idk who is saying that magnacut isn't going to hold up but that is wild. magnacut is by far one of the toughest knife steels by far the toughest I've seen in the bali hobby not to add is is almost fully corrosion resistant. hands down magnacut is the most balanced super steel
if they mean chipping, that's a lot more related to the angle of the secondary bevel and the HRC and the thickness behind the edge than the material it's made out of too.
@@PuffingtonBeartru but it is still brittler, and Grant even wanted to go down to 17 degrees which is stupid for a bali
@tiny9720 are you sure grant actually wanted to do 17 degrees? he put up a poll on his insta and the people got to choose between 3 different angles
@@whiffysiamang3674 "considering" would have been a better word choice on my part
@@whiffysiamang3674i do believe in that poll he said that 17 was his favorite but i could be wrong
Magnacut is the ideal steel for an EDC bali, the only things that would "hold up" better would be toughness-oriented super steels like CruWear or 3V, but those are totally overkill and lose edge retention as a tradeoff. If I could have gotten any of my balis in Magnacut, I would have, no questions
and the almost lc200n levels of corrosion resistance
feel like theres theres two 2 side characters of this channel, our hero ted flips, and the antagonist, the mailroom
Fuck the mailroom
12:34 magnacut is one of the best balanced steels there is so not sure where they're coming from on that but it could all depend on the heat treatment for how hard it's going to be but it is a great all-around steel and one of the most sought after steels in knives that are not balisongs.
I agree 100% and magnacut optimal heat treat being 62-64 hrc I doubt he is overcooking his magnacut
@@BxndxgeKnives 💯💯 My Gaboons eat up cardboard, magnacut is like THE edc steel of choice right now. It was honestly a selling point for me on the gaboon and Xyphoid. Nice variant from all the s35vn out which is quality but standard in balisongs it seems.
we run them righ at 62 to maximise toughness to performance@@BxndxgeKnives
@@JonsBalisongBlunders nothing wrong with s35vn but yeah magnacut from a toughness and almost Impervious to rust/corrosion makes it perfect for a bali, since that balis are the most likely to be dropped knife
9:14 JUMP SCARE 🤣
Boo
@@BladeBias 😱 you and Will gotta stop catchin me off guard
To me, the gaboon feels like a sandwich serif, but quiet. I really enjoy the smaller, thinner balis, like these and the xolo.
I got my gabby with the g2 pattern which gives it a lot of grip
I think Grant likes snakes, Medusa, gaboob, hognose (empress?)
Somehow I never noticed this...
@@TheBalisongBear I think you like bears
lol its a bit of a theme
I keep no weights in the handles of my Gaboon and it feels wonderful. I still need to play with the weights but I didn't feel a need to bust with it at all because it is in my preferences. Looking forward to your week with video even though I'm sure you're not going to change your mind much since it sounds like it's similar to the hognose to you
Ehhh, first 24 hours have been swaying me, we'll see how the rest of the week goes
I flip my gaboon with no weights and barrel spacers. It weighs 3.19 oz and I think it's my favorite balisong to flip.
It's a neat design, and I'm exceedingly happy to see more makers exploring the sub-3.5oz space.
I definitely think the flipping experience suffers from the combination of short and skinny handles. I just don't really like handles that get so thin at the pivots, and combined with how short the Gaboon is, it really feels like there isn't enough to hold onto.
Also, I really dislike these tang designs where the washers are flush with the radius of the tang. It causes oil to leak out onto the sides of the blade/handles, resulting in both a huge mess and needing to re-oil more often.
Still a great design, and pretty excellent value for money. Mine came really well-tuned and with a boatload of spare hardware (which I know firsthand is actually not cheap to provide, lol). Would recommend for anyone who is curious about lighter balis.
On Fellowship's website, when you buy the Gaboon, you can opt for an unsharpened, decently sharp, or razor sharp blade. I bought a Gaboon with a razor sharp blade, and it is SHARP.
Guys I think BladeBias is CamaroEE guy, you can see it at 9:43 !!! /s
Who
Love my Gaboons, the spectral blue is such a great finish. It has such a grippy feel.
Did you see the Invar Gaboon?? I’m really tempted to get one
@@_Nathan- I did! Same here 😏
@@JonsBalisongBlunders I wouldn’t complain if you grabbed one to review 😉 😉
@@_Nathan- well I originally wasn't planning on it but I went ahead and grabbed a pair of the handles since he is just put up some handles only. Damn it all to hell 😂
@@JonsBalisongBlunders haha didn’t expect that! Can’t wait to see how you like them
What i gotta say is that the gaboon is definitely one of the best edc balisongs imo, all it would need its maybe like a clip system like the kraken anchor
Bro ted has every balisong ever
Actually true I never realized how large his collection really is
😂
That ghost ano he did is so clean
Grants ano jobs are top tier
slayed🐍
i want this so bad
Yo i cant wait for the video on the other one you got, super interesting knife, and i cant wait
Based metroid enjoyer, I caught the Dread in a previous video. Good stuff mate
the maxace shi had a weight system like it
3:00 How can you get the blade dull/ unsharpened? Do you need to do that yourself or can you buy it like that
It's an option
Please do a Jk designs embargo video
9:30 Bro called us chat
Banks brain rot
Are you gonna try the invar gaboon?
No plans currently
balde bias
Early❤
how the hell
how did you do the EXACT thing will did
startled me so bad >:( reported for jumpscare >:(
Lol. Content creators are nice and nutty cuz video. Flippers who actually pay premium get handle play and tap. These guys are getting sloppy and lazy. 750 bucks for a medusa now and it's sloppy as f
Fellowship did not send me this product, this was sent to me from Ted's personal collection, who is not a content creator
lot of magnacut fans in the comments🤔
its a good steel but its silly on a bali
unless youre EDC'ing it and NOT flipping it, its gonna chip
a bali is somethin that gets dropped a bunch regardless of skill lvl
i know a few ppl who chipped their gaboons just dropping it on carpet or grass (which is Not ideal)
the chiping isn't due to the magnacut its the blade geometry. imo magnacut is probably the best choice for any bali as it is the toughest stainless (almost stain proof) steel
lol
You realize magnacut is quite comparable to S35vn right? Often times considerer superior across the board...
Who is chipping their Gaboons on grass or carpet? EDC tasks are going to be just as hard on the blade as flipping. Grant has mentioned on IG previously they were aiming for 59-60 HRC to maximize toughness. I'd be shocked if someone chipped their blade on grass or carpet but I'd bet Grant would work with them to resolve that if they reached out.
@@JonsBalisongBlunders i don't know who is comparing Magnacut to s35vn but it's not, maybe at 59hrc if we are speaking about edge retention but that's about it. there are so many different factors that make up any blade. but I don't who chipped any Bali in the grass ( sounds like a baited comment ) and I'm not speaking to the Gaboon specifically. I loved the Gaboon its probably my favorite knife from fellowship. but my comment was more towards steel isn't going to chip because of the steel but rather the geometry. yes, there are steels more prone to chipping. the stitch doesn't have the best geo for toughness but that's not what makes the knife good.
@@BxndxgeKnives I just mean that s35vn is also pretty well balanced steel when talking about toughness, hardness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. Magnacut for sure blows it out of the water especially in regards to corrosion resistance but wonderfully balanced all around. And probably a bait comment, I'm here to bite 🎣😂
