    Shoutout to Nerve End - y’all sound killer!
    Great critiques, especially at the end: Learning note placement is crucial in jazz musicking and it’s one of the most universally-applicable things one can learn from studying that music. Studying temporally and grammatically sensitive music forces us to deepen our understanding how musical structures can emerge from the circumstances and consequences of the moment. To that end, I really like how proprioception really underscores a lot of your critiques: heightening the sense of yourself in the musical moment brings you closer to the music and musicking.

      @digitalambience6993 Před 4 lety +36

      Not to diminish the awesomeness of Adam's skills (an impossible task only the ignorant would seek to accomplish), but it's less mysterious than you think. A Bb7 would have sounded way different based on the key center established in the song as the Bb7 is not even in the key. You would have noticed it too if she would have played a B7 because it would have sounded "wrong" if another chord wasn't played directly after it bringing us back into the key. He has it so ingrained through so much practice and study and play that the F#-7 is the fifth of B7. That relationship is so common. It's kinda like this: You would know in a heartbeat if someone said they know their ABCs and then said "A, B, C, V..." You'd be like "nope, that V is a D my friend."

    • @joegridl
      @joegridl Před 4 lety +13

      That is called practice and routine (that comes with practice). Beeing "gifted" means your're lucky and maybe you have a 5% easier start. But when it comes to mastering an instrument (or anything else) everything that counts is PRACTICE. ;)
      So if you practiced hearing that chord for 4 hours, you practiced 4 hours. Adam needs 2 seconds, great. But today he practiced only 2 seconds hearing this chord. And you did for 4 hours. So now YOU are the hero of the day! ;)

      @EccentricFanboy Před 4 lety +2

      All art is in contrasts. Art is all about patterns and is based on our innate pattern-recognition ability; art sets patterns and then breaks them in contrast. We understand the world around us by comparing what we know/what we saw to what we see; we see in relation. Even drone music (or those contemporary paintings that are just one color) work by subverting your expectations and/or pointing your attention to minute changes in the piece.

    Understand is one word that comes to mind. Understand what u can do at the moment and do that while working towards the things you wanna do that are still a bit out of reach. You cant play without an understanding for why you play the way you do record yourself and here yourself critique yourself enhance yourself and make good change. Music is like a heart monitor even when the monitor flatlines theres still music going on without the monitor picking up signs. Internal musicality away from booths and a microphone or audio interface. People singing in there house who have no idea what music theory is but can sing nonetheless. The birds outside our windows chirping tunes and countless wildlife rustling amongst the bushes and leaves making their own rhythms. Understand that music is everywhere and just about any thing can serve some musical purpose if left to people who can divulge and entertain those ideas. I really enjoy seeing Adam critique it is informational too!
