Y'all know there was no autotune in the 70"s right? Ann and Nancy are the real deal. check out their live performance of Stairway to Heaven.
They mentioned it in the video that this was before autotune.
EXACTLY!! You either hit the frigging notes or you didn't!!!!!!!
@@Bozbaby103 I commented before someone pointed that out. It still bears repeating since only that one guy realized and pointed out this was before autotune. They still had tricks like reverb and layering voices.
HOWEVER....I believe I've heard Robert plant say he used some subtle tape speed ups on a few zep tracks to make it sound like he hit higher notes. And of course adding tons of reverb and overdubs are old school tricks to make people sound more in tune.
millennials, auto tune really there's no lab tops in the 70s.
Watching kids ask if it's her real voice actually gave me pain, as a vocalist who basically worshipped this woman's vocals growing up. She's the GOAT. I wish today's "music" was still music every day.
Go listen to more a cappella like Home Free and Voice Play and you will hear great vocals again!
Forreal, her voice is sooo gorgeous
Lol. I know. It hurt me too😂
Yes. Sad that so many young people don't realize how talented and authentic singers from the past actually were such as Ann Wilson.
They are grown ass men; you don’t need to refer to them as kids. It’s such a common thing to do when you get older, but it really looks bad. I know you were hurt by their assumptions but it’s OK;they’re here to learn.
Ann Wilson's vocals aren't just famous, they're historic... iconic. Hell, legendary at this point.
Yes, that's her voice. Best female voice in rock. So fun to see young people recognize good music today 😊❤ Keep it up. Great video.
And Nancy is probably the greatest female guitarist in music history.
Pat Benatar?
@@lanna7917 Pat Benatar isn't even close!
Rock = Ann
Metal = Doro Pesch
This was 1976 DIIIIG THEM 70s
That IS her real voice---people actually had talent then--no autotune BS--actual talent. She had a five octave singing range.
Not to mention the POWER she had! One of the HEAVIEST WEIGHTS of ALL TIME!
I think people are misunderstanding their comments. They were just discussing if it was a live recording or a studio recording.
You mean "HAS" a 5 octave range my friend :-).
The 80s band is the Go Gos
She was INTENSE!
That's her voice guys. Watch her sing stairway to heaven for led zeppelin. Brilliant
Facts. Brilliant.
There wasn’t music videos back then fellas. Lol.
There are a lot of Led Zeppelin covers by Heart on CZcams. One of my favorites is their cover of "Battle Of Evermore".🤘
Better yet, go to Wolfgang’s Music and listen to them in concert from 1978, they could rock with anyone.
See them honor Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy center. Stairway to heaven.
These sisters are probably the best female artists of all time, seeing as Anne has one of the most amazing vocal capacities and they can both play instruments amazingly, they're just downright haunting
I saw Heart in concert almost 3 years ago. She is almost 73 years old and her voice is still crazy good! Nancy is one hell of a guitar player.
Got news for you guys. That’s exactly how they sounded. I saw Heart several times live and they are absolutely incredible. No autotune needed at all!
Ann is one of the rare singers who sounds better live.
then that's amazing because I always thought it was some form of autotune as well. So that's pretty talented, guess that's why they were so huge at one time, I love them.
This is a lip synced performance. It's the album version exactly, you cannot duplicate the exact performance live. They are great live performers. Most performances on TV shows were required to be lip synced. Prince was someone who hated this, so when he had to lip sync for shows like American bandstand he made it obvious.
Then why was it dubbed over?
@@kevineden4028 It's true that shows like "American Bandstand" required the artist to lip synch, but this was because they were aware of what most live music sounded like and weren't going to chance it since making the shows was costly.
This is why us old people think that music is not near as good now as it was in the seventies and eighties. There was no auto-tune you had to be able to sing. Heart is one of the best. If you want to hear another perfect voice listen to any Karen Carpenter songs. She sings like an angel.
Who's old?
Don’t forget late 60s too.
Amen!
