Great Saiyaman is actually a direct reference to Kamen Rider. And the Ginyu Force is a reference to Super Sentai lol There are a lot of Tokusatsu references in anime

Kamen Rider Shin, ZO, and J were a series of experimental films released in the 90’s while Kamen Rider was on hiatus. Being movies, they didn’t have openings, instead putting their theme songs during the end credits. That’s why there was a short series of ED’s.

Some facts about each season, because I know way too much about Kamen Rider:
The first Kamen Rider (themes: Let’s Go Rider Kick (there are two versions) and Rider Action) ran into a bit of production troubles during filming when the main character’s actor, Hiroshi Fujioka, shattered his leg in a motorcycle stunt gone wrong. Because of this, his character was written out of the show around episode 11 and a new character was quickly introduced to replace him as the second Kamen Rider until he could return.
Kamen Rider V3 (theme: Tatakae! Kamen Rider V3) was the first Kamen Rider to be shown in the west in some capacity, as it (along with Kikaider and Himitsu Sentai Gorenger) was aired with English subtitles in Hawaii.
Kamen Rider X (theme: Set Up! Kamen Rider X) was the second Rider to have his own weapon after V3’s secondary Rider, Riderman & his prosthetic peanut arm.
Kamen Rider Amazon (theme: Amazon Rider Koko Ni Ari) was cancelled for being too graphic. EDIT: Check the comments; this one’s wrong.
Kamen Rider Stronger (theme: Kamen Rider Stronger No Uta) is the last season where all of the previous Riders’ actors all appear together.
Kamen Rider, also known as Kamen Rider 1979, Kamen Rider Skyrider, Skyrider, or The New Kamen Rider (themes: Moero! Kamen Rider & Otoko No Na Wa Kamen Rider) was intended to be a reboot of the franchise. It didn’t do too well.
Kamen Rider Super-1 (whose theme doesn’t have a name) is the only season where the main Rider’s actor is a criminal in real life.
Birth Of The 10th (theme: Dragon Road) was intended to be a pilot to a full ZX show, but as you can probably guess, it never really took off.
Kamen Rider Black (which, again, doesn’t really have a theme with a real name) is called “Black Man” in Brazil, and I find that really funny.
Black RX (again, theme doesn’t really have a name) is the first and so far only direct sequel to another Kamen Rider season.
Shin Kamen Rider Prologue is the first of the three Showa movies. I also didn’t realize how weird the ending is until watching this, especially because of how out-of-context it appears here.
ZO (whose end theme name escapes me) and J (whose end theme is Kokoro Tsunagu Ai) were intended to be a “new” version of the first two Kamen Riders. Oh, also J can grow to massive sizes. Not ZO though. I’m starting to get why the whole “new version of older Riders” thing never panned out.
Kuuga (if you guessed that this theme also doesn’t have a name, you’d be correct!) was the first Rider season directed after the passing of series creator Shotaro Ishinomori.
Agito (whose first theme isn’t really called anything but whose second theme is AGITO 24.7 Version) was originally intended to be a sequel to Kuuga, but beyond a few minor references in the first few episodes, it’s mostly its own thing.
Ryuki (theme: Alive A Life) is a confusing mess chronologically, mainly due to the introduction of time travel and the questionable canonicity of its movie.
555 (theme: Justifaiz, alternately spelled Justiϕs) is, one, pronounced (and referred to by most people as) Faiz, which is a pun on the Greek letter phi and the word “fives”, and two, is the first major instance of multiple people sharing the same Rider form. Agito’s secondary Rider kinda did it first, but Faiz is the first time where it’s especially common.
Blade (themes: Round Zero (Blade Brave) & ELEMENTS) is a goldmine of memes, including but not limited to Are You Really A Traitor, UWAAAAA, and the anti-homeless bench that makes everyone cry. I won’t spoil anything but there’s a reason for that last one.
Hibiki (first theme is Kagayaki, no idea what the second one’s called) wasn’t initially intended to be a Kamen Rider, but was given the name later for reasons I don’t know.
Kabuto (theme: NEXT LEVEL) is supposedly one constant 50-episode long reference to Kamen Rider Stronger. Also, the main Rider’s actor is bilingual (English/Japanese) which is all fine and dandy until you get this cursed-ass scene: czcams.com/video/AyBaO8yO7Qc/video.html
