    9:32 Here are some tips for ordering beverages in Malaysia: 1. Teh = tea + condensed milk + sugar (2 to 3 teaspoons)
    2. Teh O = tea + sugar (2 to teaspoons)
    3. Teh ice = As #1 + ice cubes
    4. Teh O ice = As #2 + ice cubes
    5. Use the word "kosong" or "tidak ada gula" to any of the above if you do not want sugar

    • @jonmath4182
      @jonmath4182 Před 2 lety +7

      Yeah, also some other clarifiers that you need to remember to use:
      6. Kurang manis please! If you feel that the drink is just a little bit too sweet, and you want it to be less sweet, say 80% of its original sweetness
      7. Kurang kurang kurang manis please! If you feel that the drink is distinctly too sweet, and you want it to be much less sweet, say 50% of its original sweetness
      8. Kurang kurang kurang manis ganda seribu please! If you go to mamak store and feel that their drink is intolerably wayyyy over the chart in sweetness, and you want it to be way way way much less sweet, say only 20% of its original sweetness!! (This is my personal trademark expression, it's not known or used by other malaysians, yet)

  • @meteorasb
    @meteorasb Před 2 lety +35

    When you drink msian drinks with straw, don't drink directly from the bottom of the glass. Sometimes the sugar or condensed milk are not yet dissolved. So what i do is usually i drink from just right under the ice layer. So the beverage is watered down by the ice water so it won't be as sweet.

    Konnichiwa Nobu Shun Poko! Some tips to identify Mamak;
    1. ALMOST ALL MAMAKs are located at the CORNER of shop lots.
    2. Usually their staffs are MALE Indian Muslims (Malay aunty also but not common)
    3. Full with bright WHITE lights especially when you guys come at night. So easy to recognize.
    4. Lots of youths go there to 'lepak', you guys can see them sitting at the tables arranged just outside of the mamak restaurant in the street.
    5. Their must have menu is NASI KANDAR and roti canai, their teh tarik is a must try.
    6. Mamak business hour is usually 24-hour or at least close past midnight due to Covid restrictions. However starts this coming April all restaurants are allowed to operate 24H. 😊
    Anyway, you should get a local of the specific place to guide you guys. So that you can gain more insights of the place and foods.

    One trick you need to know that everytime you drink,mix the water first because sometimes they didn't mix the sugar at the bottom of the glass with the water. So that's why it taste sweet. Mix them well together and the first slurp is gonna taste delicious and refreshing. 😉 That's why your Teh O Ice is sweet and your Teh Ice is warm at the bottom when you slurp it. Slurp at the upper part or mix them first.

    The green chili is less spicy than the red chili. Be careful if you found the red one! If you don't really like sweet drinks, you can always say ' kurang manis ' = less sugar/ sweet when ordering like "teh karik kurang manis satu". But, sometimes, I just order another glass of plain water. You can order it by saying " air kosong or ice kosong satu ". Also, most restaurants and stalls use sugar syrup for their drinks. The bottom part will be really sweet. So, always make sure to stir your drinks before you drink it ya~