Exactly 💯
There was the Talkbox Herbie Hancock used it and Roger Trautman from Zapp in the 70s & thru
nobody can outsing Ann Wilson. best voice in rock.
70s had best vocals, guitars, lyrics, performers 🔥💖👍👏
lyrics were serious and meaningful, perfect for those crazy times.
Ann Wilson is recognized as one of the best female vocalists of all time. Her vocal range still astounds me to this day. Sorry you boys missed out on some of the best music ever recorded from the 60's to 90's but at least you're getting a taste of what we heard everyday on the radio. Love your reactions.
You’ve got to know we Boomers love that you dig our music. We feel so fortunate to have grown up with such diverse and amazingly talented musicians and the Wilson sisters were totally unique and out there!
Agree one million percent!
Music today is dead, Talent has vanished, Appreciation...well, there is none. HEART is one of the GOATS. The LADIES could hold their own with the best of them!!! Loved, Love HEART.
🎼 ..”everyday on the radio”..
The 70s bands are hard to beat. They did their own songwriting, coming up with the rifts and their voices were their own voices. Raw talent! No dubbing, no auto tune, no nothing.
Best era for rock, no doubt.
Im 34 y/o and can almost certainly say that 70's was the best, followed closely by the 80's, then 60's, then 90s..... then there is everything else ; )
The greatest decade of music truly was the 1970s.I lived these years in teenager bliss, lol.Parties, music and girls....gorgeous girls. Now I am old...lament,lament all my youth has been spent.
@@franksullivan1873 i know. I went to a lot of concerts. That’s where my time was spent. I’ve seen over 100 concerts. I still see them, but with the old guys.
Since I was born in 74 I love the 90s the best, closely followed by the 70s. Great, great bands from both eras. I do have to say, there WAS what's called "Pitch Correction" (Auto Tune) in the 70s. The difference? They just didn't use it! As a matter of fact it wasn't till Cher's song "Believe" in 97/98 that it was heavily used and became known as the "Cher effect" in the industry. Madonna and many others copied the sound. But they used it as an effect on the vocal...now it is used more (disingenuously?...Idk) for the purpose it was made...pitch correction
Best female band of all time! Every era... still today! Ann's vocals are untouchable. I hope the Sisters make up and perform together again.
They have performed together since -that infamous set-to between relatives. They did a 2019 Heart tour. And they are also attending to their own solo careers. it seems Ann has been much more active in this and has just recently released new music.
@@brianduffy1338 I think since then they have had a falling out again.
I loved Heart back in the 70's! Those sisters had amazing voices and could rock! NO AUTO TUNE like they have now!
No computers, no auto tune, no pyrotechnics. Just pure talent.
Lol it’s cute you believe that
@@coreyrees840 it’s true though.
Of course it's true, there was no autotune bs when this vid was made.
It's still a studio recording overlayed over a live track.
Ok let me put this to rest, whatever you think of this 'live' version. Here's some concert live footage of Heart. And you can clearly see she needs no autotune, and there was none anyways.
If you take out the crowd noise and clean it up, well it sounds like this vid.
czcams.com/video/2QkmmDvkLSI/video.html
Her voice is exactly like that live!!! She's considered in the very, very top of all time women vocalists. Even today in her 60s, she's better than everyone else.
She’s actually 72 now and still can blow the doors off with her powerhouse voice.
@@MLM1011 noooooooooooo 72????????
@@sooparticular Yes, 72, and she makes it look and sound damn good.
@@MLM1011 i remember when this came out I was a kid...wow greetings from nyc!
Yep! I finally got to see them live a few years ago and Ann Wilson has INSANE vocals!
This is one of those songs that you cannot be mad when you hear it. You will jam out!
It is her real voice! She was exceptional, still can sing the hell out of a song❤
Dudes, this is Anne Wilson, probably the best female rock singer ever! Her sister Nancy is on the guitar and backing vocals! Anne really has this voice live! Heart just plain rocks! Thank you for the reaction it brings back awesome memories! Plenty of Heart to react to and what a banger to start out with!
