I had to do the dark mission in this stage. Hearing Eggman so innocently excited about his super fun theme park made me feel bad for him. This place is one of his less dangerous inventions.
You're saying that like they're mutually exclusive, and like we haven't seen casino levels or this side of Eggman in Sonic games before. It's almost like, this is still a Sonic game despite the slightly more gritty tone it has.

@@NoNamex1412 not really. Think about it, forces’ missions are smaller, so there are less rings. Furthermore, on the normal, America’s hard, mode, if you are hit, your rings drop to zero, while in shadow, you only lose ten.
My head canon is that is Cream the Rabbit’s hero mission stage, not Tail’s. It’s Cheese’s birthday, and Cream wants to win a Chao toy for Cheese, but she can’t beat any of the carnival games (which Eggman clearly has them rigged, though in her innocence and naïveté, she can’t see that she’s being tricked by Eggman to squander all her money. She begs Shadow to help her win a prize for Cheese. If the player chooses hero mission, then Shadow will win all the carnival games by force (by finding an exploit in the carnival game’s mechanics or straight up just breaking them). Eventually, when the player gets 400 rings the hero mission is completed. (Shadow wins the carnival’s grand prize - the Chaos emerald. Cheese gets the consolation prize, a Chao toy, and the 400 rings are returned to Cream (her lost allowance that was grossly stolen from her by Eggman).
Eggman: Get rid of those GUN soldiers! Shadow: The Emerald must've fallen somewhere nearby. Cream: Help me win Cheese's gift! Ideas for dialogue: Encounter: Oh, Mr. Shadow! I need your help! It's Cheese's birthday, and I want to get this amazing Chao toy prize, but I can't beat any of the games for it! Could you help me win that prize, Mr. Shadow? I love how the game is heavily marketed as a dark, gritty and violent game filled with guns and mild cursing and then you get stages like this one. The 2000s was certainly a... Strange era for the Sonic franchise.
So for all of you classical musicians out there, this piece has a LOT of uses of a motif from the piece “entry of the gladiators” For non musicians, that one piece that is always stereotypically played in cartoons, film and tv for a circus. Long story short, this is circus music at its finest

This level is cool, i like the rings gimmick and since the game only takes away 10 rings away from you when you get hurt makes it fair, unless you are going to complete the dark mission, there is a lot of fun in this stage (i can't believe it's an actual good mission)
One time when I was a kid messing around with action replay and used the infinite ring code. I forgot what this level was and accidentally went for a mission that lead to this level. Shadow summed it up best when he immediately went "damn, not here" the second the loading screen ended. It was cleared with a zero time, but it just kept playing the result screen over and over in a black void. No tails. Just shadow getting the emerald saying the same a rank A quote over and over.

This was the only Expert Mode level that gave me trouble. That DAMN jumping section near the end with the moving platforms and the 2 flame rings after the rope grinding made me game over on my first try.
unlike most other sonic games, i didnt find this game's soundtrack to be very memorable..... even though i played this game to it's literal death as a kid, I cant remember the music. only a few like digital circuit , this one, and westopolis.. and i am all of me of course. but... thats it...

The world is a dark place, it has deaths, blood and violence, but it also has carnivals and colorful theme parks, so it's fair.

This level is a nice throwback to Casino Night from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Circus Park should have ended with an Egg Breaker boss that balances on a big ball like the ones in the level.
