Today I want to show you why I think Bangkok’s best value dim sum is not in Chinatown, it’s in Charoen Krung Road. This will be my third video from Bang Khao Laem and I think I may have just saved the best till last!
What makes Tuang Dim Sum so special is that Hong Kong-born chef Yip, was the man behind the success of the 5 star Shangri-La Hotel’s Shang Palace restaurant. He gave that up to open this small little non descriptive dim sum eatery and hasn’t looked back!
When you see its walls pasted with food certificates and awards, you know instantly that this is a step up from your typical Thai dim sum joint. Praised by many as one of the best and most affordable dim sum restaurants in all of Bangkok, Tuang is my pick as the best value dim sum in Bangkok, if not Thailand!
We had Sui Mai, Bao Buns, Har gow, Xia Long Bao and Cheong fun all times 2 or 3!
The whole feast we had came to 488 THB - £11.45 / $13.95 which is what it would cost for two pieces in London! This is 5 Star Hotel Dim Sum at Thai Street Food Prices!

Dim sum looks incredible. I’m a big fan of dim sum in Chinatown in London, this looks better and a fraction of the price, definitely to the top of the list for my next Bangkok visit, You really are sharing the cream of the crop of great food in Bangkok Gary many thanks

Trader Joes has awesome Dim Sum too great back up when there is nothing in your area in the States. This place is a must visit if you are in Bangkok, that fried chili oil dipping sauce is super important

Joe’s right- you can get that crispy chilli oil in the uk and it’s ridiculously good! Love a good dim sum joint - used to go to one in Leicester Square years ago. They had carts going round with different dishes on and it was amazing 🤩
I think it was called Man Fu Kung. Long gone now - but it changed my outlook on Asian food 😋

Hi Gary we stayed a few years back in the Shanghai Mansion in Chinatown, They have an all you can eat Dim Sum feast that we thought was absolutely amazing well worth a try
Going to have to try this place when I bring my nieces over to Bangkok this winter!
Just a note that they have moved up the street to a big open air place. I’ll go next week!
Visited Jacks chicken rice today. It was really good and he’s a real nice person. And happy when I mentioned that it was because of your video I found him. He even threw me a goodbye in Swedish when I left which was quite surprising.
We went to support Jack in December but unfortunately he was not there. We were disappointed. Will try again next time we’re in Thailand.

The next time you eat here, I recommend the shrimp funquo, fried taro puff and oyster sauce tofu sheet (pork dumpling with veggies wrapped in tofu skin) in addition to yr faves. Also, if they have shrimp and chive dumpling, I'd get those as well.
Taung Dim Sum is that right? That one is really good. Not very far from there is Mr. Joe Moo Krob anyone shouldn't miss too

@@theroamingcook I will check that out! btw, there is one small hidden Gaeng Pa restaurant in Bang Rak area. Jungle curry there is is just outstanding, Ratchaburi recipe. You should check that out to challenge your spicy level!

@@theroamingcook search for "Ahan Pa Song Phi Nong" you have to get there from small soi opposite Robinson Bangrak until intersection then turn left about 50 meters to see it on the left. Grab some white "Tod Mun" on main road before get into this small alley too - best of luck, wait to see your review!

Saphan Taksin is the closest but you can get a boat to Wat Ratcha Singkhon and walk also

The thick Xiao Long Bao is done for a reason, it goes with their style of operation, they have to resist over steaming and breaking up, they are not delicate like other restaurants which are more genteel.
Yeah for sure mate. I like them like that, more bite but just letting everyone know the differences
I wish I still had my set of bamboo steamer baskets, but I still could never match this with the frozen dim sum dumplings I could have bought yesterday instead of potstickers. I certainly have all the vinegars and chilis for dipping, but that's about the best you can do here in the US. Another one of your best videos.

This is totally random but could you do an episode on bar food menu in Thailand? I cannot really find one searching online. I know Thai people usually eat 5-6 dishes while drinking a beer or whiskey/soda water mix. Appreciate your videos in advance :)

I couldn’t locate the Tuang dim sum stall, your video shown it is next to a dental clinic but the google map is showing a much bigger shop house that has a wide red gate entrance. Can u provide some landmark that can help me get there? Tks!!

For me no1 Dim Sum in BK is Hong Bao in Central Embassy.
It's very good for sure but a completely different price range.

Im taiwanese and I totally agree with you on din tai fung. That place is simply overpriced thats it 😂😂 taste isn’t bad but its just not a place that would make a foodie go back!

Dimsums are best with soy sauce, calamansi or lemon, with chili oil. Thank me later.