Oh the memories! Welcome to the good ole days… pure talent, no auto tune bs… what you heard is a true gift 🎶🎵
Also, they did not have auto-tune!!
Absolutely. Love watching these guys react to classics.
I love it when youngins react to the video "All I want to do is make love to you" they should do that!
Nancy really has a great voice too.
Guys, this woman sincerely sings like this. She's won tons of awards for that voice. It's really her singing live. Her sister plays the guitar and also sings really well.
Ikr, sad bit is the industry gave her crap about her weight.
@@oakmaiden2133 Yeah, why is it that the men never get slammed about that? Methinks some industry wonk was jealous of her ability and tried to deflect.
30 years later, auto tune.
The video is lip synch, as was the norm, but there is plenty of classic live footage to back it up.
@@kentwood9821 Nope, it wasn't lip sync.
Yes. That is her voice! No autotune back then. Just raw talent!
Artists in the 70’s had to know how to sing. No autotune or computer tricks. Just pure talent. That’s why we older folks who grew up in that era, find it so difficult to understand where the good music went. There’s a reason the younger generation is becoming aware of our era. It was pure music. Ann Wilson is a legend and her voice is magic. Check out Heart’s live version of Stairway to Heaven.
Before Heart was formed, Ann and Nancy used to play in small bars, etc. In 1974 I was working as a dishwasher at a bar in Kennewick Washington where they were performing. We were completely snowed in without realizing how hard it was snowing outside. So we drank beer, played cards, and told ghost stories until the snow plows allowed us to get out in the morning. Nicest pair of people I've ever met.
Wow! So lucky!! I saw them and Stevie Nicks for my second concert ever in Baltimore MD!! Thanks for sharing!
My father used to book bands when he was alive. Booked Joe Cocker (who pissed himself on stage), Bryan Adam's, fired Motley Crew and tossed them out of their hotel room after calling the owner of the hotel a 'greasy greek', and his friend from Edmonton fired Heart....
Then Heart came out with this album....
His buddy hung the LP up on the wall and wrote in marker "I fired this band". Who would've known...
Neat story. I bet that was fun! Good times.
❤️💜💚
Cool story. I have family in kennewick, pasco, yakima and federal way
@@markdavis7479 In 74 there was still a sign on the bridge between Pasco and Richland that stated that blacks must be out of Richland by 10PM.
Pure vocals.. real ... no auto tune. Ann Wilson is the Queen of Rock and Roll and her sister plays a mean guitar. They play multiple instruments. Unreal ladies forever.
This is what happens when internet and smart phones don't take up all your time.
I hope you all take the time to listen to more of Heart. Magic Man and Alone are AWESOME!! Their voices are great and Nancy is a phenominal guitarist!
I’ve seen Heart concerts and yes, they’re the real deal! True talent! The whole band is amazing.
Gentlemen, I've seen Heart in concert perhaps half a dozen times. They really ARE that good live. Truly. Their Kennedy Center live performance of Stairway to Heaven to honor Led Zeppelin is unparalleled.
Came here to say this. The standing O from Plant and Page themselves. I never thought anyone could do Plant's vocals like that. She. Was. Transcendent.
It was unbelievable!
I too saw Heart 5 times! Loved every moment!! ❤😁
This song was about the lies created about Ann & Nancy to boost interest in the band, you know, the $ making machine side of Rock & Roll.
That tribute performance was out of this world amazing! Watching Led Zeppelin's reaction to it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!
*PAT BENATAR is a badass rocker with incredible vocals! You will love "Heartbreaker"*
I came here to suggest Pat Benatar. Another fabulous rock vocalist with so many great songs.
I was 10 yrs old in 1978 and living in a small town in Alaska. Music was a big part of my life back then and when this group came to our attention, my older sisters and I were so impressed with Heart. Great band fronted by two women and from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle). My favorites are Love Alive and Dog and Butterfly.