Den-O (themes: Climax Jump & Climax Jump DEN-LINER Version) is the first (and no longer only) season to feature demonic possession as a main theme and plot point.
Kiva (theme: Break The Chain) includes the first secondary Rider that could qualify as both a Heisei and Showa-era Rider.
Decade (theme: Journey Through The Decade) is best watched if you haven’t watched Kuuga through Kiva before it. It’s also the only Kamen Rider season to get Toei, the company that owns and makes Kamen Rider, in trouble with the Japanese government.
W/Double (theme: W Boiled Xtreme) is set up a lot like a detective drama story-wise, and was where the “monster of the fortnight” trope became prevalent, in which a monster will be introduced in one episode, then defeated in the next, which I honestly think is a better format for storytelling than the usual “monster of the week” formula that shows like Power Rangers use.
OOO (theme: Anything Goes) is my favourite Kamen Rider season. All of the insert themes are awesome and the plot is absolutely stellar. Also Ankh is beautiful and I can’t wait to see him come back. That’s it, that’s the fact.
Fourze (theme: Switch On!) was produced during the franchise’s 40th anniversary. It’s at this point where I realise I’ve spent about an hour writing this, and that I’m incredibly tired.
Wizard (theme: Life Is SHOW TIME) is disliked by a decent amount of people. From what I’ve seen of it, it’s okay, but for some reason not a lot of people like this one.
Gaim (theme: Just Live More) starts off fun and lighthearted but gets _really_ fucking dark.
Drive (theme: Surprise Drive) has a character named Mr. Belt who is (get this) a belt.
Ghost (theme: We Think Therefore We Are) is the only season that I’ve watched all the way through in a month. I don’t think I’ll ever be okay again after doing that but oh well.
Ex-Aid (theme: EXCITE) hits differently in *current year*.
Build (theme: Be The One) is one of the best seasons of Kamen Rider in recent history. There’s also a fanfic out there where the final villain of the show fucks the show’s (inanimate) deus ex machina, a box from space. It’s... interesting, to say the least.
Zi-O (theme: Over Quartzer) features the best character ever, Woz. He’s like Zi-O’s personal hype man.
Zero One (theme: REALxEYEZ, not shown here) was unfortunately affected by the Pandemic, which drastically changed its ending. Still a great season though.
Saber (theme: ALMIGHTY) was the first Rider to have a bike but not have a bike. Let me explain: Japan passed some sort of law before Saber premiered making motorcycles with basically any kind of modification to them not street legal, so Saber’s bike, Diago Speedy, appeared in a single CGI scene in the first or second episode and then was never mentioned again.
Revice (theme: LiveDevil) is the current season and now the second to prominently feature demonic possession.
Amazons (themes: Armour Zone & Die Set Down) were made for Amazon (the company) and are available to watch with subtitles on their version of Netflix.
Masked Rider was a shitty adaptation of Black RX by Saban after Power Rangers got super popular. It had basically no budget and gave us the god-awful character of fuckin’ Ferbus. Oh, and the suit actor for Ferbus was apparently the same dude that played Mini-Me in Austin Powers. -In fact, it was his last acting role before he passed away. What a way to end your career, am I right?- Slight correction: it wasn’t his last role. I have no idea when or where I heard that but it’s not true. My bad.
Kamen Rider Dragon Knight was really good but got fucked over by 4kids. The final episode didn’t even air on TV. It was just uploaded to 4kids’ website and quietly left to die.
Also worth mentioning: SD Kamen Rider is a comedic anime featuring chibi versions of the Showa Riders up to Black RX. Kamen Rider The First & The Next were two darker movie reboots of the first two seasons of Kamen Rider (the original from 1971 and V3). Kamen Rider G was a movie made as a crossover/preview of Decade, and the main Rider uses wine to transform.
Also, yeah, Kamen Rider is _crazy popular_ in Japan. Like, more popular than Sentai. Power Rangers is to the West as Kamen Rider is to Japan.

