Police did not shock us Dutch people, de stupidness of the protesters is what shocks us Dutchies. Most of the protesters aren't even Dutch. The University has 10000 people working or studying there. So this is maybe max 5% of the whole university populus, it's not representing the whole university.
The university of Amsterdam has over 40,000 students and about 6000 employees. This was maybe 1 or 2%.

A noteworthy thing was that a large portion of these students were foreign students and foreign activists who were not students at all. They stopped the regular Dutch students from following tuition. I am so glad that the new government is going to call a halt to, are at least restrict the number of foreign students eligible to study at our Universities.

The difference, in (Middle-) Eastern countries you mostly cannot protest against your government ( wont last long) In the west you have that right, but there are clear limits, there no violence, destructions , threathening people with other opinions, antisemitism, no endless demanding, yelling, threatening etc. After certain time you have to break up, listen to police because there cant be endless occupying protests, life goes on, the mayority rules, the government , mayor, police etc. determining when its enough. You can make your point, but you cannot force it on the majority who governs.

Very biased reporter. It would be worth mentioning that the police stepped in after these protesters smashed the university furniture, damaged monumental buildings and canal streets, throwing chemicals at police officers, uni staff had to flee the building. Also, these protesters are not just students, many of them are muslim immigrants, members of terrorist organisations even, who have no link to the univ whatsoever. Apart from that, people seem to forget that these protesters dont rule the country, we dont have to do as they say. The civilized majority here supports the police, we are grateful they protect us and our cities.

I don't understand why the people that are living in other countries do not follow the rules, society, government, etc. If the country they choose to live in. I am a foreign woman living in UK and I have never asked for more than I deserved not to say it to respect to change UK rules, society, education, religion, etc. To my own believes or background. I have to accept, up to certain pinto, all the rules of the land that I have chosen to live, BUT NEVER IMPOSE OR DEMAND things from my mother land such as ideas, way of I live in my country, my culture, my own political views from my own country, my religion, etc. I would never do that for the simple reason that it was me to take the decision to live aboard for what ever reasons.