Heart started in the 70s. My very first Rock concert as a teen! And yes that is her amazing voice! (Autotune didn’t exist!)
this ain't auto tune...she's one of the best rock singers ever
Ann Wilson's voice is pure talent. She is an INCREDIBLE vocalist.
From my area!.... Heart is an American rock band formed in 1973 in Seattle, Washington. I was 10 when they hit airways. They came out bangin then and nothing has changed! I just turn 61 on Thursday, Ann and Nancy Wilson were on the Kelly Clarkson show because Kelly is a fan and that was her wish for her birthday, to meet the ladies of Heart! It you look here on You Tube "Heart on Kelly Clarkson show" , you will be amazed that all these years, they still sound exactly the same! Now we all aged a little but the Ann and Nancy still have that special gift........ TALENT!
I love you guys. This was the music I grew up with, and it’s so much fun to watch and listen to you as you appreciate it. Rock on, gentlemen.
Fellas, autotune wasn't a thing yet when this song came out. Music videos weren't even a thing! This is actually how these 70s singers really sounded. This is a live recording of a concert that you're watching. Literally these sounds came out of that woman's face. I know it's hard to believe, but there you have it- because there was no autotune or post-processing, singers mostly didn't dance or do choreography WHILE singing in rock and pop the way we see it today. They put all of that energy and concentration into developing vocal discipline.
The video is live-ish (no crowd), but it's the studio vocals. Watch the video and it's pretty obvious.
@@bohemianhhstill no autotune used...
@@oldmanyellingatclouds I never said there was.
No autotune!!! Both sisters have epic voices.
She has an echo/reverb on her recorded vocals but no autotune at all. Amazing sound.
Guys, guys - That is ANN WILSON!! THE FEMALE VOICE OF ROCK!! And her sister, Nancy - AMAZING GUITAR/BASS PLAYER! That is a LIVE PERFORMANCE!!!! No auto-tune, no tech manipulations - just INSANE PURE TALENT!! Look up the Lincoln Center Honors to Led Zeplin featuring Heart's tribute - YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MINDS!!
Ann is the best!! “Crazy On You” is my favorite! She still sounds amazing…and no auto tune!!!!🤘🏻💜💫
I love the song Alone. She hits some mighty righteous notes on that one.
Magic man is amazing as well.
There is a live version of Crazy On You floating around on CZcams, dates from '77 IIRC. Nancy just goes ballistic on the intro, diverts into some flamenco-based mayhem.
Check out their live Stairway to Heaven “ Annie is incredible “
I just saw these ladies at age 65 and 69 and that’s STILL her voice and it will give you chills. ❤
💯 correct ,saw them as well
She did stairway to heaven cover to honor Robert plant, and is still sounding amazing.
So true ... Ann WIlson's voice has remained remarkably unchanged with time. She still killing it.
I saw Heart in concert three times back in the day, and their voices are that amazing live.
Love watching you guys! Your reactions are awesome! I’m a 62 year old grandma and I grew up with this music, great to see you all taking it in!
Hey guys, this is Ann Wilson's real singing voice. No autotune, just raw talent. Both her and her sister Nancy. They have a whole catalog of great music for you all to listen to and enjoy. Love your reactions and your channel.

Absolutely
I’ll have to check that out! I grew up on Heart and brought my own kids up on them as well ❤️. They’re the best!
Their performance even made Robert Plant cry and he hates that song now.
AMEN
Heart IS one of the best bands period. They still are. Listen to Jupiters Daughter, one of the best albums they've released. Ann just released a solo album this past week with Tripsitter.
It's a great song to rock out to still. Even after all these years
Yall are not the only ones wanting more of those women....women want more of those women. Heart was one of a kind❤ we definitely want more women rockers
In this case, Barracuda is a derogatory term for certain record executives. In order to market Heart's songs, some of these types tried to start a rumor that Anne and Nancy were not only sisters but they were also lovers. There for the lyric " If the real thing don't do the trick, you'd better think up something quick " You might also like to react to Allannah Myles "Black Velvet" I think you'll really like it
Oh yes they will. I'm so glad you said it. About A. Miles. :)
It wasn't the execs. It was the reporters/tabloids. The reporters were always upset that the girls wouldn't really talk to them or want to do interviews. So they would create their own content. Well, the sisters obviously won that battle.
