I'd like to share, turns out hitlists are somewhat effective! Though time consuming when answering, it's pretty much helpful for artists trying to find what to draw, you have a higher chance of getting attacked and overall effective to find ocs that they personally prioritize!
Though just be sure how many times youve answered a hitlist, keep in track! (I have answered at least 89 hitlists)

@mossfeather7984 a hitlist is a form that you or another artfighter fills out. It's a way find others to attack or be attacked by other artfighters!

For personal experience, if you want to do a mass atack, perpear prior to the artfight starts, the why is bc of burnout and stress (pluss the pure adrenaline if the artfight its almost ending and you almost have it done). But ofc, it may be people that wont participate in the next artfight and the efford u had done comes to waste, so its important to see that the creator of said character will be there for the big surprise :bbb
Yes! I 100% agree with ya! As someone who's done a big mass attack for both years, the first year I just decided to do one right before the fight ended with around 30+ characters, I believe. NOT a smart thing to do 💔
The second year I did one, I learned from the first time and planned right before the fight started. Mass attacks are definitely stressful if you don't plan ahead 🥹💛
I’ve been doing Art fight for 4 years so far (5th comming up) and thease are all excellent tips!!
The refs thing is one of the most important ones for sure. Another tip for that is really think who needs a new ref, if it’s just “old looks bad” but still accurately conveys the character, just add new/more recent images of them and put it as the primary image, Meybe even leave a note about it being old but still accurate. Lessens the workload.
Most of my refs haven’t been updated in years and work great.

But that is actually a really great tip! It's definitely very helpful! I do agree with ya as trying to constantly remake refs every artfight is tiring!! My characters always change every year so I usually remake the refs but in times when I don't need to, I don't bother remaking it!

Honestly, I hadn't thought of it either until the site was basically not usable the first week and struggled to get any refs LOL ! But of course! 💛💛
i think a great tip is to make sure to look at characters on the front page aswell! most first years try to get their characters seen there and so it’s a lot easier to find new characters and also get revenges back :) definitely not a 100% revenge back rate but it’s great especially if you want more art friends

These are all really good tips! this upcoming artfight will be my third artfight! so from my experience so far, id also like to throw in some more tips as well!! Id highly suggest, a week before art fight begins and you have your bookmarked characters picked out that you want to fight, DOWNLOAD THE CHARACTERS REF SHEET!!! not only does it make the drawing process easier, but the artfight site WILL CRASH AND BE SLOW for the first day or so, so make sure you have a couple reference sheets saved before it begins. I also highly recommend attacking smaller artists!!! not only because smaller artists deserve some love too, but also you are far more likely to get an attack/ revenge back. Finally, id say to always have fun! it can feel really daunting and dreadful to think about making sure to attack someone every day, but you do not have to. its a silly competition, so have fun and draw characters you want to draw, draw when you want to draw. also, not every attack has to be a fully rendered artwork. but yea, I'm super excited for art fight this year and i hope yall have a great time as well!!! :)

I do agree with everything!! The site is always a pain within the first week of artfight, the site crashing can be really hard on artfighters sometimes! Downloading those refs will definitely be a huge help!
The small artist thing; Heck yaaa!!! I've attacks some of them in both years I've participated in and they're always the sweetest- especially when it's one of their first attacks they've gotten! They're always super happy and thankful. I love seeing it 🥹🩷

Going into the artfight discord and looking for people who specify that they always revenge(Or if they say that in their profile, that too) is also really useful! This'll be my third year and I still haven't had someone not revenge me if I found them through the discord.

Very informative video!!! I totally agree with wanting more art of my prioritized characters, I sometimes get overexcited when there are so many amazing characters to choose from, but I personally prefer to target people who have characters they REALLY want to see. And the bookmark thing is so true, a character would be in the bookmarks then once art fight starts it's hidden the second day after drawing it ;; I really like the idea to wait bit before drawing a character from a bookmark or contact the artist

2nd year of Art Fight for me this year, and I cannot wait! Finally got around to updating my refs and making a Hitlist(Which only has 4 responses so far :') ), but I'm much more prepared this time.
Last year I did just slap random characters on there, but I've since hidden the 5 I didn't want art of as much, so I only have 6 characters on my profile now anyway lol.
Anyway, like I said I can't wait! I hope you and everyone possibly reading this has an absolutely amazing Art Fight this year! ^-^

this will be my 7th year doing artfight and I think everything you said is pretty sound advice! Especially saving references a day or two before cause of the site going down/not book marking a ton of stuff super early

unless youre a popular artist or something, no one battles you, i drew so many things for other people and got nothing back

Personally, I know what you mean! I've definitely had quite a bit not attack back for both years.
A lot of people tend to go for the more popular artists, which can lead to not being attacked because of how many attacks a popular artist can get 😅
I've also seen several accounts that leave their characters up and join a team but never attack nor respond to anything.
This is why I usually ignore those with little attack rate. I'm definitely not a fan of attacking others who don't bother to even think of attacking me back (kind of someone who's only in it for free art and free art alone) because of wasted effort and time 💔

Thank you for this! I joined ArtFight last year, but didn't have any motivation to actually participate due to the "finishing references at the last minute" thing. This will be my first year /actually/ in the fight so the tips help!
Yo!! Yeah, when artfighters do their reference sheets right before the fight, it makes me go 😬 !! because it is totally rough! It being both stressful and having to suddenly draw so much at one time is definitely a motivation killer! I've often done most references a couple weeks before the fight to give myself time!!

