It was an event. Guardian angels i think it was called. americans went in P-51 and P-47 or B-17 and escorted a formation a B-17s and Germans went in 109's, FW's, and 410's. I thought this video was of the event and i got really excited to play it
John Sledge it was Guarding Angels as the dude above said that was with K-4 attacking the formations and Battle for Swallows that was with the 262s engaging but for some reason they removed them from the events but they still exist in custom battle options
So special events like this pop up in the game from time to time? I'm new to War Thunder and are trying to figure out where you get in on missions like this. Thanks!
@@dieseljester3466 Yes, they tend to pop up from time to time. Just log in every day and you'll see it on the events tab on the top right hand corner.

I wish that in air RB, the bomber spawn would be moved behind the airfield, so planes that can climb could escort the bombers at high alt
aye, every game they run off, drop their bombs and die. Very few survive to ever rearm.
also, it'd give Allies a chance to climb enough to kill the BVs

Fighters engage fighters
Every game turns into a last man standing or 60 minutes battle

If only night fighters got a spotting advantage over day fighters, that woul be nice. Imagine that, Bf 110 G, Do 217 N, F6F-5N and so on...and a special bonus for "Wild Sow" Bf 109 successes. :-D

I use it sometimes to indicate that i am changing altitude in realistic mode. Bc people crash sometimes during takeoff
I use it while pairing up with teammates to see who’s with me, after that smokes off

Once the B17s made it across the channel we were doomed. 262s can't climb that quick to engage. Needed 163s
in real life, couldn´t the 163s climb vertical? How is that in WT?
Only 8minutes of fuel in the 163 sucks tho

163s can climb at a good angle in WT but not straight up for too long
THIS WAS AWESOME!! and I agree that I think more players would enjoy something like this. And to make it more fun add a respawn function where when you die you are put into a queue and when 4 planes die they then respawn together so fighters are going up in groups. same with bombers. We need an EnduringConfrontaion for RB.
I agree. Air RB as it is now isn't much fun and gets repetitive after a while and it focuses too much on fighters. The bigger portion of bombers and ground strikers is pretty much useless and gets killed instantly. And there's just a certain amount of fighters that fit in the competitive meta. It would be nice to play larger air battles with a respawn system like in tank RB where every type of aircraft has a viable and engaging role.

PhlyDaily true I can't deny that but you have done so many customs like these and they always end up being a shitfest (of course not your fault :D) but it would be amazing to try have a tactical bombing custom game with escorts . I have done it in the past with my old squadron and 6 others that brought people for this event we created and trust me , a proper tactical bombing mission with bombers with diamond formations ( talking for 17 bombers ) allied fighters flying in pairs of 4 or 2 around the formation (8 fighters or 12) (we kinda crushed the Moscow map when it was first introduced but k :p) and the enemy to play smart in order to succeed in the mission. Give it a try you and if you succeed you will have a fucking great time.
+edit The enemy fighters should be around 12-16

March of 2020 a 7 year relationship I was in ended, I was trapped at home alone for the first time ever. Thanks to this video right here, I bought a laptop and downloaded this immediately I had to try this game. I waited for your videos to drop every day I looked forward to it. You introduced me to odd, Benny, webe and some of my favorite videos I keep coming back to. Thank you Phly for making those days and a lot of days since better and more enjoyable. I love when big formations of players get together to do something cool like this, but tbh that smoke just ruins it for me. Great, four or five guys out of the formation have airshow smoke coming out of their 1940s bombers. "LOOK AT ME I GOT COTTON CANDY COMING OUT OF MY PLANE, BE SURE TO CHECK ME OUT I'M RIGHT HERE." Like brotha, you don't even want to hide the fact that you're 12 years old for a second, do you? Imagine if movie extras did shit like this, you're watching a dramatic scene in like Titanic or something and a few assholes in the background crowd are jumping up and down and gesturing to get your attention

Climb by IAS, not angle!
He plays more jets than props, with jets you need TAS because of current stupid metagame, primary speed is life and you need to know precisely what's your exact TAS at every moment.
LeandrysRX8 Even if you’re using TAS, if you’re just climbing at a constant angle you run the risk of being at an inefficient airspeed given that you’d eventually need to decrease your AoA to maintain your desired climbspeed regardless of IAS or TAS.
There's is an indicator for your fuselage's incidency on virtual view, helping you to measure how your plane is flying at your speed compared to altitude. IAS is a lot overrated by players, you don't need it at all with fast planes once you are experienced. It helps you a lot when you lack knowledge and experience with your plane, later you don't need it at all, or almost so.
Matthew Kirk Doesn't work, tried it before and didn't work, plus, how are you supposed to know what IAS you're supposed to climb at with a certain plane? Climbing at an angle is better and to climb by IAS is just stupid.

Phly there are already 2 "operations"/game modes similar to that, there's one where the allied side has to cross The Channel to bomb targets in France and there's another where the allied side has to defend the UK from a axis naval landing, both of them are played in large maps which takes a bit of time just to start the action, additionally the mission across The Channel is quite realistic since you have to fly for over 30km distance until the targets, the problem is that it's a MMO game and few fighters climb to protect the bombers while the germans like to lose altitude and attack the AF
Events like this excisted a few years back. This one was 'Flight of the Swallows'; about 15 players could use P-51Ds and 10 were in 262 As and the 262s had to stop the AI B-17s from reaching there bombing target and both teams started at 5k meters altitude. This event and others used to rotate and many of them were great, although often imbalanced. No idea why Gaijin stopped them :/ you could even do similar tank events. Who else remembers?

As shown in Tuskegee Airmen, close escort was a monumental failure. The escorts simply couldn't react or maneuver in time to protect the bombers. What did work (eventually) was running fighter sweeps far ahead of the bomber streams, catching the little bastards as they take off and again when they land, and then shooting up everything else you see of interest. The whole objective was reducing the number of fighters threatening your bombers, and killing enemy pilots. By 1945, this tactic was hugely successful

Just bind the controls with a modifier key ex. Alt (or another unassigned key)+ 1 or Alt+ a, etc.

5:53 Players in Aces High know what that's like, and often! But in AH a bomber pilot flies with 2 added drones. So if there were 6 bomber pilots there'd be 18 bombers in the formation. Escorts could be P51s, 262s, P47s, 190s or anything else available.
Well they could add a mode better representing historical events.
Period-limited aircraft; one side flying strat bombers and heavy figthers as escorts. The other side fewer in numbers or having to intercept from an airfield while the bombers air spawn. The defending side only having fighters/interceptors of course. They would have to travel a distance (and height): to actually _intercept_ them.
I can _actually_ see this working, even in arcade. People would actually have to improve their chances of winning by staying close and try to coordinate a little bit too.

This is completely accurate on the almost impossibility of hitting a 262 at combat speeds, the short engagement time was the only saving grace bomber crews could rely on. American pilots really only killed 262s on landing and takeoff when the plane was slow

we have the futuristic knowledge of all these fighters and their best models, imagine the P 51 pilots and the B 17 crew they had no idea what it was or what it was capable of. imagine the fear of never seeing a ME-262 jet before and suddenly lit rips apart your plane and kills your friends. we must remember those pilots, and the ones that never made it back to their families.
The thing that really pisses me off with this game is when you get two holes in your wing and then your wing comes off