Barracudas were also a model of muscle car in the 60s and 70s. I used to think that was the reference but I like the record executive one better. Cheers🎉
Silly silly fools
Yes Black Velvet 🖤
Straight up her real voice. One of the greatest voices in Rock and Roll history
That's her real voice. They sounded great live. Write their own music and songs and played most instruments. They were amazing!
You guys are killing me..is her voice real?! 😂
It's not only real...
it's BADASS!!!!
This Woman has got pipes for days!!

Except on the late night variety shows where they lip synced. They didn't allow for live on the shows. For instance, house of the rising sun by the animals. The best video for that one is from one of the variety shows and they lip sync.
But no post treatments for voices even then.
That's true, but this video specifically has the studio audio and video from a live performance for some reason
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful voices of all time, male or female, you really should check Heart out live, they were utterly phenomenal.
Also, if you want a female artist, check out Lita Ford.
Agreed. I also love Terri Nunn (Berlin), Pat Benatar, and Stevie Nicks
I saw Heart live in Milwaukee WI when they were the lead act for Jefferson Airplane/Starship. See "Crazy On You" and watch the singer Ann's sister Nancy play the guitar intro. Also "Stairway to Heaven" when Ann sang at Led Zeppelin's induction into the rock & roll hall of fame. "Dreamboat Annie" for a slow masterpiece.
Yes! LIVE. I've seen then 4 times- she was THAT good! They all were.
You gotta check out the live versions of "crazy on you" and "magic man". Both Ann and Nancy are absolutely PHENOMENAL
Yes to both of those songs! I saw them live from the front row and Ann’s voice is for real. By the time they closed the show with “Crazy on You” the entire arena had been whipped into a blissful frenzy. The excitement was palpable. Btw, Nancy plays rhythm guitar while Roger Fisher is on lead. IMO Ann is best rock singer of all time.
I agree that those are my 2 favorite Heart songs.
Two of my all time favs!!!!
You can’t go wrong with either of those tracks.
Magic man is my favorite female voice.
Not only did Anne Wilson sound this good in 1976, but she sounded great in 2016 when I last saw them live in concert. Check out Magic Man, Crazy on You, Straight On, These Dreams, Alone, Llittle Queen or pretty much anything they made. Great choice of song, nice reaction fellas. If you want more women I suggest Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters and Linda Ronstadt. If you go with Teena Marie you should do her Soul Train video of Ooh LA LA LA.

Almost as old as Plant, I remember how terribly men talked about the band Heart, back in the '70s! Men I thought were nice guys would spew awful things, just at the thought of women in rock music! they couldn't, wouldn't wrap their minds around it! When faced with the talent of these sisters, some just made up lies! Nice to see the group of young men above just taking it for granted that yeah, those were women singing and playing that song! Progress, step by step! One step forward, two steps back? They loved the song!
Worked the Heart concert in northern Michigan years ago which they sounded just like the video. It was an awesome experience. Ann and Nancy are the best! Worth seeing in concert.
I saw Ann Wilson in concert last June and, at 73 years old, she can still hit some of those notes clear as a bell. Believe dat!!

These ladies were huge in a male dominated industry and became rock and roll icons, they are highly respected by legions of fans worldwide, a lot of the female singers of today were inspired by them, I've seen them a few times and they always put on a great show. There's an older video of them in the late 70's playing in front of 300,000 fans at the California Jam and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame some years back.
Their live tribute version of Stairway to Heaven was so powerful it made the original band cry. (I think it’s better than the original). Extraordinarily talented women.

