I just dropped 4 customers. One for not wanting to cleaning up dawg poop. One for not paying on time, having to chase them down for payment. The next for always asking for doing extra services and not wanting to pay for those services. And the last for attempting to dictate the times I mow. Way to stressful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like what you said about your child. Americans have it drilled in their heads that when you're 18, you have to get out and find your way. I left home at 18 for the USAF, so I was set. My kids can stay as long as they need to until they have sufficient savings. One left at 26, graduated college and is doing her thing. The other has a fulltime job and has graduated college also and is still at home saving money.

When I first started my business, I took every customer no matter what. I did things for them that I now laugh at myself for. I once had over 60 customers! Realizing that my prices were to low for the work I was providing, I eventually raised prices and got rid of the cheap, pestering, no good customers overnight. Now I hover between 30-40 customers, making more money, and home with my family regularly! I have no problem getting rid of a problem customer these days! Also, that lawn looked a little wet buddy.😅 God Bless!

Before you got hot, the "venting" portion of the vlog was very entertaining!!!
Now we wonder how that customer is going to handle the dumping. Of course you ended by saying that you were going to "fire" him. But that is hard to do when he is the one who hired you. Ha ha! But I am with you when you get a needy customer or any customer like that, leaves you with that type of feeling. You feel that they have disrupted your day and disrupted your organization of thoughts. I have been there. And you know what you have to do and give them the news.
And once you do, you feel so much better and how everything goes back to normal again.
Another thing to think of is since he is the neighbor of one of your customers, how you will be able to see the new outfit that takes this guy on. And how you can only pity them. These types are very hard to please and will have an ongoing revolving door of lawn services. This fellow is better off doing his yard himself.

Interesting. He says "He needs to drop this new customer because the guy was texting him and asking to be there on the first service, wanting to know what time he could come etc..." So I guess any customer he gets must agree to all his rules to actually service them. We all know there are lawn service folks everywhere. My only concern is that if you are pricing your service (the rates you claim are NOT FL rates) specifically because you provide a superior product, the customer's experience and satisfaction level should count for something also. I understand you don't want to be called and text a lot, but if the customer is only seeking answers because he's new and you are new to him....I mean you did agree to take the customer on. I'm a customer who will pay good money for GREAT service, and by the way, I want to pay for what I want as well. The moral of my comment, the customer and service provider has to both understand HOW to work together for the best results.

Some lawn guys myself included arnt highly social. I used to be a professor. I hate the thousand question games. For the first three weeks of the semester I wore a shirt that said "its in the Syllabus" Johnny mentioned he has a link he gives new customers with a giant Q&A on commonly asked questions and how the business operates for customers. I'm the same way with my lawncare clients, if someone cant be bothered to read the TOS and Q&A when onboarding with me, I dont really want them as a client. My Q&A says usually I'll be there 90% of the time on the same day, I promise no time I'll arrive due to rain, equipment issues, or heat. Same thing with softscaping project clients too. I'll kick ppl off my list to put down gravel or mulch real fast if they message me all summer long wondering when its gonna get done cause I explained when I onboarded them I only do projects spring thraw to early summer, and fall till first snow. thunderstorm/heat season is mowing only.

I clearly understand your point, but at the end it's my business and I will run it my way, not stressing. Thanks for your point of view

His (Johnnie's) point of view was given as how he keeps his schedule full and organized with customers that are somewhat similar in their needs. And that is how a business owner should approach their discipline to achieve a "well-oiled" machine (even if he uses some electric equipment ha ha)
It can be taken that he (Johnnie) was thinking out loud. And, running a well run, "busy", owner-operator business, takes a LOT of discipline amd dedication. So to recognize a customer where the personalities won't mesh when most other's do is an asset. And your WRONG about this picky customer who told Johnnie "he likes to be present whenever someone come over to do work". That doesn't mean just the initial visit!
Again, you may have misconstrued the sentiment of this video. I choose to see as thinking out loud and how someone handles an issue quickly amd decisively based on wisdom and experience.
Sure this fella that he dropped may make a fine customer for someone else that is just starting out or less busy. But bravo to sort out these types early on and share with other aspiring landscapers.

@@rickr2029 No, I did not miss Mr. Johnnie's point. He is right, it's his business and he runs it as he sees fit. That's the bottom line. He has a right to not service anybody that don't line up with his business practices. Just like customers have a right to hire and fire anybody that provide the service they seek, and that includes compatibility.

I can understand that a customer wants to be there, I can also understand it’s hard if you have multiple yards. It’s a new customer though, so, you should give them understanding. They may be new to using contractors, etc. They could also have some past experiences that has them on edge.

Overcharging by double and mowing grass that doesn’t even need to be mowed… you’re a heck of a business owner, lets not forget one that can’t be stressed

All I use is the hand held Stihl battery blower. The back pack is my backup.

I don’t see anything regarding dog poop on your Q&A. I want to add that on my website along with similar Q&A’s you have on your site. Thank you Johnny . 💪🏼🙏👌👍
