius!! These beads do look just like fabric. I Love this idea. Thank you for sharing it with us. Thank you one thousand times over for everything you share with us for Free. This is so generous of you!! I pray your mom continues to feel better. Big Hugs, 🤗😊❤
PS, when you started to heat up the Tyvek and said you couldn't do this with paper, well you could but you'd probably set fire to the house, I started LOL so hard that I had to pause the video. Thanks for the Laugh. 🤣🤣
Hi there, thanks for that. It's very kind of you to say I'm a genius, but I didn't invent this technique, it's been around for a very long time - I'm no Einstein! 😂 And you are so welcome to the printables, it gives me a reason to create and I love sharing them with people who appreciate it. My mum is ok thank you - lots of little ups and downs but that's how things are at 93 I guess - thank you so much for thinking of her - I will tell her - she really will appreciate knowing someone is parying for her thousands of miles away. You are very kind. There are more free printables coming tonight (Oct 16th 2021) at 8.30 London time. Hugs to you too across the miles. 🥰🙏
Now you've made me laugh!!!! It's just the kind of thing I would do if I had 10 less brain cells😂 I almost set fire to my kitchen trying to crisp some soft rice cakes in the toaster! Thanks for watching - always appreciated.🙏💕
@@RainbowLane Sounds just like something I would do. 😉
@@RainbowLane Yes, ups and downs sound exactly right for your mum of 93. What is her name? Let her know she is in my thoughts & prayers. If you would, give her a Great Big Hug from me. This comes with lots of Love, Hugs & Prayers, Debbie :)
These are so amazing!! I’ve recently been dabbling in gelli printing so stumbling across your channel yesterday and finding this craft has my heart racing! Can’t wait to make them.Thank you for sharing your talents and for your generosity. 💕
Hi Rebecca, I know exactly what you mean when you say it has your heart racing! I get like that when I get new paints and I can’t wait to get home to see what they will do. That’s what I love about creativity, it really is so exciting and it’s so good to hear from other people who have that passion for creating. . You’ll probably be interested in my next video too, so keep a look out - I’m hoping it will be up on Saturday if nothing happens to hold me up 🤞🤞🤞😍Thank you so much for watching and sharing your enthusiasm here. 🙏💕
I’d say tell me more about what’s coming but I love surprises! 😊 I’ll be on the lookout!
😉
Stunning! I just love these! Your creativity is outdone only by your generosity. I have kept a couple of tyvek envelopes over the last few years and now I know just what to do with them. As you were transforming the beads with the heat gun I imagined making round beads and how cool they will also turn out. Thank you for another terrific tutorial and for the gorgeous painted printables! I am pleased that things are going better with your lovely mother. Enjoy the rest of your weekend Gilly. Love from the Intermountain West, USA.
Thank you Chalane 🙏 . It’s always good to know people are liking having my free printables. Creating them is good for me too because it gives me a positive focus on days when everything feels a little overwhelming. It also gives me an excuse to buy more paint😍. That’s a good idea you’ve had - round ones would look lovely with the distortion from heating. Have a lovely day and enjoy your crafting. Thank you again for watching and taking time to reach out. It’s always very much appreciated. 💝
Beautiful. Ty
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching 🙏💕
Hey 👋 those are some beautiful beads. On my way to look for the paper. Thanks 🙂
Thanks Denise. Glad you like them - hope you found some Tyvek! You’ll love the results! Thank you for watching - always appreciated. 🙏💕
cc de france trés jolie modéle j adore comme tout vos progés un grand merci
Merci Christine🙏. Je suis content qu'ils vous plaisent. Je t'envoie de bons vœux de l'autre côté de la Manche.💕
Hello what kind of printer do you use, I think I need a new one?
Hi Kelly, I use an Epson Eco Tank printer - it’s the 2750 model. The ink lasts absolutely ages - way better than printers with the individual ink cartridges. 🤗 Thanks for watching. 🙏
Oh wow who would have thought that Tyvek would make such beautiful beads……well you of course 🤩. The crinkled ones look like fabric. I bought Tyvek sheets years ago when I was into paper crafts but never got around to using it…..wonder where I put it. Many thanks for another inspirational tutorial. 🥰🫶
Hi Chris thank you for your lovely comment. It made me laugh when you said ‘wonder where I put it’ - that’s me too!!!!!! I spend so much time searching for stuff I bought ages ago but can’t find. Apparently, those disposable white suits you can buy in diy stores, to wear over your clothes when decorating, are made of Tyvek. It might be a cheaper way to buy it because I don’t think those suits are expensive. But maybe you’ll find the sheets you bought😍Thanks so much for watching and reaching out. Happy crafting! 🙏💕
@@RainbowLane Going to B&Q tomorrow looking for the Tyvek suits and to see what types of wood hardener are available. Will let you know if I find something suitable xx
Oh brilliant - you are U.K. based too then? That stuff you told me about is on Amazon - quite expensive but I imagine would go a long way. Good luck with the suits. Let me know how you get on. x
@@RainbowLane B&Q don’t sell Tyvek but there are lots online ( Google ) selling from around £5 although you have to pay postage. If you bought 2 or 3 size 3XL I think it would still be cheaper than buying the Tyvek sheets.
Yes, I’m sure you are right because Tyvek sheets are pretty expensive. Thanks for letting me know. Imagine all the beads you could get out of one suit! 🤗😘😘
These beads look FABULOUS!!! I have the iridescent paint and some Tyvek envelopes. They ate FedExp so have printing on them. But I will start by using white paint to cover printing. Then add colors.
I'm wondering if I can use Alcohol Inks on Tyvek too??? I think its non-porous. I'm going to try it. Can hurt to test a small spot. I love making paper beads. But the way you melt the beads it looks so cool. Definitely going to do this. Thx for free papers. And for video. Austin,TX USA
Hi Barbara, sounds as if you are really getting into this - I’m sure you are having fun! Yes, you can use alcohol ink on Tyvek, just be careful if you heat gun it a) because of fumes and b)alcohol ink is flammable I believe. I’m so pleased you are enjoying what you are doing - so important in these turbulent times. Thank you for watching and reaching out. 🙏💕
@@RainbowLane Thx. I will be careful with alcohol ink. It's always so exciting to learn new techniques and/or supplies. This covid mess would be much worse if I didn't have my arts & crafts & needlework. For sure!
It looks like parchment paper
Hi Debi, Yes it does a bit but it’s delicacy is an illusion - it’s very strong. Thanks for watching - much appreciated. 🙏💕