Thats incredible I gotta check that out. I love Heart (Wilson sisters) and Stevie Nicks but congrats and 100% deserved long overdue induction to Rock and Roll HOF. Congrats Pat Benatar!! Pats resume is so deep. Pat Benatar had: HEARTBREAKER, HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT, LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD, WE BELONG, INVINCIBLE. YOU BETTER RUN (2nd song ever played on MTV btw), and TREAT ME RIGHT. I would say only Heart and Stevie Nicks can claim as many iconic hits. Heart had Crazy on you, Alone, Barricuda, Magic Man. Freddy Mercury, these Women, and all the other AWESOME voices of the past need to be remembered.
Our music from the 80s was AMAZING!!! I was in high school !! It rocked the world!!!
Hearing Ann Wilson sing live was --- how to I explain this ---- one of those moments when you literally stop moving around, stop dancing, stop jumping around because you can't believe the voice you hear is bouncing off of every wall, every speaker, every person around you and echoing right into the core of your soul. That's the best way I can explain it and it was the sensation I felt at the 2nd Heart concert I was at. In the 25 years that I saw concerts - from Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado to Winterland in San Francisco to Oakland Coliseum to McNichols Arena, Denver to the Hollywood Bowl, there are only 4 times that I remember that feeling. Ann Wilson was singing in two of them. Keep watching every video you can find of them guys. Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson and Heart were, are and will always be legends. Always.
Heart. Magic man!!! One of the best songs ever made!!
That is her voice. Live concert, after live concert will attest to that. She's amazing.
These women were the goat SWV. Sisters with voices! No computers, no effects, just guitars and their voice!
Ann is the best female voice on the planet - she still sounds THAT GREAT - My first album was Dreamboat Annie when I was a teen in the 70's - you've probably had a lot of comments by now but she is truly the most prolific female voice in rock!
I'll put Elizabeth Hale and Pat Benetar right up there with her.
I totally agree.
Without question the best concert I ever attended. And yes, that’s really what they sounded like. We didn’t have auto tune in the 70’s.
My generation grew up with some of the best music. I saw them in concert. Truly amazing.

Yes, that is her voice live. Amazing. If you want to hear what she sounds like now watch the Led Zeplin tribute at the Kennedy Center. She sings Stairway to Heaven. It's so good.
I’ve heard her sing it live twice during 2 of her Ann Wilson of Heart Thing concerts a few years ago. She’s just incredible!
The surviving members of Led Zeppelin were in the audience at the Kennedy Center. Their drummer's son, Jason Bonham, played with Heart. Zeppelin was moved to tears.

I highly recommend you check out the Bangles' "Hazy Shades of Winter," and "Call Me" by Blondie. Also, a bit of trivia for you: Blondie (Debbie Harry is the lead singer) had to first chart-topping rap song called "Rapture." This happened right before the Sugar Hill Gang hit with "Rapper's Delight" around 1979 or 1980. Keep checking out 70s and 80s music. You can't go wrong!
Fab five Freddy
It's live. It's her real voice. They actually had talent back in the day. Played instruments, sung without auto-tune. Ann's voice is still that amazing. Check out the live performance of Crazy On You and Stairway To Heaven.
She does sound the same live as she did in the studio, but that is not the live recording. You can see from the video where the vocals do not quite match what we see in the video (a few times she moves the microphone away from her mouth "early" but the sound continues). They took a video from a real live performance and put the studio audio on top of it
I saw this band twice. The first time was the Boston Gardens in 1978 or 1979. The group sounds as good live as on the album, and the sisters were beautiful. My buddy had a ticket connection so we were front row and backstage at a few Aerosmith concerts. That was a long time ago boys.
Pure talent, no tricks, Ann and Nancy Wilson rock and roll royalty!
The 70’s had the best music ever!!! Live music with no auto tune…, just great voices and great music!
No autotune boys, just talent
@TimeSentinel And now we can't tell the difference between real talent and autotune.
@@theprousteffect9717 Anyone with half a brain can see who overused autotune and doesnt.
They sound that good live...she's the best female rock voice...
