  • Storm Isha Causes Chaos in the UK: Thousands Without Power and Disrupted Transportation
Storm Isha has wreaked havoc in the United Kingdom, causing widespread chaos and disruption. What sets this storm apart is that the amber and yellow warnings cover the entire country, whereas usually they are more localized. The wind speeds have been recorded at astonishing levels, with gusts reaching up to 107 miles per hour at Tay Bridge near Dundee. Northumberland experienced gusts of 99 miles per hour, while Caernarfon in North Wales saw winds of 90 miles per hour. The Needles in the Isle of Wight, located on the south coast, recorded gusts of 86 miles per hour.
The aftermath of Storm Isha has left thousands of homes without power across the country. The island of Ireland has been hit the hardest, with around 200,000 homes experiencing power outages. Northern Ireland had 45,000 homes and businesses without power at dawn, while Scotland reported 50,000 homes initially, with some already regaining power. Additionally, over 10,000 homes in Northern England lost power overnight. The heavy rain that accompanied the storm, combined with the melting snow from the previous week, has resulted in numerous flood warnings. Scotland has 50 flood warnings, England has 30, and Wales has 5.
Transportation has been severely affected by the storm, with train services experiencing significant disruptions. In Scotland, no trains were running in the morning, and efforts are being made to restore services. Northern England faced similar issues, with no trains running north of Newcastle in the morning, and severe delays expected throughout the day. The Humber Bridge has been closed to high-sided vehicles, and roads in southwest England have also been impacted. Social media has been flooded with videos showing the extent of the storm's impact, including a greenhouse blown onto railway tracks and treacherous conditions along harbors and coastlines.

In 1987 within 2 miles of where I lived there was a ship blown onto the beach, a church bell tower blown down, flying greenhouses and shed roofs all through the night, trees blown down everywhere and my mates Capri was crushed under a tree … and we all still got to work on time. Now that was a storm!

Problem with people like yourself, you see EVs as a woke ideology, me I'm actually a conservative who likes to save as much of my money as I can , I also understand the basic physics of cars and that fossil fuel cars waste around 70% of energy in heat and noise , whereas EVs are around 90% efficient, I'm also wise enough to know EVs aren't perfect ( battery density still needs to improve) but for my usage they are far more reliable, relaxing to drive as well as very, very cheap to run .

@@lyndoncmp5751That's about right. I was wearing a t-shirt in the garden a couple of weeks ago, it was so warm; and it's been like this for every winter for the past few years.
Last week, I said to my husband - that this actually feels like winter weather. Then overnight it went up 7C. Incredible temperature jump. Would never have seen a jump like that in winter, in January, when I was a kid.
What is disturbing is the number of people who insist this is in some way normal.
It's obviously fear or selfishness (in that people don't want to cut back on their habits that make up their personal impact), so they generate a sort of selective memory to try and dismiss scenes that we all see and cannot deny on the video.

Totally agree with you. On the rare occasions that we actually get frost in winter now, nevermind the even rarer snow, I love it. As an avid hiker the wet muddy mild weather lasts from November to April, with not much winter in between. It's nice to walk on hard frosty ground instead of slipping in mud. There was a few days in late November, then last week. That's it so far.
Christmas was very mild wasn't it.
As you say, it's becoming the norm now. Our seasons are up the creek. And still people deny it. They just bury their heads in the sand. From personal experience the people who deny it are the same ones who don't care about the environment, don't bother to recycle, waste energy etc. There is definitely a correlation.
      Cheers.

It was overrated , I live near Bracknell nothing happened here and ive got 3 big 100ft redwood trees literally outside my apartment nothing happened , it was only 60mph wind at most , so ridiculous Brits are , i used to live in the states , try living in Kansas and experiencing a 200 mph F5 Tornado that is a real storm and it happened like every few weeks

I am so angry at the stupidity of that cyclist... Can you not take your life a bit serious? After all the warning.... People will reply saying I don't know the situation he was in.... but the warning were there. if he has to go somewhere then take public transport at least you will be a bit safer. Then they blame weather. and praise how dedicated he was....

I said exact same thing to neighbour this morning, she did take him on her car. It was unprecedented weather… better safe than sorry. Prevention is better than cure. I would not put my son in front of a vehicle driving at 100mph… why would this be any different?

This is almost like the partygate issue.
The fact that a cyclist is next to the sea front doesn't mean that he's being dangerous or irresponsible....it simply means that the winds weren't actually as bad as the media made out.
Same as the politicians partying didn't mean they were taking a huge health risk....it meant they knew there was no risk