Kuuga also introduced Forms. Which was basically new weapons/suit colors. (Black RX did this but only had 2)

Ryuki’s Opening was Sung by Ash Ketchum’s Japanese Voice Actor.
In all honesty Adness Entertainment should’ve aired Dragon Knight on a different channel. Adness Entertainment was the company that owned Dragon Knight but sadly 6 years ago they went bankrupt now Toei owns Dragon Knight completely and I very much hope they don’t trash motorcycles in Kamen Rider now because of that new Law. The Motorcycles and Henshin Belts are literally the heart and soul of the Franchise! Btw I frickin love Wizard and I think it’s rubbish a lot of people hate it!!

Stan Lee and Toei co-produced the Japanese Spider-Man show around the same time as the first Super Sentai, both of which were inspired by Kamen Rider. The Japanese Spider-Man was the first show of this kind to use a giant robot in the plot, and that carried over into all later Super Sentai shows.

@@A_VeryIdea Dude, don't get so salty over a word choice. In fact I'd argue "Morph" is one of the best translations you could use for "Henshin" in these cases. Hell, the Go-Busters even say "It's morphing time."
The truth is, there isn't any disrespect in calling the transformations of sentai or rider "morphing" so you really don't need to worry about it.

Their General story and plot wise.... Are very very different.
Generally... Even though Kamen Rider is technically meant for kids... They do actually have a darker theme within their series.
Deaths, Experimentation, getting eaten by monsters, Viruses and getting that dose of Nebular Gas from Kamen Rider Build has it's own darker tone.
That’s what it seemed like n I really enjoy the dark themes and stories makes it more of an interest to watch!

It took more of a body horror approach to the concept, and the girl Shin was carrying was his dead girlfriend, pregnant with his half-human, half-genetically-engineered-grasshopper-monster child.

Ryuuki, Faiz, Blade, Wizard, Build and Zi-O are probably my favorites. They have some of the best arrangements of stories (especially Zi-O, where the premise is 'No, I won't become the Big Bad who ends the world'.)

Watching these openings brings back memories of my childhood. Rushing home from school just to watch my favorite Kamen Rider series. :))

Kamen Rider W (pronounced Double) is two guys combined into one Rider. Basically, when they transform, one’s conscious transfers to the other and both share the one body while transformed.
Also, Shin, the rider you didn’t see because it was the one that was naked with the end credits, was a full on body horror movie. Instead of a colorful hero, the man transforms into a hideous creature (like Bruce Banner transforming into the Hulk). His final kill in the movie was removing a monster’s head with the spine attached to it.
Also, Kamen Rider 555 is pronounced Faiz (fives). Kamen Rider OOO is pronounce o’s.

Just want to correct you that Faiz is not from fives, but rather the Greek letter "Phi" that is the main motive of Faiz.
17:40 Actually Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue, Kamen Rider ZO and Kamen Rider J are movies in the 90s (early Heisei Era, but they were considered Showa due to their style and the fact that Shotaro Ishinomori, the creator of the series, was still alive back then), so they don't have openings, but movie ending.
Due to BLACK RX (1988-1989), the last Showa Rider, being less popular than BLACK (1987-1988), they ended up doing no series until Kuuga in 2000, what would bring up the Heisei Riders. But during this 11 year gap they tried to revive it with the 3 movies, and that's why they're Showa.

If you guys are looking for a real dark series, my recommendation is Gaim. It may start off light and easy but as it progresses, it gets dark big time. From using biblical references and the suns of humanity, Gaim was a masterpiece with a true bittersweet ending. It was also written by Gen Urobuchi aka the Urobutcher because of how his works are known to be quite dark in general. Series he’s worked on include Madoka a dark magical girls anime, psycho pass and fate zero.
In Kamen Rider Kuuga there is only 1 Rider, those are only his other forms

Kuuga has four forms......Red Mighty, Blue Dragon, Green Pegasus, and Purple Titan but he has the Rising mode where he gets gold armor peices . Then he gets the Ultimate Form.....that form can destroy anything from a rider punch and rider kick

i know for a fact people are going to recommend that if you decide to start watching rider shows to start with the new stuff. personally i don't agree and find the older content more enjoyable. while yes a show from 40+ years ago isnt going to look as good as a show made in 2020, i love see what they were able to do with the smaller budgets and i like being able to pick a random episode and still enjoy a nice 25 minute story without having to watch 35 or more episodes to understand whats happening. if you dont mind the older visuals but still like a good story, i'd recommend kamen rider super-1 or amazon for an older season, or if want something more modern i'd suggest kamen rider ryuki or den-o.
On another note, i'd like to see what you two think of the ultraman opening themes from 1966 to 2021. ultraman openings have the same style of visuals a lot of the time, so its really the songs themselves that are the highlights, personally i like ultraman music the most out of the 'big three' tv toku franchises. the company that makes ultraman is not the same one as rider and sentai, and they are completely fine with people watching their content and uploading it unedited.

