WMD - How I Play Eurorack Modular Synths Live 01- Nasty Nachos

  • Alex at WMD performs quite a bit under the name Nasty Nachos here in Denver as well as all over the world using his eurorack modular synthesizer. In his preparation for an upcoming set and continuing to use a patch over multiple performances, he found it a good time to make a sort of "how I play live" video. We will be releasing more of these down the line with more videos from Alex, as well as the other employees here at WMD that play these instruments in a live setting.
    In this video, Alex goes through his current patch, how he is using each module and what may be triggering inspiration and keeping the party going live in real time. Unlike many of our other videos, this is not a patch from scratch, however, more of a "why my patch is this way at this time" video.

    Dude, your modular vidz are the best on YT right now. You're a real artist, making real, good music, you share your tips and are extra clear about how everything works together, and you're not even trying to sell us WMD stuff.
    Please make more, I beg you.

    Living the dream, thanks for sharing. So many moments of genius here and looks like fun. I think live modular sets should include top down video views like this, it just brings so much authenticity to proceedings. Pls keep us in the loop on any set breakthroughs going forward. Cheers.

    Sooo helpful to see you break down the ingredients of your rig and how you mix them together to make a feast. I’d love to see more demonstrations like this one. Thank you!

    What a superfun setup, and a very good walkthrough of what you might do live. Thanks!

    Nicely done. There is definitely an art to working with any rig in a live situation.

    Love it. Really excited to get this kind of stuff. It inspires me to practice my live sets and keep getting out and doing shows.
    I'm amused that you went with outboard effects for filter->distortion on your 2nd send next to a Chronoblob. That's where my TRSHMSTR is at the moment. but 12HP is 12HP.

    • @WMDevices
      @WMDevices  Před 4 lety +1

      Hahaha, I did have that thought... I really like having my chronoblob in the case as I hardly touch delay parameters so I can put it in a place where it just gets covered with cables and is always on the aux. I love synth voices so much that I try and pack the case with voices and then I do lots of FX outboard with pedals... plus I just love pedals in general.
      The combo is also much different than the TRSHMSTR as I can do the sample rate stuff with the GC and it freaks out with the filter sweeps from Protostar. The Protostar also has a envelope follower which isn't something that I own in Eurorack, although I could probably figure that out somehow.
      Wanna know the real funny part? For the performance last night I ended up leaving the Protostar and GC at the shop... on the table so I couldn't even use this idea in the set! Oh well, switching it up due to your own personal 'limitations' is fun right?
      So glad you dig the video and are getting out there!

      See now you've got me thinking of the twrex! My case is already totally very over full!
      My one rule for live shows is to only take one case. It means I need to really pack that case with the good stuff, thankfully I enjoy the grit of the noise engineering oscillators so I can pack a lot in. My dixie2+ufold+belgrad voice is an expception. Because it's exceptional.
      I just really need that Crater and I'll have almost finished my drum line. Still hoping you mash the ideas of the crater and crucible together into a snare drum so I can keep my fracture on little incidental pops duties.

    This is awesome! I'm still in the early building stages of my modular journey, so I'm always looking at how people play live to learn what I can. Thanks for sharing! One totally unrelated question, when could we see those black arpitechts out in the real world? I'm leaning heavily towards getting one, and I'd love to be able to get the black panel version soon!

    Sick. How’d you get that last vowelly sound at the very end?

    • @WMDevices
      @WMDevices  Před 4 lety

      That's the Synchrodyne and Expand. When clocking the filter with the PLL from both modules, you can get some Formant-y growly vowel sounds!