I remember when I attacked someone because it said revenge in the bio, but after I drew the attack I noticed an “*” at the end of it. I scrolled all the way down and it said “mutuals only”. I feel like it’s wrong to do this because it’s easy to miss. I noticed their attack and defence ratio is similar, except they don’t revenge people, only rarely.
Sometimes I get angry when trying to do artfight since this is my first year because I am mostly skilled in object show characters but I barely get any points for them since they all count as simple shapes 😭🙏

my attack to defense ratio is so bad , but its not because i have a low attack or even a low revenge rate :'' a couple years back i decided i wanted to donate to be a VIP donator (and i still am!) but now bc i get frequented on the front page, im always swamped in more defenses than i could ever reasonably attack back. i love all the art i receive but sometimes i feel a lot of guilt knowing i dont have enough time to get back to everyone i want to. not complaining necessarily but something to keep in mind for more frequented or popular pages ! i think looking at a profiles follower count, which is also under their statistics, should be taken into consideration too, as im currently sitting at 2k+ n its a big part of why my ratio is so whack 😭
Something like that is definitely understandable!! I think that's fine when it comes to something like that.
Imo; as long as you are genuinely trying to attack/revenge and are genuinely grateful for the artwork, I see nothing wrong with it!
The only issues I have is when someone is clearly in it for free art and doesn't bother/care to attack/revenge anyone- like it doesn't even come to their mind of attacking or revenging.
I've seen quite a few that are just like ghost accounts. They join a team & have characters up- but never respond nor attack or revenge anyone. Lol
So, in this case, I completely understand! 🫡🩷

Ayy!! That's pretty valid! Honestly, I don't see an issue with having plenty of characters up at once if you don't mind which ones get attacked/none are really prioritized!
It's only really tough if you have prioritized characters because they may not get the attention you really want with so many up! 😆💛

Hi, I apologize if this doesn't answer your question properly;
But usually you pick ocs (as many as you want) that you would like more art of than the other ones you have up, and you can either;
1. State the characters (and their names) and say you prioritize them/wish more art of them.
ex; "I prioritize art of (name), (name), (name)"
2. Add symbols to their names and state in your bio;
"Ocs with ☆ in their name are prioritized"
Or 3. If you prioritize all, then you can state that you would like art of all of your ocs equally!
I'm not exactly sure if this answered your question in any way. Please let me know if this wasn't able to or if you need another question answered and I'll do my best to answer! 👍

One thing i wanted to ask is, im afraid of theft😭 which ofc put a watermark. But what about sprinkling a little bit of lore about the character to make the character more fun to draw for others?
Like how much lore is too much and how little is too little?
Honestly, too much for me is when someone writes the characters whole life story or writes everything in complete detail. I think putting a small part of their backstory or brief summary of it, and other little details about them that would give people ideas.
Like a character bio with a brief summary of the characters backstories, their personality, hobbies, occupation, any relationships with other characters...
Too little for me is probably if there's nothing in their character bio or just lists their name and age. Personally, I think it's fine to do that if you don't know much about the character yet. I still do that sometimes.
Everybody has a different definition of what too much or too little is, so this is just what I think 👍
Also, if you wanted to show more info on the character, you can always link a google doc or their toyhouse profile in the character's artfight description!
And personally, about the art theft, I actually forget to put a signature/watermark too many times because I don't worry too much about it, especially since I can prove the artwork is mine lol
But yeah! If you're worried about it, you can also hide your watermark within the artwork so nobody can just erase it easily 🙏 make it hard to find if that makes any sense!
So about the dont do the ref sheets 3 days before the event...

Also I’m curious, at 2:43 how were you able to instantly select and fill in that drawing? I’m using ibisPaint and idk how to do that, and I don’t wanna do it manually every time…
Or is that just what the Timelapse showed? Did you select it manually or did you do something else?
I'm not sure if this makes sense since it's kind of hard to explain through text,
but I selected the outside areas of the character, then inverted it (if that's what you'd call it?). I use a pen tool and make it large enough that I can draw the color over it so I don't have to color it manually.
I'd be more than happy to make a short video to show how to do it if it's easier 👍
