  • The Compact SUV segment is highly competitive, so the latest version of the Audi Q3 has its work cut out. Thanks to Five Oaks Audi I got the chance to put it through it's paces and find out.
    New styling, huge amounts of space and storage, and 4 engine options to choose from. So how did it get on...

    Huge fan and aspire to do vids like this as I’ve mentioned before to you. The bits with voice over combined with that music put the ‘feel’ of the piece back 20 plus years.
    Love the rest of it as always and the context of the review was great.

      Notice that with the steering wheel on the right side, that the driver must do almost everything left handed? It must feel uncomfortable.

      Cheers Bud. A slightly different style for me. It was cold and I didn't want to be outside for too long as I felt rubbish. So I did the detail pieces with voiceover. I reckon that would be a good technique for you to try if you don't have a car for long :-)

    I had considered waiting for the Audi but in the end plumped for its sister car , the Tiguan. In SEL spec I have greater standard spec , Panoramic sunroof , 19' alloys , adaptive cruise , led lights and with the twin turbo quite powerful , yet copes well with the snow. Will be interesting to see what VW do on the imminent update.

    For once it’s an SUV I would definitely look at Peter. Good looking, well appointed, nice quality materials and room for the Pooch in the back & the wheelchair in the boot. Would want the higher output petrol engine. MINI lookout, I could be changing my allegiance.

      Great review. I've ordered one but alot of reviews say this n that are optional and their not. For instance the cockpit plus 12.3 inch screen to name but a few are not even an optional extra. It's only standard on edition 1 and vorsprung models only. Electric seats,drivers assistant pack and wireless charging pad aren't standard or an optional extra either on s line models

    Hi Peter, what a great review the Q3 is big for a small SUV and you can tell it has the quality but to be honest I spotted a number of black plastic bits on the door panels and no felt on the door bins unless I missed it. No doubt in person it’s a great car but it’s not the Audi for me I just love your S4 now don’t get me started what a beautiful car. I’m just waiting for you to give us the review as I will be a dribbling mess over that one you have great taste and I think you have proved to your audience you don’t need to spend £70k on a new car while you can find great spec 2nd hand Audi,s with a great spec and low mileage. i just ordered the new q3 S-Line 45 TFSI Quattro S-tronic for april delivery and never specified the "advanced key" option which gives you the start / stop button. I did specify nearly all other options though. I'm glad Audi still gives us the option as i prefer turning a key. Too many horror stories of cars being stolen when the signal is hijacked.

  • @ytprodata
    @ytprodata Před 5 lety +1

    Thanks, useful review - not too many independent reviews around at present in English. Shame it wasn't the 45 TFSI though - comments on the performance there would have been interesting - the top engine is 'only' around 220bhp, presumably to leave some space for an SQ3/RSQ3, but who knows when? But maybe also not to step on the toes of the pending SQ2.
    Couple of other points: part of the appeal of these compact SUVs is to anyone who has chronic back problems (which is actually quite a lot of us) - the extra 3-4 inches in seat height makes a big difference to seating comfort. And I'm struggling to convince myself about the exterior - side profile in particular still looks pretty pedestrian and the front is very contrived with the unnecessarily supersized grille and fake air intakes. Colour palette is also very limited.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 5 lety

      The 45 engine would make a huge difference and an SQ3 or even RS Q3 would be brilliant :-)

    I sold my Macan a few months ago as my wifes S1 was a lot more fun to drive. I thought about hanging on for the SQ2 as I wanted a smaller more 'throwable' car. I ended up going for an S3 5 door hatch. Not quite the looker the Macan was but more fun to drive and I love the virtual cockpit. I still think the S1 edges it for fun (manual gearbox), but the S3 is a great all rounder and matches the Macan for M'way refinement. I do feel that Audi have moved backwards with their latest MMI..I've really enjoyed not having to wipe fingerprints off the screen all the time as I did in the Macan..the wheel and touch pad on the S3 are SO much better IMHO. I noticed fingerprints all over the screen on your test car. I'm sure your S4 is the same as the S3 i.e. no touchscreen...which MMI interface do you prefer?

Although I think that is obvious now ha ha. Do you find some marques are becoming similar inside and out? Great review!. I've ordered a Q3 1.5 TFSI Vorsprung in Daytona Grey Pearlescent & this model is loaded with all the extra's including 20" Wheels. In the current economical climate, I think it's too early to go Electric & I'm also concerned about the re-sale value a few years down the line. Consequently, with it's Cylinder Deactivation, I decided on the 1.5. I usually have larger engined cars but I'm trying to do my bit for the environment!. In your opinion is this Engine well suited to the Q3?.

    In your most honest and truthful opinion, do you think that you, me and other petrol/diesel heads are very much old school now? I do believe that within the very very near future all European governments will implement loads of extra implementations/taxes etc on " outdated petrol/diesel" models, thus making us feel totally non PC and non environmentally friendly. A typical decent Audi / BMW which may cost us say circa 30k / 50k would become worthless. I believe ( even though I hate to admit it ) If you spend 30k / 50k on an electric vehicle today, within the next say 3 years you will have a much more resalable vehicle and become more PC in protecting our environment. I believe in 2 /3 years because of global pressure we will be pressured into buying electric cars like it or lump it. So having said that I will love watching your great videos for as long as I can.

      Downside to electric vehicles is the death of the battery pack. So many dead Nissan Leafs out there now worth less than the new battery they need. Reading about problems with Tesla and the cost to fit a new battery and we are talking very expensive cars. I don't think ICE cars are dead yet.

I’m having a dig as the way cars MMI systems are progressing in comparison to what is illegal behind the wheel. Being a touch screen is causing them to be far too intrusive into the concentration needed to drive.

    Go to Range Rover Evoque vs Volvo XC 40 vs Audi Q3 and see how horrible this Audi Q3 is. This car is far from being a premium luxury SUV. Lots of plastic, the cabin is on par with a mid priced economy SUV and this Audi is noisey and sluggish.
