    The one thing I don't like about their model is the fact that 1.x users don't get that much value from updating to 2.0. Imho it would've been better to pay for 2.0 and get all 2.x updates and then whenever they feel like it's worth another update, release 3.0 and sell a license that includes all 3.x updates

    • @madameberry
      @madameberry  Před rokem +3

      YES. That model is pretty much the standard for everything else. Another comment said that the way CSP updates is just how it's done in Japan? I don't know enough about that, but maybe it's just done differently.

    Thanks for this video.
    After all the miscommunication flustercuck sort of cooled down and things became kind of clearer, I was finally tempted to go 2.0 and see what's what, and also simply to support a honestly awesome piece of software that helped me quite a bit.
    But now, them trying to sneak in new restrictions like that pissed me off all over again. The limitations on the second device especially is a deal breaker for me. I use the dual license thing a lot, and I live in a third world country where 100 US bucks worth of licenses for a program that I use from time to time as a secondary income crutch is A LOT.
    If push comes to shove, I'll gladly go back to piracy, and fuck this noise. And that pisses me off, because dog knows I tried hard to play by the rules.

    I bought 2.0 for life after having a 1.0 subscription. The features it provides are good enough and I don't need much more. $50 for the lifetime. And like you said, the subscriptions are not too expensive.
    CSP definitely did a horrendous job communicating, plus I still their their subscription vs. license is needlessly complicated. Either way: People definitely blew it out of proportion. CSP wasn't going to live forever by honoring $20 licenses 10+ years later.

    • @madameberry
      @madameberry  Před rokem +5

      Yeah, I understand why they went this route. At the very least, paid version upgrades (1.0 to 2.0 to 3.0 etc) are pretty standard.

      So I had no idea about the chaos online, I bought the app for 50, used it a bit, then thought will come back. I use it on my laptop, as of now I am find only having it on that device. If i professional enough to need it on my iPad, i may pay that amount. I think it’s valid for companies to charge for updates. And technically 2.0 is more than enough for me. I bought 1.0, and they let me upgrade to 2.0, i do not need any new upgrades, 3d , animation, multi pages etc. i just been basic drawing and painting features.
      People who need advance features are probably way more advance and earning an income from this

    For now, I will keep using it, although I won't say I trust them and I will try out and consider switching to alternatives.

    I started my Clip Studio journey with 2.0 of the EX version on the black Friday sale, and I haven't noticed any issues. The price for the perpetual license was very reasonable, and I'll get version 3.0 for free when it is released in 2024. That's at least the promise. I would love to see a perpetual iPad Pro license, but I also get (being a developer myself) that such a big application needs some recurring revenue to feed the people behind it. It is the common issue of rising prices. If Clip Studio 1 had started with a single PC license and an online mode, nobody would care if version 2.0 had done the same.
    However, I wouldn't say I like the information strategy, especially in Germany. The website needs to look better, more organized, and more professional. Some real geeks without sales and PR knowledge are doing the distribution work. It looks like a student project hacked together within a few hours.

    Version 1 does pretty much anything I would want to do and there aren't enough new features offered on 2.0 for me to justify the cost all over again just for those features. When you combine that fact with all of the shenanigans they've pulled over the last year --- no chance they get more of my money.

    Definitely not the type of company practice I would like to support. Restrictive, opaque and hostile. Ditched adobe for their tactics and not about to jump over to another smaller company already starting to show similar signs. Even if its "the best" I'll choose a lesser program rather than comply to corporate greed. Thanks for the informative video.

    I’m actually really happy to see what they’ve done as of late. A more expensive perpetual license is the way to go. If you have someone that doesn’t know how long they’ll be using it, then offering a subscription model is available. 10/30 bucks per year is great. If you intend on using this for more than 5 years, GET THE INCENSED VERSION. I do agree that the prior decisions were at best unclear and ill thought out. Hopefully the current model will serve their company well with making profit. They will need to keep things the way they are in order to rebuild trust.

    CSP is made by a Japanese company, which adds a whole new level of confusion. Japanese users have been more accepting of CSP's changes because CSP is a professional tool, they understand them better, and this current way they've been doing things has been how it's done in Japan for a while now before the worldwide changes.
    I feel like this kind of stuff wouldn't have been this complicated if they did a comb over with someone outside the Japanese market.

    I can't afford a subscription that will be without a doubt extremely expensive in my country because Celsys only sells stuff with the "main" currencies, so if an obligatory subscription is put in place I sure hope Krita managed to make their text editor something that's usable by then.

      Check and see if they'll upgrade you to 3.0 for free if you buy it now, or if that deal expired already. • @AshWeststar
      @AshWeststar Před 5 měsíci +1

      I have no problem with paying a license fee. I just think it's misleading to say, "hey, here's a perpetual license of CSP", without clearly clarifying exactly what that means when you go against the software industry norms, where if you buy a particular version of a product, you get the updates for that major version too.
      Well, not in the case of CSP. You need to get further a update subscription. If you cancel that subscription, you don't get to keep the updates you received and revert back to the perpetual licensed version -- worst part is that you continue paying the update pass subscription to keep the updates even when they no longer produce updates for a particular version.
      It really feels like their perpetual license model is intentionally misleading and feels like it's taking advantage of people where they fall into a sunk cost fallacy.
