On May 3rd, IAIS #6988 departs Newton, IA with a freight train, making its first movement on the main this season. Recorded in 4K at 60 FPS Camera: Panasonic HC-X1000
Lovely footage! My favorite shot was when she passed the old UP diamond. Always great to see one of the Qian Jins at work. Hopefully 7081 can join her sister sometime in the future.
I suppose American and Chinese locomotives share the same common ancestry. Post WW2 America locomotives, such as the wartime S160s' were sent everywhere, including Nationalist China.
The short story: Because they could, and the owners of the RR are massive railfans. Have you not seen how clean this entire shortline is? IAIS is a road full of people who care, who are not afraid to invest in their infrastructure.
fallingup90 thank you! Great video btw. It also seemed to be going slower this year when i saw her last year in mitchellville. I’m putting together a chase list looks like you got two of my spots I was eyeing for when I chase her again.
@@chendersonrailproductions704 They were making a bunch of stops inspecting the bearings. Further east they did open the QJ up, so it should be at the normal speed when the excursion trains start up again
fallingup90 thank you for the info. If I can ask do you think it would possible at regular speed to catch them leaving neuton, go to Kellogg and beat them to the depot in grinnell.
Boo! 6988's new style looks ugly and failure. I'd stick with the original Chinese version! However, the video is still great! We need 7081 to run again! I hope that they don't Americanize QJ7081!
As a Chinese railfan, I would like to thank you for your hard work which keeps her alive.
I am gonna get hate by saying this QJ looks sharper than Up 844. Had to say it. Let the hate begin.
Unless 844 were to go back to the two-tone scheme. That is a personal favorite, but I would agree otherwise.

It was mentioned 7081 passed a recent boiler inspection, but is unlikely to return to excursion service for the time being.
I presume the building at 05:20 was a depot/station at one time. Are there any photographs of it in use during the steam era?
Very nicely done! Enjoyed it. Fine engine indeed.
It is a unique locomotive with that American style
Excellent video, well done!
Thanks!
The livery just looks fine to me, but a steamer actually pulling freight? In modern times?
Why can't they do that more often?
Mostly cost.
If steam were better than diesel then diesel would have never caught on.
Especially without “dynamic braking”
Nice work
Thanks!
Is that the original whistle sounds like 611
Wow! Back in 2010 the locomotive looked much more Chinese. It honestly looks like an american locomotive in a Chinese body.
I suppose American and Chinese locomotives share the same common ancestry. Post WW2 America locomotives, such as the wartime S160s' were sent everywhere, including Nationalist China.
I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I’ve heard that russia got American drawings and then sent them to the Chinese
I'd rather see these engines pulling freight instead of the modern ones need to bring these back better than the diesel engines
Steam is not as cheap to run or as efficient. Although I totally agree with you a hard working steam locomotive is a wonderful sight.
I guess I'd like to know the story behind a railroad buying steam motive power in the 2000s timeframe. It's awesome but - how did it happen and why?

Cool, shoulda coupled it up to that train of windmill blades in the beginning. 😉
Yeah. You don't see that very often.
If i can ask where is that shot at, at 4:20

It could, but unlikely at the moment

We'll more than likely have 7081 running next year. She's currently undergoing a 5 year flue inspection.

very nice video. new mutual friend here. please stay connected.
I dont really like this american appearance. I like the original chineese version better.
I agree! 7081 looks a lot better because they didn't Americanize her! That's why I am not a big fan of 6988's American version

@Andy Proper No! There are six many QJs preserved in China! One in Germany!
