- The Emergency Service Unit (ESU) is part of the Special Operations Bureau of the New York City Police Department. The unit provides specialized support and advanced equipment to other NYPD units. Members of ESU are cross-trained in multiple disciplines for police, first aid, and rescue work.
ESU is always on patrol (all three tours, 365 days a year) with 10 Heavy Rescue trucks, each ordinarily manned by a police officer and a sergeant, and often more than twice as many smaller Radio Emergency Patrol vehicles containing two ESU police officers. There are also two or more citywide patrol sergeants or lieutenants in unmarked vehicles on duty at all times to supervise ESU operations where needed. These are called "U-Cars" on the NYPD radio, for example, "U-5".

@@meikelinde1623 looked around and there is a channel named Juan Carlos that has uploaded the full videos of the various stages, both men and women's divisions. Apart from the Chilean women messing it up, the rest of the women's teams did a commendable job. The Belarusian ministry of internal affairs team cleared this course in 4:06 minutes and the Dubai police cleared it in 4:10 minutes. Fair play to them as they have to do the same obstacles as the men including carrying the same weighted items.

SWAT teams usually end up just for show in other countries since problems are either handled by the police or it goes straight to the military. At least in mine, that's the case. I remember a case in ours where a "SWAT" team took a whole fucking day to resolve a hostage situation and they almost ended up killing the hostages themselves. US SWAT gets called out in almost every situation regardless of scale, it can be a mass shooting or an escalated argument. It's because on average, a US citizen has, like, 100x more guns than every other country's citizens. I've never even seen a gun in person that's not owned by law enforcement or the military.

I remember after 9/11, I called in a suspicious suit case with a contraption tied to it in Manhattan. I stayed behind cover and kept my distance until an ESU Truck pulls up and the driver with salt & pepper hair exits and walks over. I told him I called it in and he pulls a leatherman tool/blade of which prompted me to whisk my way back to cover. And I watched him rip into the suit case without a care. Inside there were a bunch of rags and he simply tossed it to the side and climbed back in his truck and drove off.

Maybe so, but this NYPD team wasn’t very diverse. More important than a law enforcement agency’s ability to perform skills necessary to fight crime is whether the agency is diverse. Because, you know, diversity!

@@arroe8386 To be fair, those women could have just been in bad shape. That being said ... a man, doesn't even have to be huge gymbro, of similar fitness and conditioning, will be stronger than pretty much any female counterpart.
it just doesn't make sense to put intentional weak links into a SWAT team. if there is some bulldyke who IS on the male level and is as strong as the men -- let her in if she has the mental constitution. Otherwise, just get another man. SWAT teams are called when things get violent, sure, often it's about gun violence, but still - it gets to melee combat as well.

Because from what I’ve seen the US doesn’t really care about these types of international competitions. They’d rather be out there doing the job for real.
LAPD does about 500 more warrants then LAPD, does to shootings,Bomb threats,emotionally disturbed people, and dignitary support. The majority of including many special forces don’t do as much work as NYPD Emergency Services this is a fact.