1. agito: warrior of light who protects those with super power to become agito from angels of god
2. ryuki: 13 riders fight to kill each other until the only survivor has a wish, very good content, my best sentence is "fight to survive", my favorite rider movie
3. kabuto: the zect rider fights the worm to protect the people and the native
4. kiva: the movie has 2 rider brothers fighting each other for love, the love between humans and vampire fangire
5. OOO(Ozu): a movie about human ambition, the movie is about a guy named eiji who turns into a rider who accompanies a greed named ankh to collect a medal from other greed,
6. Wizard: the witch turns into a rider to destroy the phantom and protect the people from the phantom
7. amazon(heisei): the most horror and haunting cannibal scene, an amazon guy fights with other amazons to protect the innocent and the amazons don't cannibals, the bloodiest and best battle between 2 main riders
8. zio: a guy who travels many places to become king
9. zero one: a movie with conflicting content about the lives of people and humagear

I always enjoy watching people react to Kamen Rider and Super Sentai openings for the first time. I got into Kamen Rider late but I’ve been slowly watching every series/season in release order. The Showa Era ones weren’t available to me when I started out so I had to start with the Heisei Era. So far I’ve watched everything from Kuuga-Fourze. I’m currently on Wizard. Personally, I’ve loved every single season/series with the exception of Hibiki. Couldn’t stand that one. W is obviously my favorite. Kamen Rider is just a fantastic franchise.

If I were to throw my 2 cents in I’d actually recommend to watch the first episode of each new rider “phase”. By that I mean watch the first 2 episodes of kuuga, W, and Zero one cause that’ll give you a general “feel” each rider after them has on some level. Not a totally accurate way but it’ll at least give you a reference point to compare. On another note it’s pronounced O’s like in spaghetti-O’s

Only watching the intros is how someone's preferred becomes Ghost. They are all awesome, some more than other. Kamen Rider is one of the big three in Japan. Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and Super Sentai. Biggest reason western superhero aren't big in Japan, they don't need em, with Crossover movies every summer, new show every year.

You got the pronunciation of 'Heisei' its pronounced close to 'Hey-say' (with a soft or almost silent 'y' in American accent) or 'Heh-seyh'.
The KR series after Decade are called Post Heisei by fans since they are the last series that happpened within the last decade of Heisei and now since the coronation of the Emperor, the seiries starting with Zero-One (01) is called Reiwa (pronounced las reh-wa) Era the same case with SS.
I'm not sure but most movies around the early heisei are heard at the ending like those in Detective Conan annual movies.

BTW, my fave KR series is Den-O. (1) Takeru did a great acting for 7 personalities just in TV series (5 main or recurring personalities, 2 one-time personality) and additional 1 in the movie. (2) It also uses the voices of pro and veteran seiyuus (voice actors) like Otsuka Hochu who voiced Jiraiya of Naruto. (3) Den-O might be the most weakest among the KR history but with the imagin, time traveling, and character development of the main character is gains the top spot on the rankings~. Imagin possessing the main character is the most favorite part of it. Time travel+trains and the consequences of changing the course/happenings in the past like in the case of Sakurai Yuuto 😢. (5) I also got a collection of songs including OP & insert/character songs, videos like PressCon, behind the scenes and cut parts of it. I love it to the point that I even cosplayed U-Ryoutaros form for my school project. The main OP got 7 versions of it, Double-Action got more than 6 version (if you include the movie versions like Gaoh, the 3 strike form, and the Coffee)
Addition: there's more music in Kamen Rider that are related to each Rider's form

Personally my fave opening is Den-O's 2nd OPs because its being sang by the seiyuus (voice actors) of the Imagins (Momotaros (Sword Form/Red), Urataros (Rod Form/Blue), Kintaros (Ax Form/Yellow) and Ryutaros (Gun Form/Purple or Violet)) and it also have a rap by Ryuta at the middle.
Sadly the rap is not included in the TV version...
The good news is that Avex have the MV of the 2nd Den-O OP and its in Full version with some dance steps (included😂😂😂).

If anybody thinks kamen rider is a straight ripoff of super sentai/ power rangers then please remember that kamen rider came before super sentai and both are from the same creator "shotaro ishinomori" and are made by the same company "toei" and power rangers is literally bootleg super sentai by most definitions.
So kamen rider and super sentai are sister shows while power rangers is that one cousin that never gets invited to any family gatherings....... literally.
Definitely, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are sibling franchises within the Tokusatsu genre after all.
